Algeria is a vast country. It covers an area of 2,381.741 square kilometers. Algeria’s vast
landscape is endowed with a variety of ecosystems which contains a number of national parks.
Tlemcen national park is one of them which is located in the north-west region of Algeria,
near the city of Tlemcen . The national park covers an area of 985, 32 sq km. It has been
designated by UNESCO as a biosphere in 2016. It has a rich biodiversity.
The biosphere reserve contains a diverse flora with over 1.130 plant species, 40 of them
are protected like the Montpellier maple, the Atlas pistachio, the green oak and the Thuya.
Also, it is a home to 141 animal species (fauna), including 100 different species of birds. So,
this reserve needs great care and protection.
