1. A beam with a span of 7𝑚 between supports has an overhanging extended part of 2𝑚 on

one side only. The beam carries a uniform dead load of 34𝑘𝑁/𝑚 and a uniform live load
of 20𝑘𝑁/𝑚. Design the reinforced rectangular beam section for positive and negative
moments. Use 𝑓𝑐𝑘 = 25𝑀𝑃𝑎 concrete and 𝑓𝑦𝑘 = 500 𝑀𝑃𝑎 reinforcement and 𝑏 =
300 𝑚𝑚.

2. The two-span continuous beam shown in figure below is subjected to a uniform dead load
of 30𝑘𝑁/𝑚 and a uniform live load of 10𝑘𝑁/𝑚. The reactions due to loadings are also
shown for simplicity. Calculate the maximum negative factored moment at the
intermediate support and the maximum positive factored moment within the span, design
the critical section and draw the reinforcement details for the entire beam ABC.

3. A rectangular floor system consists of parallel T-beams spaced 3𝑚 on centers and

spanning 6.5𝑚 between supports. The 150𝑚𝑚 thick slab is poured monolithically with
beam webs having width 𝑏𝑤 = 350𝑚𝑚 and total depth measured from the top of slab
of ℎ = 500𝑚𝑚. The effective depth will be taken 75𝑚𝑚 less than the total depth. In
addition to its own weight, each T-beam must carry a superimposed dead load
of 2.5𝑘𝑁⁄𝑚2 and live load of 10𝑘𝑁⁄𝑚2. Material grades are 𝑆 − 400 steel and 𝐶25/30

concrete. Determine the required tensile steel for flexure and shear reinforcement for
shear force.
4. Design the floor slab system which framed by beams shown in the figure. The loads
consists of 𝐿𝐿 = 5𝑘𝑁/𝑚2 and load from partition walls 3𝑘𝑁/𝑚2. A 45𝑚𝑚 cement
screed, 5.5𝑚𝑚 PVC tiles and 20𝑚𝑚 ceiling plasters are used for floor finishing. The
building is meant for residential purpose with materials C20/25 concrete and S-400 steel
reinforcement. Design also beams on the axis C as continuous beam for flexure and for
shear.
