Driver Operator
Skills Packet

2004
All certified Driver Operators have until 1700 hours on
November 12th to complete this packet and return it to
the Training Division. Thank You.
Greetings PFA D/Os,

Attached is the 2004 DO Skills Packet. As usual, this

packet will need to be returned to Training Division no
later that 1700 hours on November 12th to maintain your
D/O Tech. rate. The packet and the Hydraulic problems
should offer no surprises as they are skills we should be
able to do every day.

The D/O skills days are scheduled in May and will be

conducted at the pump pit. We will be doing a multi
level pumping problem very similar to the pumping
portion of the D/O Test. This will be a good chance to
work the engines and think on our feet.

Other skills this year are to review and pump to Truck 1

or 2. Please take the time and go over the trucks
operating needs and capabilities while you are with
them. In the event of a drought this summer and the
need to conserve water we will have an alternate skill to
replace this in the form of the brush truck review.

We would also like the D/Os to visit us out here at

training and run through the Rodeo course in their
engines. While this is limited in its realism, it does
improve skills in knowing just where your engine will
and will not go.

And last but not least we have a foam calculation

problem to go along with reviewing the foam capability
of your engine. This along with the Hydraulic problems
should be a good mind exercise. Have fun!

Solve The Following Foam Application Problem

1. Circular Spill, 20” in diameter of Methanol.

GPM application Rate?
Total gallonage of foam solution?
Required foam concentrate?

Would you be able to handle this with the amount and type of foam
concentrate you carry on your engine? If not why?

2. Circular spill, 15’ in diameter of gasoline

GPM application rate?
Total gallonage of foam solution?
Required foam concentrate?

Would you be able to handle this with amount and type of foam
concentrate you carry on your engine? If not why?

3. Circular spill 30’ in diameter, of diesel fuel on fire.

GPM application rate?
Total gallonage of foam concentrate?
Required foam concentrate?

Would you be able to handle this with the amount and type of foam
carried on your engine? If not why?

4. Circular spill 10’ in diameter, of refined oil at the foot of a 25’

diameter tank of refined oil on fire.
