PART 1 Study the example and usage of the past continuous.

In the video, Joey describes his date with Sarah. He says...

We were out to dinner, we were getting along, we were having a really nice time.

I was thinking she was cool, but then, out of nowhere, she took some of my fries!”

We use the past continuous to talk about an unfinished or incomplete action in the past.
We often use it when telling a story in the past — when we are talking about an experience
in the past and then there is some interruption, or another action happens at the same time.

SUBJECT WAS / WERE VERB + -ing OBJECT CLAUSE

We were having a really nice time.
I was thinking she was really cool.

We often use the [PAST CONTINUOUS] + ...but / and then + [PAST SIMPLE].

EXAMPLES
We were having a really nice time, but then she stole my fries!
We were getting along all evening but then we started to argue.
I was eating my meal and then the server came to ask how everything was.

PART 2 Create “stories” in the past for each place below. Use the past continuous + but / and
then + past simple. Use the past continuous two times in each story.
