Welcome!
I hope you will enjoy the creation of this little baby duck! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any
questions that you may have along the way. Have fun!

Materials You Will Need:

Crochet hook size: G/4.25mm
Worsted weight yarn: yellow, orange
Yarn needle
One pair of 12 mm safety eyes (also called shank back eyes; they are sold at Etsy, Walmart, your local
craft store, Amazon, ebay, etc.)
Note: The safety eyes are highly recommended, but they can be substituted with black buttons or yarn
if you prefer
Polyester fiber fill stuffing

Final measurement for the finished duckling will be 5½ inches tall.

Abbreviations:
ch(s) – chain/chains
sc – single crochet
sts – stitches
dec – sc decrease st*

*Single crochet decrease stitch explanation:

Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that there are now 2 loops on
the hook. Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that there are now 3
loops on the hook. Yarn over again and pull the loop of yarn through all 3 loops on the hook.

Head
With yellow yarn:
Round 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch. (6 sts)
R2: Sc 2 in each sc around. (12 sts)
R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next sc), 6 times. (18 sts)
R4: (Sc 2, 2 sc in next sc), 6 times. (24 sts)
R5: (Sc 3, 2 sc in next sc), 6 times. (30 sts)
R6: (Sc 4, 2 sc in next sc), 6 times. (36 sts)
R7: (Sc 5, 2 sc in next sc), 6 times. (42 sts)
R8: (Sc 6, 2 sc in next sc), 6 times. (48 sts)
R9-14: Sc 48. (6 total rows)
R15: (Sc 6, dec 1), 6 times. (42 sts)
R16: (Sc 5, dec 1), 6 times. (36 sts)
R17: (Sc 4, dec 1), 6 times. (30 sts)
R18: (Sc 3, dec 1), 6 times. (24 sts)
R19: (Sc 2, dec 1), 6 times. (18 sts)
R20: (Sc 1, dec 1), 6 times. (12 sts)

Here, firmly stuff the head. Then, place the 12mm eyes between R15 and 16 on the head, with about 7
sts between. Firmly put the washers onto the backs of the eyes.
To finish the head,
R21: (Dec 1), 6 times. (6 sts)

Fasten off. Weave in end.

Note: By “weave in end,” I mean take the needle and push it through the part of the body you're
working on and out the other side. Cut off extra yarn so that the end is hidden inside the head, body,
limbs, etc.

Beak
With orange yarn,
R1: Ch 7, turn, sc 6.
R2: Ch 1, turn, sc 6.
R3-9: Repeat R2. (7 total rows)

Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing. Fold the orange rectangle you now have in half and using
your yarn needle and yarn tail, sew shut all around the edges. Bend this square into a slight semi-circle
and sew between the duckling's eyes. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Body
With yellow yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch. (6 sts)
R2: Sc 2 in each sc around. (12 sts)
R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next sc), 6 times. (18 sts)
R4: (Sc 2, 2 sc in next sc), 6 times. (24 sts)
R5: (Sc 3, 2 sc in next sc), 6 times. (30 sts)
R6-11: Sc 30. (6 total rows)
R12: (Sc 3, dec 1), 6 times. (24 sts)
R13: (Sc 2, dec 1), 6 times. (18 sts)
R14: (Sc 1, dec 1), 6 times. (12 sts)
R15: (Dec 1), 6 times. (6 sts)

Fasten off. Leave long tail for sewing. Stuff body firmly. Sew the body onto the head.

Wings (make 2)
With yellow yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 4 sc in first ch. (4 sts)
R2: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next sc), 14 times. (You will now have 18 sts around.)
R3: (Sc 2, dec 1), 6 times. (You will now have 12 sts around.)
R4: (Sc 1, dec 1), 3 times. (9 sts)
R5: Sc 9.

Fasten off and leave yarn tail to sew to body. Do not stuff the wings. Sew to either side of the body.
Weave in ends.
Legs (make 2)
With orange yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch. (6 sts)
R2: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next sc), 3 times (9 sts)
R3-9: Sc 9. (7 total rows)

Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing. I did not
stuff my legs because I wanted them to lay flat so
the duckling would sit up more easily. Make the
feet before sewing the legs to the body...

Feet (make 2)
With orange yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 4 sc in first ch. (4 sts)
R2: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next sc), 8 times. (You will now
have 12 sts around)
R3-4: Sc 12. (2 total rows)

Now, flatten the foot so that the crochet hook is at

one edge. To create the webbed toes, you will be
crocheting through both layers:

R5: Ch 1, turn, 3 sc in first st, sc 3 in next 3 sts, 3

sc in next st, sc 3 in next 3 sts, 3 sc in final st.

Fasten off and weave in end. Sew each foot to the end of each leg. Now sew the legs to the bottom
of the duckling's body.

Tuft
Take short strands of yellow yarn and use your crochet hook to pull them through a stitch at the top of
the head, right around R1 of the head. Tie in a knot. I did 4 different strands and then tied them together
in knots as well.

And there you go, you are done! Thank you so much for joining me in making a cute little duckling!
Enjoy!
