Decreeing and Declaring

By: Thilana Bennett

“Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee.” Job 22:28

One of my favorite genres to watch is movies about King Arthur and the time period when kings,

queens, knights, and castles come alive on the screen. I often wondered what makes me enjoy

these types of movies (and I would have to suppose) that the way of “kingdom” life I find very

interesting. Watching “Kings” grapple with decisions, utilizing their power and authority to

defend their “kingdoms” in battles. One thing I noticed when watching those movies that they all

had in common, when a king made a decision and spoke it, that was it! Everyone followed or

there could be severe consequences including death. I liken that analogy to who I am as a King

and Priest according to Revelation 1:6 which states, “To Him who loved us and washed us from

our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be

glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” I am the righteousness of God that has the

authority in the earth as a king and priest to God the Father, who has dominion forever and ever.

With that, I’ve got the power to decree, to declare, and establish God’s kingdom on Earth.

According to the Oxford Dictionary of Languages, to decree means an official order

issued by a legal authority. In order for someone to be able to set a decree, as defined they must

be a legal authority. As the Righteousness of God, what I decree is backed by the authority given

to me through Jesus and will be established, “unto thee”. I have the legal authority and I am

within my rights to decree heaven's kingdom agenda with faith and have full expectation that

God’s will shall be established in my life.

To declare, which means to make known or set forth an accounting,

I not only have the authority to decree God’s word to be established in the earth, I also must

declare what has been established. In other words, believers have the authority to deem what
God says is lawful and unlawful in the Kingdom of God on the earth. I have direct orders from

God to declare and make known, his will, desire, and plans so that I can walk in his power, and

authority, and draw others into his kingdom.

Mankind was created to rule the earth, by establishing God’s will on earth “as it is in

heaven” Matthew 6:9-13. This open access to walk in God’s given authority, is for those who

choose to believe. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent

and believe the good news!” Mark 1:15. The time has come for believers to have the confidence

and courage to receive the authority Jesus paid for us to own. This is key, to be bold and

courageous to decree his word and declare it so God’s order is established over the evil forces in

the earth.

As a Kingdom Ambassador, that is my job, right, and desire. Romans 1:16 says, “For I

am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone

who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” The establishment of God’s decrees has the

power to save, heal, restore, and deliver those who are entrapped in darkness to be set free in

Christ. It goes beyond what God’s word can do just for one person but, God’s word was

established so that everyone could have an opportunity to live God’s original intent here on earth

with him.

Yet, everyone has a choice. A choice to believe that God has given all of us access to live

out the power and authority Jesus died to give. Believing God’s word and coming to him humble

like a child is key to living as Christ’s Ambassador in the earth. “And he said: "I tell you the

truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of

heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of

heaven.” Matthew 18 (NIV) I find this important to exercising my “kingly” and “priestly”
rights. If I let myself, I could talk myself into unbelief when God’s timing and my timing of

when the manifestation of his will, once I decree and declare his word, clashes. You see, I have

read many interpretations from other believers that when a decree and declaration is made, if it

goes a different way than what God’s word says then you are out of faith! I can remember almost

going down a trap of unbelief, refusing to have a spirit of expectation because of a major

disappointment when I did not get a job I was believing God to give me. I even had a “prophetic”

word. I made decrees and declarations and did not get the job. It took me years to get back to a

place where I could be in full expectation to believe God was truly for me overall. Since then, I

have learned from that experience and what helped me make my “way back” to understanding

who I am and what authority I have in Jesus, was the revelation of Matthew 18 to enter into his

kingdom like a child.

Through that experience, I learned that to decree and declare does not mean it is my job

to make God’s will happen according to my “human” understanding. However, it is my job to

believe him regardless, just like a child trusts their earthly parents, I must walk as a king and

priest in the earth regardless of my viewpoint, outcomes, and desires etc. by establishing his

word in every circumstance. I do not have to understand how it fits into his master plan. I do not

have to know when his plans will come to pass. I just have to know Him! I have full authority to

use his name, to decree his words, to declare what he has said. I am his righteousness by faith

God’s will is established in my life forevermore. It is so.
