Brothers of the Storm The Brothers of the Storm are a successor chapter of the revered Blood Angels.

Unlike many Blood Angle successor chapters, they can control their blood lust well, as a result of a stable gene seed. The future does not look so grim for the Brothers, or at least from the point of view of their Red Thirst. As each passing year goes on, their home world, Genesia, becomes less and less stable. Daemonic incursions often appear on Genesia, and titanic battles take place. The Brothers come to aid the Genesian people who lead massive armies into the heart of these Daemonic appearances. As a result, the Genesian people are more resistant to the empty promises and beckoning of Chaos Gods. Individually a battle-brother is known as a Spectre, while the chapter as a whole is often times referred to as the Brothers for short. Genesia Genesia is a very strange world. Its fury is comparable to that of Fenris, the home of the Space Wolves. Genesias appearance cannot truly be defined, as it changes quite often. A year on Genesia is over 900 standard Earth days, leading to exaggerated and seemingly eternal climate changes. It is best to describe the world in its four seasons. During the spring Genesia is almost enviable. It is covered in deep blue oceans that span its surface, with large continents that break it up. During the spring, there is lush vegetation that covers most of its continents. Around the cities of its primitive civilizations are lush green prairies, with massive groves of fruit trees. A cool breeze blows across grass fields as the nearby ocean waves break up into a white froth amongst white beaches. Life is easy and enjoyable during Genesias springs, and its people prosper. In fact, if it werent for Genesias other seasons it may have never been home to the Brothers, but instead, aggri-farmers. Everything changes during Genesias summers, as a result of its intense elliptical orbit of its fierce sun Infernus. In a matter of weeks of summers arrival, Genesia is transformed into an arid wasteland. The green grasses and fruitful trees have shriveled up into husks of their former beauty. Strong winds blow away these dehydrated corpses. The entireties of Genesias oceans evaporate into the atmosphere. The stratosphere contains the rippling body of water that once was Genesias oceans. The landmass of Genesia is arid, with a few massive mountains which was its former continents. The land is covered in jagged cliffs and plateaus. All vegetation is dried out and dead, becoming a golden husk. Strong winds whip up large sandstorms, beating the cliffs into grains of sand, disintegrating all vegetation. Genesia becomes hell during its summers, its temperatures become unbearable. The close proximity to its sun and magnification of sun rays through the ocean send the temperatures of Genesia to skyrocket and burn everything on its surface. Humans can die in minutes when exposed to the desert, and in unusually hot summers, combust spontaneously. Only the strongest survive Genesias summers, and as a result, every creature on that planet is tougher than the next. During the fall the temperature cools down massively, but becomes extremely humid due to the atmospheres mist. The water becomes stagnant as it slowly starts to refill the ocean bed, so many large swamps and bogs are formed. The entire planet becomes shrouded in a thick blanket of fog. In fall the vegetation finally begins to grow

back as sickly mangroves that populate estuaries. The mainland is covered in shrub bogs and basin swamps which are filled with swamp tupelos. Once winter starts the swamps and bogs are washed away as torrential downpour pelts Genesia. Rain is constant during the winter, so much that the oceans reform and storms are more than commonplace. There is so much rain that even the swamp trees are drowned and washed away into the sea. Only the cities remain, as they were built on sturdy rock beds that are not subject to even Genesias harsh rain. Genesia is cast into night for the entirety of the winter, and lightning fans out through the sky as it lashes into the oceans. Tempests subsume the oceans, and kraken wyrms thrive in the roiling seas, their horrifying figures illuminated by the intense lightning storms. Only until the rain stops and the day breaks do the Genesians know that peace has arrived to reward them, and that spring has begun. The Wildlife Every creature on Genesia is forced to be able to evolve and adapt very quickly in order to have a chance of surviving. Most creatures on Genesia are very unassuming herbivores, which provide Genesians a majority of their food. The creatures of the sea evolve constantly, but most are amphibious, in order to cope with the seasons. Once the ocean is gone, they burrow into a complex system of salt tunnels underground to stay cool, and they hibernate for the entirety of summer. In the fall, they live in compact ecosystems at the bottom of swamps in order to remain unseen from the wyrms. During the summer the land dwelling reptiles thrive due to their impossible metabolisms and diets. These reptiles are all carnivores, which will gorge on a human when they get the chance. But unfortunately for them, this chance comes very infrequently, so they are forced to eat the only thing to eat; rocks. These creatures bodies have adapted in the only possible way, and as a result, can find nourishment on just the nutrients contained in rocks. These reptiles usually stay underground in tunnels near the volcanoes of Genesia during the winter to stay warm, but during summer the climate is perfect for them. Of these reptiles, one species stands out among the rest; the Genesian Wyrm. The Genesian Wyrm These wyrms are the bane of man. They never rest during a single season during the year, so Genesians must remain ever-vigilant in order to survive against them. Over centuries of combating wyrms the Genesians have not been able to gain any valuable knowledge on killing them, as no two wyrms are the same. They vary in size and shape due to their evolving capabilities, but regardless are massive carnivores of gargantuan proportions. A Genesian Wyrm may be as long as a quarter mile, larger depending if it is an ancient. Genesian Wyrms have the strongest ability of adaptation of any creature in the universe, even more dynamic than Tyranids. These Genesian Wyrms transform very often, usually a few times a month. These changes are often major changes, such as the ability to fly, breathe fire, or teleport. During the summer they gain a tougher carapace, so that they arent affected at all by sandstorms. In fall they will often times burrow through the soft, moist earth in order to launch devastating surprise attacks on their prey. In winter they usually take form of a kraken or serpent in order to live in the oceans, although some prefer to fly through the sky and channel lightning through their bodies. In spring they have no similarities in evolution, as any ability can be useful to them. They are one of the two things that keep the human population in check, the other is Genesia itself. One wyrm alone can cause havoc in a city, but they are never alone. They always

hunt in packs of at least three, all with varying forms of adaptations in order to decimate their prey. These creatures only have one creature above them on the food chain, and that is the Space Marine. The Brothers have used Genesian Wyrm DNA to assist them with fighting the Red Thirst, so occasionally a Space Marine is produced that can psychically communicate and control wyrms. The Storms In Genesia there are two types of storms. In summer there are sand storms, which usually rage throughout the entirety of summer. Theses storms are caused from the front that occurs because of the ocean. The ocean has an endothermic reaction with the atmosphere, which causes huge fronts with the hot winds of Genesia. These result in impossibly strong sand storms that ravage Genesia, in their fury they strip rock down with ease, let alone the flesh of a man. It is said that you have a better chance of surviving a point-blank gunshot to the head than ten minutes in a Genesian sand storm. The only creatures able to roam Genesia during the storms are Genesian Wyrms and the Brothers of the Storm. The Brothers use this storm as a cloak to be able to appear then disappear in moments, like the muzzle flash of a gun in a dark room. In winter there are tempests, making the ocean the deadliest place to be during the winter. The rainstorms that take place replenish the oceans which evaporated during summer, so there is no shortage of rain. Along with intense downpours there are freak lightning storms and hurricanes that prevent Genesians from using ships. The wyrms live in the oceans during winter, taking on a kraken or serpent form. They are the only creatures that can survive roiling tidal waves and lightning bolts that take place on the surface of the ocean. Because the oceans are largely uninhabited in winter, the Brothers use it extensively for training Stormraven pilots. Marines often times train on the water too, to build a sense of comradery and unity in squads so that they can act as one in war. The Genesian Populous The inhabitants of Genesia are very simple warrior people. Their culture and government is a fusion of Greek and Roman customs. Their aesthetics are similarly impacted as well. They live in large cities strewn about the continents of Genesia. Each city is ruled by a governor, who in turn reports to the elder council that leads them. These elders receive psychic messages from their God on rulings and laws, and their word is law. Armies are always being built up, and Daemon-slaying techniques are refined and mastered amongst the Genesian soldiers. Once a Daemonic threat is confirmed, these massive armies are combined and led to destroy the Daemonic presence, often with the aid of the Brothers of the Storm and occasionally Grey Knights. Besides these titanic battles, the people among Genesia are peaceful among one another. They truly believe in and fear their God, after all, if such mysterious and awe-inspiring soldiers descend from the heavens to aid them against Daemons, then their God must truly love to defend the people. Brothers of the Storm The Brothers of the Storm is a third founding chapter of the Blood Angels chapter. It is a relatively important planet in the Genesian sector that protects many merchant trade routes from Chaos. Thousands of years ago Slaaneshs birth screams tore open giant warp rifts in space, and left many areas teetering on the edge of opening into a roiling warp storm. Because of this, there is a large Daemonic presence in the Genesian

sector, and the Brothers often find themselves staving off full blown Daemonic invasions by the skin of their teeth. The Brothers of the Storm have a very similar chapter organization as the Blood Angels, many assault squads are deployed with large land speeder squadrons. The Brothers stress a speedy and precise insertion with an even speedier and efficient victory. Often times, their presence in an area is unknown of, and the only proof of their intervention is large mounds of enemy corpses. The Brothers of the Storm utilize erratic weather conditions or camouflage when at all possible to make themselves that much more efficient. The Shroud This is the head of operations for the Brothers, a large fortress hidden away on Genesia, a place that nobody will find. It is a massive fortress constructed of bunkers, monasteries, arsenals, and forges. Its confines occupy a large network of canyons, tunnels, and gorges. The Shroud does not appear to be very large, but that is because most of it is hidden away and protected from the intense weather that Genesia is known for. The Wargear The condition of all of the wargear of the Brothers often appears to be in shabby condition. This is in fact quite the opposite, as delicate technology is inspected with the utmost attention to detail. The beaten and weathered appearance of the wargear used by the Brothers is prized by them. They care not for ostentatious and shiny wargear, but wargear that will camouflage into the background and tell a story of each Space Marines whereabouts. Often times higher ranking Space Marines are not identified by their rankings displayed on their armor, but by the raged, rusted, and beaten look of their armor. The tanks used by the Brothers is exactly the same, they are completely ridden with rust marks, dents, scratches, and bullet holes. As long as the appearance of wargear does not affect its performance, it will not be cleaned for cosmetically repaired. The Lore To the people, the Brothers are known as the Specters and for a good reason too. The Brothers often times send scouts to keep an eye on the Genesian cities, which is often times a perfect time to learn how to slip in and out of storms unseen. This often times leads to eerie sightings of large strange men standing in the middle of a sandstorm watching Genesian towns, and then vanishing in the blink of an eye. Genesians believe these men to be the ghosts of men lost in battle watching over them, and essentially they are right. Men are recruited into the ranks of the Brothers through battle. Warriors are not solely chosen because of battle prowess, but through their character as well. Men who perform self sacrifice to save many others in battles against Daemons are swiftly retrieved by Sanguinary Priests, their rent and torn bodies on the brink of death are returned to the Shroud, to begin the training to become a Spectre. The Gene Seed Unfortunately the Brothers of the Storm have a flawed gene seed, as do all blood Angel successor chapters. Their gene seed is not very unstable, due to research of the Genesian Wyrms. Sanguinary Priests have been testing concentrated amounts of Genesian Wyrm pheromones with gene seeds in an attempt to use the wyrms evolving DNA to cure The Flaw. Fortunately the wyrm DNA has slowed down The Flaw, and severely lowered its presence among the chapter. If the Red Thirst is cured completely, the Brothers plan on sharing it among all scions of Sanguinius.

The Red Thirst Unlike many Blood Angel successor chapters, the Brothers have a large amount of control over their Red Thirst. This is partly due to the research of their gene seed, but also because the Brothers practice a great amount of self-control and discipline. They do not ignore their thirst and keep it locked up inside forever, but merely restrain themselves from indulgence until the right time has presented itself. This is evident with their extensive use of camouflage and cover. They hide in storms or cover, unleashing devastating hit and run blows with pin point precision until the time is right. Once the enemy is in disarray and confusion, the Brothers strike with an unprecedented brutality and fervor. The Phantoms The Death Company of the Brothers of the Storm are individually referred to as phantoms as homage to their former glory. Despite advances in a cure for the Black Rage, the Brothers of the Storm still must face it. When a Spectre is admitted into the Death Company, he takes on new wargear. Leaving all of his old equipment behind, he is given an ornate suit of ash colored power armor, as well as a matching crimson bolt pistol and combat weapon. This new suit of power armor allows the Crucible organ, a unique organ to the Brothers, to function when activated. After a battle, any surviving Death Company are gathered by the governing Chaplain and led through his last rites and litanies. Once the Phantoms have been prayed for, they are considered to have been purified and cleansed, and ready for their true moment of liberation. The Chaplain then activates the Death Companys crucible organs, causing them to spontaneously combust. Their suit of power armor falls to the ground, as their ashes are swept away by the wind. The Riders Due to a change in their gene seed, there are occasional adepts who have a special ability to control Genesian Wyrms. They can communicate telepathically with the Wyrms, and can tame any Wyrm within an instant. These adepts are called Riders, because these Space Marines ride Genesian Wyrms to war. Riders have the ability to change the Wyrms evolvements on will, creating a very devastating and dynamic weapon. The Riders spend many countless hours bonding with, training, and learning how to use the wyrms as an extension of their bodies.
