Safety Precaution
Read the following precautions while handling and installing
• Wear an anti-static wrist strap or a heel grounder, before you remove a module from its package or from the
shelf.
• In the process of replacing a node, place the node on an anti-static cover or on an anti-static foam.
• Avoid touching the solder side of the module, the pin connector, or the components.
• Inspect each module for damage before inserting the component into the shelf.
• Store the uninstalled node inside an anti-static cover and place this cover in its original packaging box.
• Avoid stacking nodes on or against each other. Check the stacking limit symbol, if any, on the package box.
• Avoid forcing nodes into their packaging material.
• Avoid storing several nodes in the same container.
• Allow each module to reach room temperature before you insert the module into the shelf.

Tejas Networks Limited 2024. All rights reserved. 22

Safety Precaution
• When not in use, pluggable modules are packed inside an anti-static bag and placed inside foam packaging to
prevent damage to the exposed connector terminals.
• To prevent damage to cards in storage, follow procedures that prevent accumulation of dirt or dust on the pin
connectors and damage to the printed circuit board. This situation is typical for printed circuit boards stored
in areas where the humidity can exceed 95% and the temperature can exceed 70°C.
• While transporting cards, pack each module in its original anti-static container and padding or in an anti-static
bag. In case the original packing material is lost, place the module in an anti-static bag and use another
container with sufficient padding.
• Clean air filters every 15 to 30 days

TEJAS ELEMENT MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM.

Tejas Networks Limited 2024. All rights reserved. 55

ELEMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OVERVIEW.
• A Element Management System (EMS) is an application or set of applications that lets network administrators manage a network’s independent
components inside a bigger management framework. EMS may be used to monitor both software and hardware components in a network. EMS
permits the user to monitor their entire business operations using a central computer.

• The functionalities supported by EMS include:

• Network monitoring: NMS software monitors network hardware to ensure all devices are operating correctly and are not near or at full capacity.

• Device detection: When a new device is connected to the network, it can be recognized, configured, and added to the network using NMS.

• Performance analysis: NMS can analyse the current and historical performance of a network. This includes the overall performance of the network,
individual devices, and connections.

• Device management: NMS provides a simple way to manage multiple devices from a central location.

• Fault management: If a device in the network fails, NMS can detect it and reroute the traffic. This action is accomplished using a set of preconfigured
rules.

TEJAS SUBTENTED EMS
• ADD SUBTENTED EMS
Once the installation of the Element Management System (EMS) and subtended EMS is completed, users can log into
the EMS interface using valid credentials. This involves accessing the EMS application, entering the appropriate URL,
providing the assigned username and password, and clicking the login button. The EMS authenticates the user's
credentials, checks authorization levels, and, upon success, grants access to the EMS dashboard or main interface.

Tejas Networks Limited 2024. All rights reserved. 57

TEJAS SUBTENTED EMS
• After successfully logging into the home page of the Element Management System (EMS), users can initiate the
process of adding a subtended EMS by clicking on the "Add Subtended EMS" button located in the left top corner.
This action prompts a form to appear, where users must fill in essential details such as the subtended EMS IP address,
name, EMS type, as well as the associated username and password. These details are crucial for establishing
communication and coordination between the main EMS and the subtended EMS.

ADD NODES IN EMS
• To add a node in the Element Management System (EMS), users can follow a simple process. Click on the "Add NE"
button located in the left top corner of the interface. In the ensuing form, enter the node's router ID in the "Node IP"
field, along with details such as the subtended EMS name, partition label, and communication protocol, set to SNMP
v1. Choose the default SNMP community username and password. Finally, click on the "Add Node" button to
complete the node addition process.

Tejas Networks Limited 2024. All rights reserved. 61

ADD NODES IN EMS
• Upon successful addition of nodes in the Element Management System (EMS), the "Communication status" column
will indicate "Available," confirming that the nodes are actively communicating with the EMS. Additionally, the "EMS
Sync state" column will display "ACTIVE," signifying that the synchronization state between the EMS and the added
nodes is established and operational. These status indicators assure users that the nodes are integrated seamlessly
into the EMS, and communication channels are open and available for efficient network monitoring and
management.

they want to link. Next, they should locate and click on the "Create Topology Link" button located in the top bar.

Tejas Networks Limited 2024. All rights reserved. 64

TOPOLOGY LINK CONFIGURATION BETWEEN THE
NODES FROM EMS
To configure a connection between nodes in the physical topology view, the user must first select the dedicated source
and destination partitions. If the TL Type (Topology Link Type) isn't already chosen, it needs to be set to 'Ethernet'.
Additionally, the capacity should be adjusted based on the port capacity of the nodes involved. The source and
destination ports will then be automatically selected based on the corresponding nodes. It's essential to keep the TL
mode set to 'Online'. Once these settings are adjusted, the user can proceed by clicking on the 'Submit' button. This
action will finalize the configuration, establishing the desired connection between the selected nodes.
