Introduction

Introduction

The brake diagram manual complements the

compressed air diagrams and contains
information required to read and understand
them.
The booklet comprises a list of components
with information on the components in the
compressed air system. The information covers
the designation, description, function and
symbol of each of the components. There is
also a figure illustrating the component.
Finally, the booklet contains the position
configuration. It illustrates an example of
where the components can be positioned in a
bus.

Layout of the compressed air diagram

The compressed air diagram consists of a

skeleton diagram with symbols for the various
components. It shows only how the various
components are connected to one another, not
where the components are located or how the
compressed air lines are routed in the chassis.
Pipe connections and joints are not displayed in
the diagram either.
The compressed air diagrams for bus are
divided into boxes called diagram modules.
Each module illustrates a section of the
compressed air system in the bus. Depending
on fitted equipment, several modules, which
illustrate the same section of the compressed
air system, can be included in the same
diagram. The modules are therefore
alternatives to each other.
The designations used to identify the
components in the compressed air diagram are
the same as those for the electrical system for
groups B, H, N, O, T, U and V. In order to
differentiate in the other groups the
designations in the compressed air diagram
start with no. 900.

Beside each symbol is a designation, which can

also can be found in the list of components in
this booklet. Components may have the same
symbol but different designations. This happens
when a distinction of a particular feature needs
to be made in the diagram.
Example
The task of a safety valve is always to open if
the pressure in a circuit becomes too high. For
this reason, the symbol for safety valve in the
diagram is always the same. However, a valve
that opens at 14.3 bar has the designation D910,
while one that opens at 19 bar is designated as
D911 (see figure)

Layout of the compressed air diagram

Each line in the diagram has a line marking

which consists of three characters, two letters
and one digit, and information about line
diameter. The first letter in the marking indicates
which main circuit the line belongs to. The
second letter is selected in alphabetical order.
The third character, the digit, is selected in
running order to distinguish between lines in the
same line section.

Example
Designation MA1-16 indicates that it is a line
which belongs to the supply circuit and runs
from the compressor to the rubber hose. Its
diameter is 16 mm. MA2-16 runs from the
rubber hose to the cooling coil. These markings
are explained in more detail in booklet 10:02-58,

connection is intended for. The designation for
Intake is normally 1. If there are two intakes, 21
they are designated 11 and 12. Outlet is 1
normally designated 2; if there are several they
receive the numbers 21, 22, 23 etc. Number 3 is
a vent and 4 a connection for control air. Buses
also have 5 which is the outlet to exhaust brake,
white smoke limiter.
