When I was asked to think of a word that best embodied Penn State engineers, the first
word that came to my mind was unrivaled. We Are UNRIVALED. Being unrivaled is more than a
representation of our heavenly football team, but an embodiment of the relentless pursuit of
knowledge, the tireless commitment to groundbreaking research, and the ceaseless exploration
of the frontiers of technology that define Penn State. While matt may disagree with this
statement, Penn State engineers and alumni (and the football team) go on to prove that we are
in fact unrivaled.

Prototyping/Bricolage-

After choosing that my word would be “unrivalved”, my immediate reaction was to make a
nittany lion that would roar “unrivaled” once you hit its nose. I always thought of the nittany lion
as a representative of every Penn-Stater, and for it to say that it was unrivaled would mean that
every Penn-Stater was unrivaled. So with this in mind, I set out to bricolage what my lion would
look like.

Unfortunately, my cardboard and fork creation did not resemble the image of the nittany lion.
More importantly, I came to the realization that I would not be able to make something that
looked good in OnShape. I learnt a really good lesson here about not jumping to final design
ideas and actually going through the design process.

Audio Component-

Arguably the hardest thing I’ve ever done in this class. Working with circuits and breadboards
with no prior knowledge was most definitely a challenge, but I gained so much valuable
information and had a lot of fun with it. The only downside is that I (accidentally) broke my
amplifier and it was quite an emotional battle to find a new one and restart again.

Final Design-

For the final design, I ended up doing something I could make in OnShape a bit easier. This
was the “UNRIVALED” logo, and I think it turned out pretty well. I was going to 3d-print the walls
for it, but a problem I faced was the printer giving up on me, and also realizing that it would’ve
been too big to print anyways. So, I ended up using styrofoam as my walls. Styrofoam allowed
me to hide the wires on the back of the design and also very easily attach everything together.
Overall, this project was a great way to end the semester and I learnt a TON about circuits. It
was also really fun to combine my design with Will’s at the end.
