All: Good afternoon!! We are the group four.

Leader: We will Discuss and Understand the story entitled ' The Gift of the Magi .

Leader: Before we start, let me introduce you our classmates that will answer our questions.

(introduce)

Leader: Let's begin!

Questioner 1: What is important about the title? Does it suggest that the story has a religous lesson or just that Chrismas will figure into the plot somehow?

Sasagot 1: the title the gift of the magi is Perfect title to the story because for those who didnt know the biblical story of the magi also knowknown as the three wise men or the three kings who brought the gifts to baby jesus. this
magi symbolize the couple in the story James and Della because they symbolize the true giving gift in their selflessness like the three wise men

Questioner 2:What are some central ideas or themes of the story?

Sasagot 2: There are many theme is the story, and this is some of it:

1. Selflessness. Jim and Della both sacrifice their possessions to have a gift for each other, finding out that their sacrifices became useless.

2. Sacrifice: The story emphasizes the theme of sacrifice as both Jim and Della give up their most treasured possessions to buy gifts for each other. Their willingness to sacrifice demonstrates the depth of their love and their desire
to make each other happy.

3. Love and Devotion: The story revolves around the theme of love and the profound devotion between Jim and Della. Their actions showcase the selflessness and unwavering commitment they have for one another.

4. Materialism vs. True Value: O. Henry critiques the materialistic nature of society by contrasting it with the true value of love and personal connections. The story suggests that material possessions hold little significance
compared to the emotional bond shared between individuals.

5. The True Meaning of Gift-Giving: "The Gift of the Magi" challenges conventional notions of gift-giving. It suggests that the value of a gift lies not in its material worth but in the sentiment and sacrifice behind it. The story
encourages readers to reflect on the deeper meaning of giving and receiving gifts.

6. Poverty and Wealth: The story touches upon the theme of poverty and the challenges faced by individuals with limited financial means. Despite their modest circumstances, Jim and Della find a way to express their love through
their sacrifices, highlighting the power of love over material wealth.

Questioner 3: What are some conflicts in the story? Are they internal or external?

Sasagot 3: The conflicts happens when della thinks about cutting his hair to buy his husband a best chain for his watch. This conflict consider as internal because as we all know internal conflict is a conflict that the protagonist
struggle between only herself

Questoner 1: List a metaphor or comparison in the story. Explain it.

Sasagot 1:first the comparison of Della and Jim to the magi, who offered gifts to Jesus on the night of his birth. Second is While Della and Jim’s sacrifices ironically cancel each other out and render their gifts useless in turn, the
narrator claims that their selfless gestures embody the true wisdom and spirit of gift-giving, an art form invented by the magi. The metaphor is about how O. Henry describe Della's hair as “cascade of brown waters” to emphasize
it's beauty and flowing nature

Questioner 2: Why do we spend so much time getting to know Della in the story, while Jim is introduced only near the very end? Is her perspective more or less important than his?

Sasagot 2: Because as we all know that in the story even if the protagonist is in third person point of view must be only in one protagonist. if they use 2 or more person to point, this may lead to the story to be so long or episodal.
Note: you can use the 2 or more point of view when the story is long or the story is cutten into episodes or chapters

Questioner 3: some off the language and phrasing O. Henry uses in the gift of magi seems a bit outdated particularly his description of della and references to salary and prices in 1905 how could the story be outdated to be more
contemporary without losing it central lesson of love and sacrifices?

Sasagot 3 : I think that's not important why? Because the value of hair if you sell is not affordable to buy a jewelry and also in every story the only important part is the lesson you can get and also this story wouldn't become original

Questioner 1: what are some symbols in the gift of the magi is it telling that jim give up something material that can't be reclamed while della gives up of something that will regrow?

Sasagot 1: The symbolism of the hair and the pocket watch emphasizes the couple's selflessness and highlights their deep love for each other. Both characters give up their most prized possessions, but in different ways. Della's
sacrifice, represented by her hair, is something that will eventually regrow, implying the possibility of renewal and growth. Jim's sacrifice, represented by the pocket watch, is something that cannot be reclaimed, emphasizing the
permanence of his sacrifice

Questioner 2:Relate a symbol to a central idea or theme of the story.

Sasagot 2: The theme of The Gift of the Magi is love and devotion. Della and Jim love each other so much that they sacrifice their most prized possessions in order to give each other a Christmas gift.

Questioner 3: does the story end the way you expected? did you find it endearing that the two gave up there possession for each other, or are you exasperated that neither could enjoy other gifts?

Sasagot 3: The story ends in the way that I didn't expected, because Della sacrifice her possesions to buy a chain for her husband's watch finding out it became useless. Yes its endearing but also after a couple of seconds I feel
exasperated because there gift become useless in the end

Questioner 1: How does this short story compare with other works in holiday literature? Is it similar to the lessons in works like Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol?"

Sasagot 1: The gift of the magi have the value of sacrifices and selfless. In another question, I will answer yes but in another way the man in the story from being selfish he become a selfless

Questioner 2: How essential is the setting, both the time and place, to the story? Could the story have taken place anywhere else?

Sasagot 2: it is important that we celebrate Christmas at home because it's included in our traditions that noche buena should be celebrated at home and not somewhere else.
