Script Concept: ‘Neon Arcadia’

Written by Tee Rowe

The opening scene previews a wide shot of an arcadic scene. Three

arcade machines take centre presence, with the left and right being
completely void of colour (black) suggesting the ‘out of order’
right passage which is mostly common. However, the middle machine is
where the scenes unfold therefore its brightly lit. There is a
steady playing of background music: Call me Blondie (which continues
all throughout the film)

The audio ‘Choose your character’ is played over the prominent

background music.

There is a transition shot- where there is a dramatic zoom in on the

active machine, which voids the other machines from being present in
the shot. The shot type changes to a medium, and stays at this type
for the whole duration of the film.

It’s here is where the arcadic theme and the 1980s intertwine. The
selected 1980s ‘legends’ are presented in their ‘Top Trumps’
inspired card form. Displaying artist picture, name, gender, grammys
won, album sales and years active.

On screen begin to shuffle between themselves, four seconds between

each one. And a common ‘ding’ sound affecting playing in the
foreground when the transitions between artists take place (with a
total of 11 artists on rotation) With the above title ‘1980s
Legends’ colour changing with the prospective texts that the artists
names/titles correspond with.

The selecting feature follows this same format, however once the
artists Prince and Michael Jackson’s are shown, there is a back and
forth selecting feature between them (meant to mimic the incisive
nature of not being able to choose between them)

A new text format appears at the bottom ‘1 Player’ and then going
back to the other artist ‘2 Player’ with the animation style
alluding they were both picked.

Following there is a transition where the arcade template is still

present however the background has changed and the other artist
cards in rotation are no longer present. The two former pics of the
artist ‘flip in a swift transition’ and are replaced by different.

Its then a mouse (subject to change) goes back and forth between the
artists and settles on one.

Here the audio changes with a animation of a record being opened and
this is followed by a compilation type of edit for this particular
artist, showcasing their 1980s ‘best bits’.

This is repeated for the second artist.

The ending will revert back to the ‘undecided’ format with both
artists ‘cards’ being shuffled on screen.

This where the audience will have the input on which artist they
‘prefer’.

The End.
