FOREWORD

For more than 50 years Ledeen has

been engaged in the design and
manufacturing of fluid powered
actuators for utilization in gas pipelines.
The product illustrated in this catalogue
is the result of experience we gained
through the years from the thousands of
actuators installed and functioning in
almost every country in the world.
The product is therefore the outcome
of well thought out technical choices
that we will endevour to outline in the
following pages.
F THE PRODUCT-

When, 10 years ago, we began to study

this new generation of actuators, we

.IJ
decided to include a response to all those

technical requisites we had come across

during our long professional design life. r

I
- We have conceived an actuator with all I

components capable of withstanding the

high pressure normally found in gas

pipelines.
- The design and the selection of the valve misalignements occur.

materials have been aimed at obtaining - We have introduced the concept of

an actuator capable of being fully efficient modularity in order to reduce the

for long periods even in cases of little maintenance time and effort, specially in

maintenance or no maintenance at all. hostile environments.

The fabricated structure makes the

actuator insensitive to the thermal swings

whilst its accessories, built in hard

anodized aluminium, are practically

This is to avoid that, with the aging for an easier setting of the "Open" and

of the equipment, undesiderable "Closed" position of the valve.

The frame, totally weather proof, is fitted

with a relief valve venting any over

pressure which might occur (e.g. a gas

leakage through the valve stem).

All the internal moving parts are mounted

on bronze bearings for the purpose of

reducing the friction and extending

equipment life.

The hydraulic cylinder, built in carbon

steel, is equipped with a mechanical stop

stroke. The piston seal consists of a

sleeve of self-lubricant material for the

purpose of improving its efficiency and

acting as a guide.
Two gas-over oil tanks are fitted to the

frame by means of sturdy supports; their

corrosion or dirt.
The local and remote control are obtained

through a double 3/2 solenoid valve.

This valve, designed to work with a

pressure of 120 kg/cm2 is built in an

anodized aluminium block. The inner parts
are in PTFE and stainless steel.

Thanks to its special features this valve can

be operated with an electrical supply of less

than 16 Wand it is suitable for environment

temperatures from -60° to +110° C.

The electric coils are housed in

certified in accordance with CSA and

to CENELEC standards (Eex-d-IIC-T5). The

valve is provided with a manual override for

local operation and it is manifold mounted

to a sub-plate in order to reduce the

number of pipes and fittings to a minimum.

The other side of the sub-plate holds the

gas conditioning unit. This consists of a

which is to dehydrate the gas. Thanks to

this system, the gas operating the

actuator is always clean and dry.

An explosion proof microswitch box is

installed on the actuator; it contains the

travel limit switches necessary for

signalling the valve position and for

de-energizing the solenoid valve. The box

is built in accordance to the CSA

IP66. The local dial position indicator is

built-in on the microswitch box cover.

A hydraulic hand pump allows the

manual operation of the actuator in case

of gas failure. A rotary valve is provided

for the selection of the operating mode
