of the distance and the cost. Well, it is Singapore which is a country located to the southeast of Vietnam and has
acquired a reputation for its fresh air and beautiful scenery. I would vacation in there with some close friends
probably for a week during Autumn as it is the best time when the weather is pleasantly cool. Singapore is one of
the most fascinating tourist destinations for several reasons.
For one, the landscapes of Singapore cover remarkable natural scenery, majestic gardens, soothing
beachsides, and even stunning skylines that will definitely impress tourists. On top of that, the public transport
system in Singapore are extremely reliable. People may not have to spend hours waiting for buses or trains, and
the staff were very helpful. Last but not least, you can also meet all kinds of people there as it is a melting pot of
hundreds of different communities, cultures and languages, so it is a great chance to practice my English-
speaking skills with the local people and also other tourists.

1) What's the name of the movie?
There are movies which we watch and then forget about them completely after a few days, if not any
sooner. Then, there are movies like “Forrest Gump”, which we never exactly get tired of watching
again and again because they make us think and experience our lives in some new lights.
2) What's the theme of the movie?
The underlying theme of the movie is that it advises a person to run from all the negative thoughts,
influences and bullies of life as fast as he can, no matter how others around him try to “degrade” him
physically and intellectually.
3) Why do you like it?
Why do I like the movie so much? Well, I like
this movie primarily because it teaches us to
find out on our own what exactly life is all
about instead of paying attention to what
others say about it. Besides, I like this movie
also because it asks us to show “respect” to
people, who seem rather “simplistic” in their
thoughts and actions, because they also have
their own dreams, and that they also chase
their dreams very successfully in life.
Follow-up:
1. What's the difference between Vietnamese and American movies?
The actors in Vietnamese movies aren’t so famous and talented, on the contrary in Hollywood they
are of worldwide fame. There is a large variety of the topics and themes of Hollywood movies.

are released and enjoyed worldwide while Vietnamese movies are mostly made for us except for
some very few movies that get international attention.

bad.

1) How is it played?
As a child I enjoyed playing chess. It is probably the best known board game in the world,
where two players try to defeat the other by taking his or her pieces and finally trapping his King. This
final move is called checkmate.
You probably know the Western version of this game, which is known as King chess. The
former is more popular among younger generations, whereas the latter is mostly played by older
people. I personally enjoy both of them equally.

2) What can you learn from the game?

These games are difficult in that you have think to ahead and plan your steps carefully, while keeping

whenever I manage to outwit the other player

Chess games are also a good way to build a bond with your friends, since they encourage healthy
rivalry and prevent you from being arrogant, because there’s always someone who’s able to beat you.

Games in the past is more on physical games/requires our body to move
while Games in the present is all about online games, you can play while in
bed or sitting. They are both games and entertaining.
In the past, there were old people who are telling the stories of children who
were playing in the streets, parks and gardens, but now, their grandchildren

2. What do cameras and videos play in celebrating?

- When it comes to an unforgettable event of my life, my graduation day immediately springs to mind.
To this day, I still remember vividly that it wastaken place on a sunny day of September 2010. The
graduation ceremony was organized in the main auditorium, which was the venue for important
events of my university.
- After the Chancellor delivered his graduation speech, the valedictorian, who was a student from the
faculty of Business Administration, gave his speech about his experience over the past four years on
our behalf. His speech was so heartfelt and emotional that it received a standing ovation from
everyone in the auditorium. After that, each student, one by one, walked on the stage to shake hands
and receive the degree from the Chancellor. The idea of walking across the stage in front of hundreds
of people made me really anxious and I kept biting my nails when waiting in line behind the stage.
However, as soon as I got to the stage, my anxiety was replaced with pride. I couldn’t help but feel
proud of myself because my efforts over the past four years finally paid off.
- Once the distribution of degrees had been finished, I, together with my friends, made out way to the
Main Hall downstairs, where we were greeted by my family members, relatives and friends. Since it
was such an occasion, my parents put aside their farmwork and went all the way from my hometown
to Ha noi city to join with me. Later on, we had a professional photographer taking a bunch of photos
to save that pivotal moment of mine.
- The reason why my graduation day is one of my most memorable events is that it marked the
transition from my university life to working life. From then on, I flew out from the warmth and
comfort of the university to embark on a new chapter of my life. Every time I look at the photographs,
the memories of that day came flooding back

and never fall again”. I put it on and the magic happened. I haven't had a fall since wearing that bracelet. Until

seems to give me more strength to overcome all difficulties in life.
Follow-up:
1. What are the changes of happiness between now and past?
What is happiness? There is a big difference in answers between the present and the past. In the past, happiness
was simply having clothes to wear and food to eat, but today, happiness is eating beautifully dressed and
traveling often. Besides, in the past, when people were able to meet each other to share life's problems, it was
considered happiness, but today happiness is sitting at home, sharing photos on facebook and receiving
compliments from their friends.
2. Does money represent happiness and why?
In my opinion, money can bring happiness but does not represent happiness for two main reasons.. Firstly,
some people, even though they have a lot of money, are still unhappy. In contrast, some people even though
they have no money, they are still happy. For example, many families are poor but they still love each other,
the family is always full of laughter, that is happiness.

14. Describe the best present you have received (Thoa)
1) Who sent it to you?
2) When did you receive it?
3) Detailed information about the present
Follow-up:
1. Do you think that present giving will play an important role in daily life? Why?
2. In terms of the media, which do you think will play a main role in present giving, television, newspaper
or Internet?

First of all, I would like to thank you for this nice topic. The best gift or present that I have ever
received is a digital dictionary that my mother bought me on my 18th birthday. I was a college
student at that time and my parents celebrated my birthday at home. Few friends and relatives were
invited and it was a kind of family celebration. I was quite thrilled to open the gift boxes that my
friends and family members gave to me and there were some books, chocolate boxes and other gift
items. Out of these gifts, an electronic dictionary was something truly amazing. As soon as I opened
it, I knew it was a gift from my mother.

I once told my mother about this electronic dictionary and how some of my classmates were using it. I
never told my mother that I wanted to buy one but I guess my mother knew very well how much I
wanted to own this item. She had to save money, I guess, to purchase it for me and this is the best
gift I have ever received in my life considering the passion and love it enwrapped. This was not
merely a gift item or an electronic device, it was more than that - like a wonder box wrapped with
care and love. My mother is a housewife and managing the money to buy me this gift must have been
a result of her many small sacrifices. I thanked my mother for this fabulous gift and she was so happy
to see me enthralled about the gift.

It was a white and small digital dictionary, not more than 4 by 6 inches in dimension, but was one of
the latest models. It was quite handy for me and having this dictionary encouraged me to learn more
words, their synonyms and their origins.

The gifts are always good gestures, tokens of appreciation and expression of love in our tradition. This
gift was something even more special to me. I knew how much my mother has always loved me and
her gift represented her love as well as sacrifices for me. In terms of utilisation, it was quite beneficial
too. I could easily carry it in my pocket and I used it often to learn new words and that has helped me
enhance my language skill. This is the only gift from my teenage time that I still have. I will always
remember my mother's love that was blended with this gift.
Follow-up:
1. Do you think that present giving will play an important role in daily life? Why?
It seems to me that this is a bit ambiguous. More precisely, present giving is something that
occurs in special events, for example, at birthdays, festivals, anniversaries, wedding, graduation
day, on name days, when someone visits others and so on. I don't think that there are many
people around the world who give presents to their loved ones or to friends on a daily basis.
Furthermore, with regards to the future, I am of the opinion that giving gifts won't have a
special role in everyday life either because, as I said earlier, presents are given when
something important happens. However, there is no doubt that present giving plays an
important role in our relationship and that will always remain the same.
2. In terms of the media, which do you think will play a main role in present giving, television, newspaper
or Internet?
I am quite positive that the internet already plays a greater role in our present-giving trend,
and in the future, the internet will be the hub to send or receive gifts with the booming of the
e-commerce and related technology in almost all around the world.

I believe, the internet is a more powerful media that will connect more people in the future
than the television and newspaper would. This is why the main role of choosing, purchasing,
sending or receiving gifts would all be done with the help of this technology. The television and
newspaper fail to connect people all around the world as they are not reciprocal and interactive
technology. The rich and interactive internet features like price-comparison, wishlist,
dropshipping, product customisation, global e-commerce giants like Amazon and worldwide
express delivery systems would, in fact, change the way we purchase and give gifts.

15. Describe your holidays (Tươi)

strong, you will be very excited when you play with it. There are a lot of beauty spots, and good seafood there

1. What do the Vietnamese people mostly do in their leisure time?
We country with a large population of different religions, traditions and cultures. Their leisure activities thus
vary to a great extent. Besides, leisure activities among the city dwellers and villagers are not the same. But
generally speaking, people go outside for shopping, watch TV, read newspapers and books, meet friends, watch
movies, travel to different tourists sports, take their children to amusement parks and museums, and eat dinners
at their favourite restaurants when they have leisure time. Many people, however, play different sports and
games in the morning and evening. The youngsters mostly prefer to hang out with their friends and use the

2. Do you think people will spend more time on leisure or working in the future?
In terms of time, working hours would be, without any doubt, far greater than the time spent on leisure
activities in the future. The daily working hours in many professions is increasing and it will rise even more in
the future. But people will be more curious and interested in having thoughtful and pleasant leisure activities in
the future as well.
