TOPIC 1 MAINTENANCE

UNIT 1 Understand the maintenance System

DEFINITION OF MAINTENANCE

Combination between technical process and administration To detect and eliminate (prevent) all wrong process or failure to function in an electronic equipment To ensure that equipment in the system functioning as the implementation of the necessary planning/reaches maximum level in the electronic equipment

Examples of Activities Maintenance (electrical/electronic equipment)

Identify where the source of problem in a system Correct and check all error according to specification that has been planned to be easy maintained properly.. Routine of motor maintenance carbon brush examination, bearing, commutator and operating temperature Adjust regulators according to the exact performance. Conduct inspection to determine sizing errors for each equipment Examination of power transmission according to the requirement. Recording data on operating a system such as speed, current reading, voltage and so on.

OBJECTIVE OF MAINTENANCE

Can update system of equipment or machine. Can reduce risk of damage to the equipment that maintained. Improve quality and value of equipment to the maximum level. Enhance durability of equipment that maintained. Make it easier to identify damages to equipment that maintained. Able to produce and estimate minimum costs for equipment that maintained (reduce costs) Can expect lifetime the machine that maintained (long lifetime)

Repair Maintenance (Emergency Maintenance)

Maintenance Schedule

Term and maintenance policy

Prevention Maintenance To minimize the chance occurrence failure in the system Repair Maintenance Maintenance done after the occurrence of a malfunction in the equipment or machine Emergency maintenance Maintenance is needed to repair a machine or equipment is immediately to avoid more serious consequences Take some time which is more than a day Term and Maintenance Policy Is preventive maintenance starting from decision of discussion on condition all item must be repeated (routine) and continuous monitoring process

Differences between Prevention Maintenance and Repair Maintenance

?
Prevention Maintenance Repair Maintenance Low cost minor breakdown Take short time Maybe high cost-major breakdown Take long time

Maintenance Schedule
Is

a complete schedule More concentrated preventive maintenance schedule include timing, day , number of operation, maintained process, technique, technical control and others. With the planning system, minimum cost can be determined and used as a provision for an electronic equipment and machine.

Benefit/advantages if there is maintenance schedule

?
1. 2. 3. 4. Reference to new worker Maintenance work run smoothly As reminder when need maintenance Reference to know what material needed and that material can prepare early

Relationship between minimum cost and system with and without planning

Machine Lifetime

Machine lifetime usually not fixed which is depend on several factors : Type of machine or equipment Where it used Method and types of preventive maintenance done on the machine which must follow correct procedure Scheduled maintenance of the system should be established to ensure all equipment always maintained. Temperature change factor Humidity level Chemical environmental condition Method the use - less maintained by the user and maybe there are an offence usage

Factor that reduce the lifetime of machine
