1. JITENDRA SINGH RELEASED ‘BIOTECH-PRIDE’


Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science & Technology released ‘Biotech-PRIDE
(Promotion of Research and Innovation through Data Exchange) Guidelines’ developed by Department of Biotechnology
(DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology.Biotech-PRIDE is the 1st of its kind by the DBT.
2. 36TH EDITION OF CORPAT
The 36th Edition of Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) was held between the Navies of India and Indonesia from July 30-31,
2021 in the Indian Ocean region (IOR).Under SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) mission, Indian Navy has
been actively partnering with countries in the littoral states of Indian ocean to enhance maritime security in the region.
3. ANTONY BLINKEN’S VISIT TO INDIA
The Secretary of State of the United States (US), Antony Blinken visited India. This is Blinken’s 1st visit to India after
assuming charge as Secretary of State.The US Government announced an additional USD 25 million (~ INR 186 Crores) to
support India’s COVID-19 Vaccination programme. The fund will be provided through the US Agency for International
Development (USAID).
4. NFL & RCF SIGN MOU WITH IFFCO
National Fertilisers Limited (NFL) & Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd (RCF) signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) for ‘Transfer of Technology’ of fertiliser
Nano Urea Liquid.Nano Urea is manufactured by IFFCO; India is the 1st country globally to start commercial production of
Nano Urea.Improper use of Chemical Fertilizers is causing water pollution and air pollution, Nano urea being an eco-
friendly product will protect the health of the soil and will result in reducing the use of urea by upto 50%.
5. SCO DEFENCE MINISTERS CONCLAVE 2021
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Dushanbe, Capital of Tajikistan from July 27-29, 2021 to participate in the annual
meeting of the Defence Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states.It was chaired by Tajikistan
(2021 SCO Presidency Chair).
6. HIGH-TECH CARBINE ‘TRICA’
The Ordnance factory Tiruchirappalli (OFT) in Tamil Nadu launched a new high-tech and low sound weapon called TriCa
(Trichy Carbine), a mini version of the Trichy Assault Rifle (TAR). It was unveiled by General Manager of OFT Sanjay
Dwivedi, IOFS (Indian Ordnance Factories Service) during a function.
7. WORLD’S 1ST COMMERCIAL RE-PROGRAMMABLE SATELLITE
European Space Agency (ESA) launched ‘Eutelsat Quantum’ – the world’s 1st commercial reprogrammable satellite into
space aboard Ariane 5 rocket from French Guiana. It is a fully flexible software-defined satellite.The Quantum satellite is
capable of responding to changing demands for data transmission and secure communication during its lifespan of 15 years
and will cover the areas from West Africa to Asia.
8. WORLD RANGER DAY 2021 – 31 JULY
World Ranger Day is annually observed across the globe on 31st July to commemorate the Rangers who are injured or
killed in the line of their duty. The day also marks the foundation of the International Ranger Federation (IRF). IRF was
founded on 31st July 1992.The theme of World Ranger Day 2021 is “Ranger Safety and Wellbeing”.

9. 1% HORIZONTAL RESERVATION FOR TRANSGENDER
Karnataka has become the first state in the country to provide 1% horizontal reservation for the transgender in each
category of general, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) for all government
services after amending the Rule 9 Sub Rule (1D) Karnataka Civil Service (General Recruitment) Rule, 1977.
10. 1ST POSITION IN INDIA UNDER CCTNS
The Haryana Police with 100 per cent marks, secured the 1st position in India under Crime and Criminal Tracking Network
System (CCTNS). Gujarat Police secured the 2nd position, while Himachal Pradesh was placed third.CCTNS was created for
a comprehensive and integrated system for effective policing through e-Governance.
11. NEW UNESCO HERITAGE SITE
The Extended 44th Session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) was held in Fuzhou, China. It was organized by
UNESCO in cooperation with China.Dholavira: a Harappan City, Gujarat (Cultural Site) – 40th World Heritage Site.India
now has 40 UNESCO World Heritage Sites (32 Cultural, 7 Natural & 1 Mixed Property). It enters the Super-40 club for
World Heritage Site inscriptions. Apart from India, Italy, Spain, Germany, China and France have 40 or more World Heritage
Sites.Maharashtra has the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites (5).
12. LOKMANYA TILAK NATIONAL AWARD 2021
Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla, Founder and Chairman of the Serum Institute of India (SII), Pune has been selected for Lokmanya
Tilak National Award, 2021.Poonawalla will be honoured for his work during the COVID-19 pandemic by manufacturing
Covishield vaccine and thereby saving many lives.
13. YOUNGEST TO REACH THE SUMMIT OF K2
Shehroze Kashif, a 19-year old from Lahore, Pakistan became the Youngest person in the world to reach the summit of K2
(8,611 metres or 28,251 ft) in Karakoram range on the border of Pakistan and China.
14. GOVT APPOINTED DEEPAK DAS AS 25TH CGA
Government of India has appointed Deepak Das, the 1986-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer as the 25th
Controller General of Accounts (CGA) under the Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure.Prior to his appointment
as CGA, he was the principal chief controller of accounts in the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
15. INDIA ASSUMED THE UNSC PRESIDENCY FOR AUGUST 2021
India, the non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), took over the presidency of the UNSC
from France for the month of August 2021. During its presidency, India will be hosting events related to maritime security,
peacekeeping, and counter terrorism.The presidency of the UNSC is held by each of its members in turn for 1 month,
following the English alphabetical order of the Member States’ names.
16. HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX 2021
Alpine Renault’s Esteban Ocon (France) won the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix 2021 held at Hungaroring, Budapest,
Hungary. It is Esteban Ocon’s maiden F1 victory.Mercedes’ driver Lewis Hamilton (United Kingdom) finished 2nd.
17. WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK 2021 – AUGUST 1 TO 7
United Nations(UN)’s World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is annually observed across the globe from 1st to 7th August to
encourage breastfeeding which contributes to the health of babies across the Globe.The annual observance of the WBW is
organised by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action(WABA).The theme of World Breastfeeding Week chosen by
WABA is “Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility”.

18. MUSLIM WOMEN RIGHTS DAY
The Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) decided to observe Muslim Women’s Rights Day annually on August 1 across India
to celebrate the enactment of the law against triple talaq.The day also celebrated 2nd anniversary of the enactment of the
law against triple talaq in 2019 i.e. Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.
19. WORLD LUNG CANCER DAY 2021 – AUGUST 1
World Lung Cancer Day is annually observed across the globe on 1st August to create awareness about lung cancer, one of
the most common forms of cancer across the globe and the preventive measure against lung cancer. The day also aims to
promote overall lung health.Pearl or white is the colour of the Lung Cancer Awareness ribbon.
20. E-VOUCHER DIGITAL PAYMENT SOLUTION E-RUPI
PM Narendra Modi virtually launched a prepaid electronic voucher-based digital payment solution named ‘e-RUPI’ to
strengthen the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and the financial inclusion of unbanked citizens.e-RUPI, the ‘person and
purpose-specific’ one-time cashless and contactless digital payment vouchers was developed by the National Payments
Corporation of India (NPCI) on its UPI (Unified Payments Interface) platform.
21. NATIONAL SC/ST HUB TO SUPPORT ENTREPRENEURS
During a session in Parliament, Union Minister for MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises), Narayan TatuRane stated
that funds of INR 120 Crore were released in FY 21 under the National Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) Hub
(NSSH), to provide financial support to SC/ST Entrepreneurs.The National SC/ST Hub was set up in October, 2016 to
provide support to SC/ST Entrepreneurs to fulfil obligations under the Central Government Public Procurement Policy for
Micro and Small Enterprises Order 2012, adopt applicable business practices and utilize the Stand Up India initiative.
22. DEFEXPO-2022 TO BE HELD AT GANDHINAGAR, GUJARAT
DefExpo-2022 (12th Edition), the land and naval systems show of the Ministry of Defence has been scheduled to be held at
Gandhinagar, Gujarat from March 11-13, 2021. It is a biennial event and is organised by the Ministry of Defence.
23. UN FORUM TO ADDRESS CHALLENGES OF RACISM
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) approved the establishment of Permanent Forum of People of African
Descent to provide expert advice on addressing the challenges of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and
intolerance.The forum will consist of 10 members’ viz. five elected by the UNGA from all regions and five appointed by the
UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) following consultations with regional groups and organizations of people of African
descent.
24. G20 CULTURE MINISTERS’ MEETING 2021
The 1st G20 Culture Ministers’ Meeting 2021 was held in July 2021, virtually in Rome, Italy. It was hosted by Italy as it
assumed the G20 2021 Presidency on 1 December 2020.From India, Meenakashi Lekhi, the Minister of State for External
Affairs and Culture participated in the meeting.
25. MOST INNOVATIVE IN DIGITAL BANKING
The Banker, the Financial Times publication has honoured DBS Bank, a Singapore based financial service group, as the
Global and Asia-Pacific winner for the Most Innovation in Digital Banking, at its Innovation in Digital Banking Awards 2021.
DBS Bank was formerly known as “The Development Bank of Singapore Limited”

• MukeshAmbani’s oil-to-telecom conglomerate Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) slipped 59 places to rank 155th (due to COVID-
19) on the 2021 Fortune Global 500 list, this is the lowest ranking of RIL since 2017.

27. MIN AUNG HLAING DECLARED HIMSELF AS PM OF MYANMAR
Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Chief of Myanmar’s Military has declared himself as the Prime Minister(PM) of
Myanmar. The state administration council of Myanmar has been reformed as the “Caretaker government of Myanmar”
headed by Min Aung Hlaing as the PM.
28. TOKYO 2020 SUMMER OLYMPICS
The 32nd Edition of Olympic Games is taking place in Tokyo, Japan from 23rd July, 2021 – 8th August, 2021.The Specific
Motto of the Tokyo Olympics is ‘United by Emotion’.Japanese Emperor Naruhito officially declared the Tokyo 2020 Summer
Olympics open, while Japanese Women’s Tennis Players lit up the Olympic Cauldron.The Opening ceremony took place at
the newly-built National Stadium, Tokyo.

India has won 2 medals – 1 Silver, 1 Bronze till August 3, 2021.

• Mirabai Chanu wins Silver Medal in Weightlifting
• Mirabai Saikom Chanu (Manipur) won the Silver Medal in 49kg Weightlifting category with a total lift of 202 Kg.
• She became 1st Indian Weightlifter to win Silver in Olympics.
• P.V. Sindhu wins Bronze Medal in Badminton
• P.V. Sindhu (Telangana) won the Bronze Medal in Women’s Badminton after defeating China’s He Bingjiao in the Bronze
Medal match.
• She became the 1st Indian Woman and 2nd Indian overall to win 2 Olympic Medals.
29. ‘HAR HITH STORE’ SCHEME
In order to make Haryana ‘Berojgar Mukt, Rozgar Yukt’ by 2024 on the lines of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Chief Minister (CM)
of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar launched ‘Har Hith store’ scheme to encourage youth towards self-employment. The
launch of the scheme was made by inaugurating a store during a programme held at Panchkula, Haryana.
30. RESTORATION OF MUGHAL GARDENS
The government of Jammu and Kashmir(J&K) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with the JSW Foundation
for the conservation, restoration and maintenance of the Mughal Gardens at Shalimar Bagh and NishatBaghin
Kashmir.These 2 are among the 6 imperial gardens proposed to be nominated to UNESCO as World Heritage Site.The
estimated cost of the project isRs 7 crore.
31. PUNE’S 1ST METRO UNVEILED BY TITAGARH WAGONS
Titagarh Wagons Ltd, a company based out of Titagarh in West Bengal, held a virtual ceremony to display its first train for
Pune Metro (Maharashtra) which was manufactured by its subsidiary in Italy (Europe), Titagarh Firema SpA Plant.It will be
India’s first lightest metro trainset as it is being manufactured with Aluminium for the first time in our country.
32. UNEMPLOYMENT RATE ROSE TO 13.3% IN Q2 FY2
In August 2021, the National Statistical Office (NSO) released the 8th Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) – Quarterly
Bulletin for the Q2 FY21 (July 2020 – September 2020).As per the PLFS, the Jobless/Unemployment rate (UR) in urban
areas in Current Weekly Status (CWS) increased to 13.3 percent in Q2 FY21 when compared to 8.4 percent in Q2 FY20 (July
2019 – September, 2019).

33. INDIA’S 1ST HYPER-SCALE DATA CENTER WITH 100% RE
ReNew Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RackBank Datacenters Limited to power India’s 1st
hyper-scale Data center with 100% Renewable Energy (RE), it is also set to be India’s 1st Green Data center. The MoU is
one of India’s largest ‘Open Access’ MoUs.
34. GARIMA GRIHAS FOR TRANSGENDER PERSONS
During a discussion in Parliament, Minister of State (MoS) for Social Justice and Empowerment A. Narayanaswamy stated
that Government is planning to set up Garima Grihas for Transgender persons with the help of community-based
organizations.Garima Grihas will provide safe and secure shelter to Transgender persons.12 Pilot shelter homes have
already been initiated.
35. SEBI ALLOWS PAYMENTS BANKS TO ACT AS INVESTMENT BANKERS
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) allowed payments banks to carry out the activities of investment bankers in
order to ease the access for investors to participate in public and rights issues by using various payment avenues.Also, Non-
scheduled payments banks, which have prior approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), will be eligible to act as
Bankers to an Issue (BTI) with regard to the conditions stipulated in the BTI rules.
36. MINI IPE APPOINTED AS THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF LIC
The government of India has appointed Mini Ipe as the new Managing Director of the Life Insurance Corporation(LIC) of
India. She has been serving as the Executive Director, Legal Department, LIC of India.She has taken charge as the MD of the
LIC of India succeeding Vipin Anand, who has retired in July 2021.
37. PADMA SACHDEV PASSED AWAY
Padma Sachdev the 1st Modern woman poet of Dogri language and Padma Shri awardee passed away at Mumbai hospital
due to health reasons. She had won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971 for her anthology of poems – ‘Meri Kavita Mere
Geet’.
38. ‘MIRACLE FROM CHANDIGARH’ PASSES AWAY
Centenarian sprinter and World Masters Games Medalist Man Kaur, who is referred as ‘Miracle from Chandigarh’, has
passed away in Patiala, Punjab. She was born on 1st March 1916. Man Kaur hailing from Patiala, Punjab, started her
athletics career at the age of 93.She became the world’s fastest Centenarian at 2016 American Masters games held in
Vancouver.
39. ‘DELHI@2047’ TO MAKE DELHI A GLOBAL CITY BY 2047
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the ‘Delhi@2047’ initiative to facilitate partnership with the private sector,
CSR initiatives (Corporate Social Responsibility) and philanthropic Organisation to make Delhi a global city by 2047.The
vision document has set an aim to take Delhi’s per capita income to Singapore’s level (which means it has to increase the
per capita income 16-fold).
40. WORLD’S HIGHEST ROAD IN LADAKH
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) constructed the world’s highest 52-km-long tarmac road or motorable pass at
Umling LA Pass in eastern Ladakh at an altitude of 19,300 feet which has surpassed the record of a road in Bolivia, South
America at 18,953 ft which connects to its volcano Uturuncu.This road will enhance socio-economic conditions and
promote tourism in Ladakh.
41. GOI REDUCES MUDRA LOAN TARGET
Government of India (GoI) has set the Loan Disbursement Target under Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) at INR 3
trillion for the current Financial Year (FY) 2021-22.It is less than the target set in the FY of 2020-21 – INR 3.21 Trillion.The
target has been lowered due to the increased allocation under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) for

small businesses.In the previous FY 2020-21, the total loans disbursed under PMMY stood at INR 3.12 trillion, out of the
sanctioned amount of INR 3.21 trillion.
42. GOVERNORS CAN PARDON DEATH ROW UNDER ARTICLE 161
A Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Hemant Gupta & AS Bopanna held that the Governor of a state can pardon
prisoners, including death row convicts, even before they have served a minimum 14 years of prison sentence, as per
constitutional powers granted to Governors under Article 161 of the Indian Constitution.The court also noted that the
sovereign power of a Governor to pardon a prisoner under Article 161 is actually exercised by the State government and
not the Governor on his own. So, the advice of the appropriate government will be binding on the Governor.
43. ISRO LAUNCHES ‘QUEST’
Dr K Sivan, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) formally inaugurated the Health QUEST study (Health
Quality Upgradation Enabled by Space Technology of ISRO) to upgrade the healthcare systems standards of India in line
with the ISRO’s quality standards and best practices.The Study Team will explore the possibility of replicating ISRO’s
Quality Assurance Mechanisms which are used in Space Technology in India’s hospitals.This is to ensure Zero-defect &
Quality of service in the Emergency and Intensive Care Units (ICUs) of hospitals.
44. NABARD PARTNERS WITH CWC
National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has partnered with the Central Warehousing Corporation
(CWC) through the NAB Foundation, to offer storage facilities for the Farmers Producer Organisation (FPOs) at lower rates
for the next 5 years.Under this partnership, the state-of-the-art storage facilities of CWC will be made accessible for the
5000+ FPO’s across India.
45. SBI PAYMENTS, HITACHI PAYMENT SERVICES PARTNERED FOR E-RUPI
SBI Payments partnered with Hitachi Payment Services to introduce e-RUPI transactions on the Yono SBI Merchant
app.Objective: To enable the merchants to use the ‘UPI Voucher’ feature on the Yono SBI Merchant App to accept prepaid
UPI e-vouchers.Under the partnership, the Hitachi Payment Services will support SBI Payments in merchant on-boarding
and merchant transaction settlements for e-RUPI.
46. INS VIKRANT –BEGINS SEA TRIAL
India’s 1st Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC-1) INS Vikrant has been launched for sea trials off the coast of Kochi, Kerala. A
sea trial is the last phase of testing.INS Vikrant has been designed by the Directorate of Naval Design (DND), Indian Navy
and is built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL).The total cost of the project is around INR 23,000 crore. Over 76% of the
material and equipment on board is indigenous.It has been named as INS Vikrant in remembrance of India’s 1st Aircraft
Carrier INS Vikrant, which played a major role in the 1971 war against Pakistan. It was decommissioned in 1997.
47. INDIA’S 1ST EARTHQUAKE EARLY WARNING MOBILE APP
Uttarakhand Government launched India’s 1st Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) Mobile App ‘Uttarakhand Bhookamp
Alert’ for alerting its people about the onset of earthquakes. The app has been developed by IIT-Roorkee (IITR).The region
of Uttarakhand is seismically active and prone to earthquakes.
48. ‘A BEGUM AND A RANI’ NEW BOOK
Renowned historian and author Rudrangshu Mukherjee has authored a new book titled “A Begum and A Rani: Hazrat
Mahal and Lakshmibai in 1857” which explores the lives of ‘Begum Hazrat Mahal of Awadh’ and ‘Rani Lakshmibai of
Jhansi’.The book is published by Penguin Random House India.
49. POWER OF STATES, UTS TO MAKE ‘OBC LIST’
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Constitution (127th) Amendment Bill, which
will restore the power of States and Union Territories (UTs) to make their own Other Backward Class (OBC) lists.The bill

will be passed for parliament approval in the upcoming parliament session, after approval, the amendments will be made
over the Article 342-A and 366(26) C of the Constitution.Article 366(26C) gives the definition for Socially and Educationally
Backward Classes (SEBC).
50. WATER VILLAS WILL BE SET UP IN LAKSHADWEEP
For the first time in India, water villas will be set up in the Union Territory (UT) of Lakshadweep with an outlay of Rs 800
crore. Similar to water villas in Maldives, these will be solar-powered and eco-friendly to provide world-class facilities.The
decision behind this development is to develop Lakshadweep like Maldives in order to promote tourism and to benefit local
residents.
51. ASHWINI VAISHNAW REPRESENTS INDIA AT G20 DIGITAL MINISTERS MEETING
Union Minister for the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Ashwini Vaishnaw led the Indian
Delegation at the G20 Digital Ministers Meeting 2021 held virtually from Tieste, Italy. The meeting was hosted by Italy (G20
2021 Presidency).The participants adopted the “Leveraging Digitalization for a Resilient, Strong, Sustainable and Inclusive
Recovery” declaration at the meeting.
52. THIRD BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY OF FY21-22
The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) 6-members Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) had met on 4th, 5th and 6th August 2021
and released its third bi-monthly monetary policy statement for FY22 (April 2021 – March 2022).

53. MAJOR DHYAN CHAND KHEL RATNA AWARD
The Highest sporting honour of India, “Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award”, has been renamed as “Major Dhyan Chand Khel
Ratna Award” in honour of the hockey Wizard Dhyan Chand.The Khel Ratna Award named after former Prime Minister
Rajiv Gandhi was instituted in 1991-1992 and the inaugural award was presented to Vishwanath Anand(Chess).
54. CHITKARA UNIVERSITY AS DISTRICT GREEN CHAMPION 2020-2021
Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE) under the Ministry of Education has recognised the
Chitkara University in Patiala as the ‘District Green Champion’ for the academic year 2020-2021.Dr Madhu Chitkara, Pro-
Chancellor of Chitkara University received the award in the presence of Kumar Amit, Deputy Commissioner, Patiala.
55. DHRITI BANERJEE APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF ZSI
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the proposal for appointment of Dhriti Banerjee as the Director of
the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), She will be the 1st Woman Director of ZSI in 100 years. Dhriti Banerjee will succeed Dr.
Kailash Chandra.
56. INDIA AMBASSADOR FOR MOTOGP
Eurosport India, an Indian sports channel of Discovery Asia-Pacific has appointed Bollywood Actor John Abraham as India
ambassador for its flagship motorsport property MotoGP.Yamaha’s R15 is the co-presenting sponsor for the MotoGP
broadcast in India.

Stakes in Financial Technology Platform IBBIC (Indian Banks’ Blockchain Infrastructure Co).The 6 Banks have picked up

5.55 percent stake each, representing 50,000 shares in IBBIC, for cash at INR 5 lakh each.IBBIC platform offers Distributed
Ledger technology (DLT) solutions (also known as Blockchain Technology) to the Indian Financial services sector. The
equity ownership of IBBIC is aimed at providing DLT solutions for the financial services sector.
