Question
How do I import an existing FactoryTalk View Machine Edition application (.MED) into FactoryTalk View Machine Edition?

Answer
Note: You must have the complete HMI project folder which includes the .MED and other files and folders. You can not import from the .MED file alone.

Do the following:

1. Create a new project and give it a unique name. Make sure you click the Import button (not the Create button).

2. You will receive a warning message as shown below. Click OK to continue.

3. Select FactoryTalk View Machine Edition Project (*.med). Click Next.

4. Browse for the project to import.

The FactoryTalk View ME HMI projects are located within the following path by default:

For Windows Vista / 7 / 8.1:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\RSView Enterprise\ME\HMI Projects

For Windows 2000 / XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\RSView Enterprise\ME\HMI projects

Although you can import your .med file from any location, make sure the HMI Project folder files are intact.

5. You will see files copying as your selected project starts to import. A Project Status window displays errors (if any).

6. Click OK; it will take a minute or two to finish importing the application.

Once the import is complete your application will be available in the Existing tab after opening FactoryTalk View ME.

Note: If you have applied the patch in 1059820 - Patch: Legacy ME Studio can't restore MER created later than V10, FactoryTalk View 6.10/7.0/8.0/8.10/8.20/9.00. Also
restore 5.0, 5.10, and 6.0 MER files on 64-bit OS (//rockwellautomation.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1059820), you will be capable of restoring projects
originally created on a 32-bit operating system into FactoryTalk View ME running on a 64-bit OS.
