This artwork shows of a merchant couple. Theories suggest
it could be a wedding, double portrait or a memorial. It is
meant to showcase their wealth.
Visual Details:
The sculpture is made out of bronze which was a popular
material during the renaissance. He is staging contrapposto
which helps show movement in this piece. He is portrayed
nude in the sculpture. He is also standing over goliaths
severed head. His face also expresses emotions of
confidence.
Contextual Details:

The expressions on madonna symbolize the maternal love
and devotion. The angels’ expressions show the admiration
of the child. There are also halos around all of the figures
heads sumbilizing the holiness and divinity of Mary and
Christ.

representing the tension during this time. The artwork was
made in perspective which naturally draws the viewer to look
at jesus in the middle.

This work is meant to represent the supper where jesus
announce that one of his disciples will betray him. The artist

Her nudity in this artwork represents her status as the
goddess of love and fertility. Her expressions such as her
slight smile show a theme of intimacy and allure. Finally the
dog us interpreted as a symbol of fidelity and domesticity
showing venus’ companionship.

can be seen in the foreground of the paining who are
accompanied by dogs. The piece uses depth and
perspective to create a sense of distance in the landscape.
