FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What if I cannot provide all of these documents?

We can lodge your application even if some of your documents are not currently available. However,
this may delay the DOHA’s processing of your application. Where possible, please provide all of the
documents listed above that are relevant to your situation.

How should I send you my documents?

Client Portal: Please provide scanned copies of all of your documents via the Portal, using the login
instructions provided in our initial email. Do NOT send documents through emails.
When uploading scanned copies of your documents, please ensure that:
• they are saved in PDF format, rather than JPEG or any other format (if possible);
• they are in colour, where the original document is in colour;
• there is a MAXIMUM of one document per scanned page (e.g. do not scan two different
passports onto one page).
• Make sure that each file has a size of no more than 4MB.

Can the information I provide be disclosed to any other Government agencies or third parties?
When you lodge an application with the DOHA, you thereby consent to the DOHA disclosing certain
information that you have provided (including your personal information) to other Government
agencies, where such disclosure is permitted or authorised by the relevant legislation (e.g. the
Border Force Act).
For example, disclosure may be required to verify the authenticity of documents provided in support
of an application or to authenticate your identity; for data matching purposes; or to administer or
enforce the law (including migration law). This could include sharing information with the Fair Work
Ombudsman, Australian Taxation Office and other agencies or third parties to check that you are
complying with the conditions of your visa, and that your employer sponsor is meeting their
sponsorship obligations.
Please refer to the DOHA’s Privacy notice (https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/form-
listing/forms/1442i.pdf) for full details regarding the circumstances in which information may be
disclosed to other Government agencies or persons. We recommend that you read this document
carefully, and contact us if you have any further questions.

Do I need a skills assessment? If so, what is the relevant assessing authority for my nominated
occupation?
The DOHA requires certain applicants to obtain a skills assessment. This is used to determine
whether or not the applicant is sufficiently skilled to be employed in the nominated position in
Australia. Applicants who are required to undertake a skills assessment must commence this process
prior to lodging a subclass 482 visa application.
Currently skills assessments are required where an applicant is nominated for a position in the
trades, and is relying upon an overseas qualification and/or work experience to meet the skill
requirement for that position. Applicants nominated for the positions of Project and Program
Administrator or Specialist Manager are also required to obtain skills assessments. The DOHA is able
to use its discretion to request skills assessments from applicants nominated for other positions, if
this is deemed necessary during processing of the relevant application.
The DOHA specifies which assessing authorities are able to conduct skills assessments for each
occupation. If you do not already have a suitable skills assessment, we can provide advice on which
authority to approach for your assessment. If needed, we are also able to prepare and lodge your
skills assessment application with the relevant assessing authority. An additional professional fee
applies for this service – please contact us for further details.

Do I need to have a health examination?

The DOHA requires visa applicants from certain countries to undergo a chest x-ray (and, in some
instances, a medical examination). We will advise you if you are required to have any health
examinations based on the DOHA’s current criteria.

How can I show that I meet the English language requirements?

If you hold a valid passport issued by the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland
(and you are a citizen of that country), you do not need to provide further evidence of your English
language ability.
If you do NOT hold a passport from one of these countries, and you are not otherwise exempt from
the English language requirement*, you must show that you have achieved one of the following
results in a test carried out within the three years PRIOR to lodging your visa application. The results
required will vary depending upon the stream in which your application will be lodged:
