Problem
Error message - Unable to Save Application Information when attempting to create
MER or Test Application.
Attempts to create a MER or Test Application files gives the following error:
Unable to Save Application Information.
While testing a particular application in FactoryTalk View Studio using the Test Application
feature, it hangs up at startup and displays the following error:

FactoryTalk View ME Station is not responding

The following error is observed in Windows Application event logs:

The program MERuntime.exe version 7.0.13.0 stopped interacting with

Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is
available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

RSView/FactoryTalk View Studio's status window reports:

Could not create FactoryTalk Directory for CPR version 7.0 for this
application

The user is not prompted to login when RSView/FactoryTalk View Studio is launched, the Admin
Console shows all existing projects, and when the Logon to FactoryTalk applet is run, it
correctly calls out the user's name under the Logon information frame.

Note: the CPR version number listed in the error message above will depend on which version
of FactoryTalk View Studio you have installed.

Solution 1

Cause 2
The FactoryTalk Directory information for the current application is corrupt.

Solution 2
Import the application into a new project space by following 24488 - Import Machine Edition
Application (.MED) into FactoryTalk View Studio.

Cause 3
The users may have become corrupted - this in more common is FactoryTalk View ME 8.00 or newer

Solution 3
See 747744 - FactoryTalk View ME 8.00: Application fails to run in the Test Application Mode

Cause 4
The Private Directory is corrupt.

Note: The Private Directory is associated with FactoryTalk View Machine Edition version 8.0 or
greater.

Solution 4
Delete the PrivateDirectory folder for the application:

Note: Deleting the PrivateDirectory folder removes the RSLinx Enterprise Communication
configuration and Runtime Security settings.

C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\RSView Enterprise\ME\HMI projects\

<Application_Name>\PrivateDirectory

Before running the Test Application again, - Look at 747744 - FactoryTalk View ME 8.00: Application
fails to run in the Test Application Mode and make sure all users are correct.

Cause 5

Solution 5
These tags must be unique so that unique values can be read at runtime. Assign a different tag to one
of the fields. To do this:

1. Open the ME project in FactoryTalk View Studio.

2. Under the project name, navigate to System > Global Connections .
3. Click the Display tab. On this screen you can assign different tags to the Remote Display
Number and Close an On Top Display Global Connections.

493312 - FactoryTalk Machine Edition: Test Application Appears To Hang On "Starting Print Queue
Server"

Cause 6
An image had been copied and pasted, a .BMP from a PanelBuilder 32 program was directly pasted
into a RSView/FactoryTalk View Studio display. The name of the .BMP file was long and contained
underscores.

Solution 6
Delete the .BMP from RSView/FactoryTalk View Studio and read it from the .BMP file on the computer
to clear the error.

Cause 7
Invalid characters were used (non-alphanumeric characters) in the original PanelBuilder 32
application filename which are not supported for RSView/FactoryTalk View Machine Edition
applications.

Note: The import into RSView/FactoryTalk View Machine Edition will succeed without telling the user
of this invalid filename or invalid characters or extra spaces were included in display names within
the application.

Solution 7
Alter the name in PanelBuilder 32 (and references to the file) prior to the import, or alter the name in
RSView/FactoryTalk View Machine Edition (and references to the file) after importing.

Ensure no displays have special characters in their name and there are no spaces following the
display names, if there are, remove them and try to recompile.

An item that runs upon Startup (macro, initial graphic, parameter files, etc.) because the
MERuntime.exe is crashing once launched.

Solution 8
First to disable all items that are set to run upon Startup (other than the Alarms and Information
Messages checkboxes) and/or change the initial graphic.

Then enable them one by one to determine the cause, If you determine that the corrupted item resides
on the Initial graphic, delete the object and re-create it.

Note: In a particular case, the same Macro was assigned for project Startup Macro and for
the Default user Login Macro. Login Macro of Default user will be running at startup, so it is not
necessary to put it in project Startup Macro. Once the Startup Macro was disabled, the issue was
resolved.
