1.3 Principle of operation

The Repeater Compass receives the heading information from the gyro compass or from
the magnetic compass by means of serial transmission with absolute and clear values.
The serial transmission is realized via the RS 422 HEADING SERIAL* interface.
If it is intended to indicate data via a NMEA RS 422 or RS 232 interface, the Repeater Com-
pass recognizes this type of interface and changes automatically over to gyro / magnetic
compass operation. Selecting the message type via a configuration is not necessary.

The serial course information is converted into steps on the steering repeater PCB for the
stepping motor in a ratio of 1:36 and is shown by the 360 and the 10 card.

2.1 Indications

2.1.1 Analog heading indication

The serial course information is converted into steps on the steering repeater PCB for the
stepping motor in the ratio of 1 : 36. It is indicated by the 360 and the 10 card.

2.1.2 Digital heading display

In addition to the analog heading indication by the cards, the Repeater Compass is also
equipped with a digital heading display on the left side of the front panel. This heading dis-
play cannot be desynchronized (refer to Fig. 2). The display alternates between the current
heading and the current heading sensor (”G_AL”, “G_M_”, “G_--_”, “M_--_”).

2.1.3 Status-- and alarm indications

The digital display also reports any possible error or alarm by means of a preset display
code (refer to section 4.2.2). If the Repeater Compass is used as a steering compass the
optical alarm is supported by a buzzer.
