Today, you will be testing your 3M + R skills using Skittles! You will be collecting data about
the number of skittles you have in each color. There will be four rounds of scavenging for
Skittles—follow the directions below to learn more!

*If your Mean is a decimal, please round it to the nearest whole number. *

Mean: The average number of each color in your bag(s)


Median: The middle number of candies of each color in your bag (s)
Mode: The number of colors that occurs the most in your bag(s)
Range: The difference between the highest amount of one color occurring and the lowest
amount

Round 1: Your Data Collection

Round 2: Partner Data Collection


Now, choose a partner and exchange data. Write down the number of each Skittle color they
have in their bag. Then, write the total number of Skittles your partner has.

data. (Hint: to find the Mean, you may need to divide by 10)

Round 3: Group Data Collection

Now, combine your group with another group and collect data from each of them. First, write
your data and your partner’s data, and then add the data from each person in the group you
paired up with.

find your Mean, Median, Mode, and Range. (For example, if your group members had 21 red

EXTENSION

When you have completed all four rounds of “scavenging,” complete a graph with
your data from round three. Your graph should display the total number of each
color of Skittles for your entire group of four. Each group of four should create
a name and label your graph appropriately. Please be sure the name of your
group is on the graph.
