TITLE: COVID-19: AFFECTS THE SOCIAL RELATIONS OF THE GRADE 8

STUDENTS OF E.J. DULAY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

ABSTRACT:

Socialization in a child’s life is a must because it develops his/her growth

and maturation and how s/he can ameliorate his/her craft in the outside
premises. Thus, on the inception of this pandemic, learners underwent
challenges that lead them to depression. Depression is never a joke because it
can cause domino effects in their lives. They need to mingle with friends but
they are restricted and by doing so, their social relations with other children
have been changed.

KEY WORDS:

SOCIAL SKILLS- These are the things that we need to do in order to have good
relationships with our subordinates and stakeholders in a school setting.

PANDEMIC- Is an outbreak of disease that occurs over a wide geographic area

and affects the population of a significant extent.

SOCIAL RELATIONS- These are the gestures and attitudes that we use to
clearly convey the essence of a good relationship.

SOCIALIZATION- It is the process of beginning during childhood by which

individuals acquire the values, habits and attitudes of the society and
environment.

INTRODUCTION:

The onset of this COVID-19 pandemic has brought impalpable demises.

Many has been affected especially the learners. The new normal brought
enormous changes that caused a lot of distress to the children. They have been
neglected to go out and find happiness with their friends. They have been
locked and just sit within the four corners of the wall.

It is very alarming according to the World Health Organization (WHO)

that the children are just in closed doors for this very long time. It would lead
to depression and other mental illnesses that would crash their inner self. On
their age level, they must be playing outside and developing their selves for
their growth and maturation, but because of this chaos they have been
stagnant.

Here in E.J. Dulay, teachers can really see how this pandemic changed
the attitudes of the learners especially. Whenever they had their home
visitation, students were ashamed to face me and ask them questions about
their modules if they find it difficult. Their sense of socializing had lessened
and their communicative avenue had been dumfounded by blocks of
hindrances on their social skills. By that, the problem is evident and it urged
the researcher to delve into it.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

In order to measure the social skills that has been affected by this pandemic
and affects the social relations of the learners, a checklist has been utilized to
categorize and even arrange the results. The survey has been made to the 48
grade eight (8) learners. They just have to check the different social skills
presented.

Based on the preceding survey and checklist made, the following results has
recorded.

DISCUSSION

With the results garnered and interpreted, it is evident and concluded

that 12% of the respondents were able to choose and determined the
interpersonal skills, 43.20% made way to the communication skills, 38.40%
traversed to be a good listener and lastly 28.80% find call people by loved
names as one of the affected skills that they brought by this pandemic.

CONCLUSION

Good relationship with everyone around you can make you develop
yourself to be a productive one. Learners who are fond of making friends have
commendable communication skills that are useful in realizing their dreams in
life. Learners need to socialize because it develops their selves to know more
about everything around them. Also, no man is an island, so they need to
mingle with others to have this essence of camaraderie and love with each
other.

When children are freed and able to do the things that they usually do, they
will prosper in life and develop even more in knowing the extent of their
capability. Everything starts from socializing and if they know how to make the
most of it for sure they will have a brighter future.
