Transcripts

6. Listening comprehension

Tom: Last year I went to Australia. I only had three weeks, so I crammed a lot into a short time,
but it was fantastic. I mostly stayed in hostels. They were ok but pricey. To save money I
traveled from place to place by bus. They were cheap, reliable, and safe. The people were
welcoming and kind. The sights were incredible, I took hundreds of photos. The weather
was great, it wasn’t too hot but sunny enough to wear shorts and T-shirts.

Susan: I had a terrible time when I went to Italy last year. It started off well. I arrived in Rome
and went straight to my hotel, and it was great. On the first day, I walked around taking
in the sights and trying out the local cuisine. I ate so much food. I couldn’t help it; it
tasted so good. But then the next morning I felt terrible. I couldn’t stop throwing up and
slept day and night. It lasted for the whole trip. I didn’t get to see any more sights or do
any activities. I only saw the inside of my hotel room. Fortunately, the hotel staff were
wonderful and looked after me.
