The StatAdvisor This procedure is designed to compare a set of data against a set of specifications. The goal of the analysis is to estimate the proportion of the population from which that data come which falls outside the specification limits. In this case, a Normal distribution was fit to a set of 132 observations in the variable Result1. 0.0180414% of the fitted distribution lies outside the specification limits. If the Normal distribution is appropriate for the data, this estimates the percent of the population which lies outside the spec. To determine whether the Normal distribution is appropriate for this data, select Goodness-of-Fit Tests from the list of Tabular Options. You can assess the fit visually by selecting Capability Plot from the list of Graphical Options.

One common index is Pp, which in the case of the normal distribution equals the distance between the specification limits divided by 6 times the standard deviation. In this case, Pp equals 1.30158, which is usually considered to be okay. Ppk is a one-sided capability index, which in the case of the normal distribution divides the distance from the mean to the nearer specification limit by 3 times the standard deviation. In this case, Ppk equals 1.19508. Since capability indices are statistics, they will vary from one sample of data to another. The 95.0% confidence intervals show how much these statistics might vary from the true values given the fact that only 132 observations were taken.
