“Somebody Told Me
I'm a Prophet:
Where Do I Start?”
If the echoing whispers of a deeper purpose reverberate in your
soul, if someone perceives a prophetic aura around you, you
might be on a journey to becoming God’s messenger. Let's
unpack this sacred calling together, navigating its depths
through biblical wisdom.

Recognizing the Signs of a Prophetic Call

Joel 2:28 speaks to us of a time when, "...your young men will

see visions, your old men will dream dreams." Dreams and
visions are intrinsic to the prophetic. Moses, in his earnest plea
in Exodus 32:32, showcased a prophet's heart, feeling an
unparalleled burden for God’s people. With Jeremiah 15:16,
we're reminded of the joy and resonance a prophet finds in
God’s Word when he says, "Your words were found, and I ate
them, and your words became to me a joy." Confirmations, as
highlighted in 2 Corinthians 13:1, establish every revelation
through the " testimony of two or three witnesses." Moreover,
profound divine encounters, reminiscent of Isaiah’s
transformative experience in Isaiah 6:1-8, often herald a
prophetic path.
1. SUBMITTING: THE FOUNDATION OF PROPHETIC MINISTRY

Consider the dynamic between Elijah and Elisha. Elisha,

in 1 Kings 19:21, relinquished his past to serve under
Elijah's tutelage. When you sense the tendrils of a
prophetic call, seek spiritual mentors. This isn't about
mere followership; it's about absorbing wisdom from
lived spiritual journeys.

2. SCHOOLING: FOSTERING COLLECTIVE PROPHETIC

WISDOM

The scriptural recounting in 1 Samuel 10:5 where Saul meets

prophets underscores the

essence of collective wisdom. Find yourself in the company of

experienced prophets. Dive into prophetic training and absorb
insights from seasoned spiritual pathfinders.

3. SERVING: HEART OF A TRUE PROPHET

Reflect on Elisha's commitment to Elijah in 2 Kings 3:11 and

Joshua's steadfastness in serving Moses (Exodus 24:13). At its
core, prophetic ministry is rooted in service. Serve with love in
your church or community, reflecting genuine humility and
understanding.

4. SEEING: CULTIVATING SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT

Elisha's plea in 2 Kings 6:17 for Gehazi's spiritual eyesight and

God's query to Jeremiah, "What do you see?" (Jeremiah 1:11),
underscore a prophet's need for vision. To refine your spiritual
perception, consistently seek the gift of discernment in your
prayers.
5. A MATURE PROPHET’S MANTLE

James 3:2 offers profound wisdom: "Anyone who is never at

fault in what they say is perfect...". A mature prophet knows
when to speak and when to remain silent. With 1 Corinthians
14:3 guiding us, aim to edify, exhort, and comfort through
prophecy, always with humility and divine love.

Concluding, the prophetic journey is a tapestry of awe,

introspection, and spiritual elevation. Beyond any title, it's about
deepening your bond with God and shepherding His people.
Let these insights be your torchbearers. Step into your calling
with fervor, becoming the beacon the world profoundly needs
today. Your journey commences now.

Summary:
Discovering one’s prophetic calling is a profound journey. Being
told you might have this gift can be both exhilarating and
intimidating. Let’s explore the signs that you might be called to
prophetic ministry and the steps you should consider taking.
Five Biblical Signs of
Prophetic Ministry:
1. Dreams and Visions:
As Joel 2:28 states, "...your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams."

2. A Burden to Intercede
Like Moses in Exodus 32:32, prophets often feel a deep
burden for God’s people and stand in the gap.

3. A Strong Connection with God’s Word

Jeremiah 15:16 says, "Your words were found, and I ate
them, and your words became to me a joy."

4. Receiving Confirmations
Through multiple witnesses, as mentioned in 2
Corinthians 13:1, "Every matter must be established by
the testimony of two or three witnesses."

5. Encounter with the Divine

Just as Isaiah’s commission in Isaiah 6:1-8, prophets
often have profound encounters with God.
Five Steps to
Activating the
Prophetic:

Step 1: Submitting - Following the Path of Humility:

BIBLICAL INSIGHT

Elisha submitted to Elijah. As shown in 1 Kings 19:21, he left

everything, followed Elijah, and became his servant.

ACTION STEP:

Seek spiritual mentors. Be open to correction, guidance, and

mentorship.

Step 2: Schooling - Preparing in the School of Prophets:

BIBLICAL INSIGHT

1 Samuel 10:5 mentions the group of prophets Samuel sends

Saul to, demonstrating the importance of learning in a
community.

ACTION STEP

Surround yourself with seasoned prophets. Attend prophetic

training or schools if possible.
Step 3: Serving - The Pathway to Leadership:

BIBLICAL INSIGHT

Elisha served Elijah (2 Kings 3:11), and Joshua served Moses

(Exodus 24:13). True prophetic ministry springs from a heart of
service.

ACTION STEP

Serve in your local church or community. Dedicate time to

assist leaders, and embrace humility.

Step 4: Seeing - Cultivating Spiritual Vision:

BIBLICAL INSIGHT

Elisha prayed for his servant Gehazi's eyes to be opened (2

Kings 6:17). Jeremiah was also often asked, "What do you see?"
(Jeremiah 1:11).

ACTION STEP

Regularly pray for spiritual sight. Engage in practices that

sharpen your spiritual discernment.

Step 5: Speaking - Proclaiming with Maturity and Wisdom:

BIBLICAL INSIGHT

Mature prophets are entrusted to speak on God’s behalf. James

3:2 states, "Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is
perfect..."

ACTION STEP

As you mature, speak the revelations God gives you with

humility.

Remember, prophecy is meant to edify, exhort, and comfort (1

Corinthians 14:3).
Conclusion:

Your prophetic journey will be unique, filled with moments of

awe, challenge, and growth. Remember, it's not about the title
but the relationship with God and service to His people.
Embrace each step with a heart of humility and a desire to
draw closer to God.
