You may wonder what distinguishes Henry Sy, the founder of SM group of
companies, from an ordinary grocer in your neighborhood. Who was more creative on
rendering services or selling their wares? Who took more risks in running his business?
Who was more successful?
Observation will show that ordinary businessmen merely copy what is already in
the market to take advantage of the profits that everyone is realizing in the industry.
Entrepreneurs, on the other hand, go beyond what plain businessmen do.
Entrepreneurs look for a new design or application for an existing product and organize
the needed resources to transform this idea into a marketable good or service.
Innovation is what distinguished an entrepreneur from an ordinary businessman. To be
innovative, you have to be creative. Creativity is your ability to conceive new ideas, new
inventions, new applications and new approaches to problem solving. Innovation is the
process of transforming these new ideas into a reality.
As an entrepreneur in the making can you think of some innovations that you like
to see in existing goods or services that promotes health? Think of how you can
improve the features of the following product/service.

Within the food products industry, creative efforts might be directed towards creating
new, wholesome recipes that satisfy dietary requirements such as low-sugar, vegan, or
gluten-free diets. Advances in packaging that use biodegradable materials elevate
sustainability and are consistent with environmentally beneficial activities. Moreover,
using technology to provide clear disclosure of nutritional content, production
processes, and sourcing enables customers to make informed, health-conscious
decisions. In the constantly changing food sector, this all-encompassing strategy not
only takes into account the various nutritional needs of consumers but also encourages
environmental responsibility and a symbiotic link between sustainable practices and
customer well-being.
