Advanced English Phonetics Course

The Advanced English Phonetics Course sheds light on topics that and help
students to develop their pronunciation and sound like native speakers. The course
is designed for advanced English language learners of different academic
background. It comprises of 10 lectures and sheds light on the following topics:

 Introduction to the Course: Give students general information about the


International Phonetics Alphabet (IPA), consonants and vowels in English.
 Voiced and Voiceless Consonants: correcting students’ pronunciation and
encourage them to use transcription to represent words.
 Vowels in English: Students understand long vowels, short vowels,
triphthongs and diphthongs in English language and apply them through
transcription.
 Stress in English words: students study stress, syllables and their
importance in English words.
 Enriching Vocabulary: Learning new words and use them in classes to
ensure correct pronunciation and stress position.
 Listening classes: Let students practice listening through training classes on
native speaker’s conversations to enhance pronunciation.
 Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics: Train students on different linguistic
terms such as Syntax, Semantics, Pragmatics, phonology, synonyms,
antonyms, hyponymy, homophones, homonyms, metonymy, morphology,
phonemes and their importance in the language.
 Types of English Sentences: Students study simple sentence, compound
sentence, complex sentences and compound complex sentence in English
language and apply them in a text.
 Parts of Speech: students study parts of speech in English; verb, noun,
pronoun, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, articles and
interjections.
 References: Provide students with references required for mastering English
language.
