Below are some facts about turkey and Thanksgiving. Try to guess the correct

PART 1 Study the examples and usage of the verb be + gonna (going to).

When Phoebe sees the turkey on Joey’s head, she says...


“ Monica is gonna totally freak out!”

Later, when Monica is talking to Joey about the turkey on his head, she says...

“ That turkey has to feed 20 people at my parents’ house, and they’re not gonna eat it
off your head!”

In addition to expressing plans for the future, “gonna” often expresses expectations for the
future. In the examples from the video above, Phoebe expects Monica to freak out, and Monica
doesn’t expect her family to eat the turkey off Joey’s head.

STRUCTURE Subject + am / is / are + (not) + going to (“gonna”) + [base verb]

MORE EXAMPLES

Write the correct form of be + (not) + gonna + a verb which fits the context of each

sentence to express an expectation for the future. Pay attention to negation!
