We use the past continuous to talk about an unfinished or incomplete action in the past.
We often use it when telling a story in the past — when we are talking about an experience
in the past and then there is some interruption, or another action happens at the same time.
We often use the [PAST CONTINUOUS] + ...but / and then + [PAST SIMPLE].
EXAMPLES
We were having a really nice time, but then she stole my fries!
We were getting along all evening but then we started to argue.
I was eating my meal and then the server came to ask how everything was.
PART 2 Create “stories” in the past for each place below. Use the past continuous + but / and
then + past simple. Use the past continuous two times in each story.
