Abstract
Effective communication skills are vital for academic, professional, and personal
success in today’s globalized society. This study investigates the communication skills
of grade 11 students who are studying in English as an International Medium (EIM)
context. The research focuses on assessing the proficiency of these students in various
aspects of communication, including English language proficiency, interpersonal
communication, and presentation skills.
The study also examines the factors that influence communication skill
development among grade 11 EIM students, including educational background,
exposure to English language media, and socio-cultural factors. Drawing upon theories
of communicative competence and sociolinguistics, the research provides insights into
the complexities involved in language acquisition and proficiency in an EIM context.
The implications of this study are significant for educators, policymakers, and
other stakeholders involved in language education. By understanding the
communication needs and challenges faced by grade 11 EIM students, educators can
design targeted intervention and support mechanisms to enhance their communication
competence.
