Introduction
Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you read this information and you understand this information.

The J400/P400 connector has been removed from the engine wiring harness for the On-highway truck. The J400/P400 connector was used to connect an engine timing calibration
probe to the Electronic Control Module (ECM).

A 170-3519
Timing Calibration Harness Assembly is now available. The 170-3519
Timing Calibration Harness Assembly is made from the following components: 2 Pin Deutsch connector and wire. The 170-3519
Timing Calibration Harness Assembly must be temporarily installed in order to perform a timing calibration procedure.

Installation
1. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.

Note: The J2/P2 ECM connector may need to be disconnected in order to remove the sealing plugs. Do not discard the sealing plugs. The sealing plugs must be reinstalled
when the timing calibration procedure is complete.

2. Remove the sealing plug from P2:22 (Timing Calibration Positive). Remove the sealing plug from P2:23 (Timing Calibration Negative).

3. Reinstall the connector after removing the sealing plugs. Tighten the connector to 6.0 N·m (55 lb in).

Note: Ensure that the wires are installed into the correct connector terminal. Engine performance will be adversely affected if the polarity of the wires is reversed.

4. Install the white wire of the 170-3519

Timing Calibration Harness Assembly into P2:22 (Timing Calibration Positive).

5. Install the yellow wire of the 170-3519

Timing Calibration Harness Assembly into P2:23 (Timing Calibration Negative).

6. Connect the engine timing calibration probe to 2 Pin Deutsch connector of the 170-3519
Timing Calibration Harness Assembly . Proceed with the timing calibration procedure that is found in Troubleshooting Guide, "Engine Speed/Timing Sensor - Calibrate".

7. You may remove the harness, or you may permanently install the harness for future use. If you remove the harness from the P2 ECM engine harness connector, reinstall the
sealing plugs into the unused cavities of the P2 connector. If you choose to permanently install the harness, you will need to fasten the harness to the existing engine wiring
harness with cable ties. Also, you will need to install a 3E-3364
Receptacle Assembly and two 8T-8737
Seal Plugs on the P400 timing calibration probe connector in order to prevent moisture and debris from entering the connector.
Note: The ECM will be susceptible to moisture and contamination if the sealing plugs are not installed.

Optional Procedure for Installation

The timing calibration procedure can also be performed by connecting the 170-3519
Timing Calibration Harness Assembly to the P1 ECM vehicle harness connector.

Note: Different terminal connections are required if the 170-3519

Timing Calibration Harness Assembly is connected to the P1 ECM vehicle harness connector.

1. Install the white wire of the 170-3519

Timing Calibration Harness Assembly into P1:24 (Timing Calibration Positive).

2. Install yellow wire of the 170-3519

Timing Calibration Harness Assembly into P1:25 (Timing Calibration Negative).

Note: The timing calibration procedure can also be performed by installing a 170-3519
Timing Calibration Harness Assembly into a 135-5063
Service Tool Harness Bypass or a 167-9225
Service Tool Harness Bypass . The service tool harness bypass must be connected to the P1 ECM vehicle harness connector in order to perform the timing calibration procedure.
The 170-3519
Timing Calibration Harness Assembly can remain in the service tool harness bypass after use.
