Chapter 5: Write Your Resume

CAREER ACTION WORKSHEET

5-3 Strengthen Your Work Experiences 

Copy into a new file your Career Action Worksheet 4-4, Work Experiences. Finalize your
Work Experiences for use in your resume by using the following checklist:
 Order your Work Experiences chronologically, starting with the most recent
experience first.
 Follow the correct format: Job Title, Dates of Employment, Company Title, two-
sentence job description, bullet points of achievements.
 Strengthen your WHI-formatted achievements with quantifiable results.
 Eliminate unnecessary words and acronyms.
 Use industry-relevant keywords as appropriate.
 Choose action verbs that are relevant to your Work Experience, using the
reference list in Figure 5-1 on page 114 as a starting point.
 If your work experience is limited, have you included relevant paid and nonpaid
internships and volunteer or other pertinent activities?
 Include any significant school projects, organization work, or other related
experiences in this section. Significant projects would include ones where you
had significant results, spent a large amount of time, and/or can demonstrate
multiple skills using more than one bullet point. If you need only a single bullet
point to describe the work, it is probably better to include in an Optional section
such as Related Experiences or Organizations.
 Use your notes from the sample resumes you reviewed to ensure your resume
makes the best possible impression.

Ensure that these updates are in the “About Jobs” section of your Career Builder Files.
