Mrigaj’s Assignment - Eutrophication

Eutrophication is a process in which a body of water gets enriched with

nutrients ex: Phosphorus, Nitrogen, Silica, Carbon, and many more. This
comes from agricultural runoff, sewage discharge, use of fertilizers and many
more. The nutrients get worse and bigger, which eventually gets worse for
fish and plants as they do not have space and air to breathe and move.

The causes for eutrophication are agricultural, wastewater discharges,

erosion and Sedimentation, natural processes and many more.
Eutrophication is caused by excessive loading of nutrients into water bodies
like nitrate and phosphate fertilizers. Other causes include excessive
nutrients coming from point sources such as wastewater from industry and
municipal sewage, and non-point pollution like irrigation water, surface run
water containing fertilizer from farmland, etc. Agricultural practices and the
use of fertilizers on lawns, golf courses and other fields contribute to
phosphate and nitrate nutrient accumulation is also one more cause of this
issue.

The consequences for eutrophication are algae or some type of bacteria that
happens after the nutrients go in the water and it causes more dirtiness and
smell. There are some advantages which are Eutrophication and biodiversity
often go hand in hand. Biodiversity entails large animals and plants, algae,
fungi, bacteria, and many types of tiny invertebrates and insects. These
smaller micro-organisms are responsible for enriching the soil with nutrients
needed for plant growth. Fungi and bacteria degrade organic matter, which
then breaks down into fertile soil. Biodiversity also plays an essential role in
decomposing toxic waste. By eutrophication, organic materials such as twigs,
insects, dead animals, logs, and leaves are decomposed. This is a delicate
process that maintains balance in the ecosystem, whereas certain microbes
and insects perform an essential role in removing toxins from the
environment. The disadvantages are algal blooms, oxygen depletion, loss of
biodiversity and more. There are more disadvantages than advantages
because it causes harmful effects on humans, animals and plants and it is not
good.

Eutrophication is connected with one of the global factors which is

environmental. It is related to the environment as it involves water harmful
for the air because the algae get in the water and causes harmful bacteria for
humans, fish, and plants. Eutrophication is not infection but causes indirect
infection which are skin irritation, harmful algal blooms toxins (HABs) and
many more. So, you should not touch, drink, or do anything with it.

So, in conclusion i think Eutrophication is harmful for our bodies and is

happening because of polluted water being passed in lakes, pond, rivers, etc.
This is very harmful for aquatic life and us as it kills the fishes and many
other living organisms. This practice of polluting water bodies should be
stopped at the earliest.
