A well-constructed CV could be the difference between getting

an interview for your dream job or not

Tailor your CV - Once you have a basic CV, you should tailor it
for each role you apply for. It takes just a few minutes and
demonstrates to the employer that you have researched the
company and looked at the job description the employer has
taken time to write.

Applications forms are a popular method of

assessing a person’s candidature for a particular
role.

Many companies prefer this method over CV’s as it

allows companies to really tailor the application
method to suit their business needs

It can be quite time consuming, and resilience

will be tested- so planning is going to key!

Power verbs (e.g., transformed, delivered, inspired)

Descriptive words (e.g., effective, consistent)
Examples of skills and achievements
Enthusiasm for the role

Top tips!
Grammar, spelling and punctuation: Check and proof-read (get a critical friend to
give you feedback)
Avoid repetition: Make sure that you haven't duplicated information in different
sections of your statement.
Use the active voice: This helps make it easier to follow and helps to keep the
reader's attention and use ‘I’
Be succinct: Keep your language simple, clear and easy to understand. Ensure the
statement continues to flow smoothly and naturally.
Honesty: Be authentic throughout your statement. Employers who read thousands of
personal statements are likely to notice exaggerations- be yourself!
