1 Introduction
This document describes the Antenna Integrated Radio Units Entel is going to deploy for its
ICAR sites during 2014. The objective is minimize the tower load and maximize the
capacity-space ratio in the tower/rooftop.

2 AIR21 for Entel Chile

Three AIR21 units will be installed per sector. The target is to deploy 4 carriers in 2G and 4
carriers 3G 1900MHz [B2], 2 carries in 3G 900MHz [B8], LTE 3x20MHz MIMO2x2 in
2600MHz [B7] and LTE 3x15MHz MIMO2x2 in 700MHz [B28].

The strategy is to run 2G/3G B2 and LTE B7 in the active part of the AIR units while LTE
B28 and 3G B8 will use two RRUS sharing the passive antenna of the AIR by the use of
diplexers.

Summarizing, the following AIR21 per sector will be required:

- AIR21 B2A, B4P 1,3m.

- AIR21 B7A, 2P (2 passive ports in the range from 1700 - 2100MHz. 1,3m.
- AIR21 B2A, 700-900P (passive port in the range 700-900) 2m.

3 Main Characteristics
An AIR unit consists of two Radio Units (RUs) integrated with an antenna. It is intended to
be used in a Main-Remote configuration in the same fashion as conventional Remote
Radio Units (RRUs).

The antenna in the AIR unit is a dual-polarized antenna. The active part of the AIR unit
consists of two RUs integrated into the same enclosure as the antenna. The active part can
be connected to the RBS main unit. The passive part of the AIR unit allows connection to
an existing RBS with the AIR unit functioning as a standard antenna. The use of the
passive part is optional.

The AIR unit is intended to be installed outdoors on a pole, mast, or wall. The active part of
the AIR unit supports GSM, WCDMA, and LTE. The passive part of the AIR unit supports
different frequency bands depending on the AIR unit type. The active and passive parts of
the antenna in the AIR unit can simultaneously be used for different radio network access
standards. Each integrated antenna part has the Remote Electrical Tilt (RET) function and
can be electrically tilted independent of the electrical tilt of the other antenna part. The AIR
unit can also be mechanically tilted by using the down tilt installation kit.

The active part of AIR 21 has 2 TX branches and 4 RX branches with two columns of dual-
polarized antennas (four antennas).

The active part of the AIR unit consists of the two RUs integrated with one antenna part.
The RUs in the active part are connected to the Digital Unit (DU) part of the RBS main unit.
The passive part of the AIR unit can be connected to an RU in another RBS with the AIR
unit functioning as a standard antenna.

One or two fiber optic cables connect the AIR unit active part to the RBS main unit. Two or
four (depending on AIR unit type) optional Radio Frequency (RF) cables can connect the
AIR unit passive part to another RBS.

Two optional RF cables can be connected to the RX sharing ports of the AIR unit to
external equipment. The RX sharing ports are not available on all AIR unit types. For
detailed information, see Section 5 in reference [1].

The AIR units are hardware prepared for an antenna integrated polarization switch
(manually regulated) that can be used if two AIR units are used together. For detailed
information, see Section 5 in reference [1].

All AIR 21 units support Multistandard Mixed Mode (MSMM) on the integrated RRUs. For
more information, refer to reference [2].

The color of the radome is grey, and light grey on the rear and side solar shields.

4.4 Space Requirements

This section describes the space requirements for installing the AIR unit. A complete
installation description is found in Installing Antenna Integrated Radio Units.

The AIR unit is only for outdoor installation. Pole installations can be either on monopoles
or masts (or towers).

4.4.1 Generic Requirements

The AIR unit is installed with the cable connections facing down. Allow a minimum of 500
mm free space below the AIR unit to ensure sufficient working space. If there is a heat
generating unit placed below the AIR unit, the distance to the AIR unit must be a minimum
of 1 m to ensure adequate airflow.

Table 7 lists the required free space needed between AIR units to ensure adequate airflow.

Table 7: Space Requirement for Adequate Airflow Between AIR Units

4.5 Acoustic Noise

The AIR unit does not generate acoustic noise.

4.6.3 Materials

All Ericsson products fulfill the legal, market, and Ericsson requirements regarding the
following:

 Material declaration
 Materials' fire resistance, components, wires, and cables
 Recycling
 Restricted and banned material use.

4.7 Power Supply Characteristics

This section describes the power supply requirements, power consumption, and fuse and
circuit breaker recommendations for the AIR unit.

4.7.1 DC Power Supply Characteristics

The power supply voltage for the AIR unit is -48 V DC.

The following is a list of the power supply requirements:

- Nominal Voltage: -48 V DC

- Operating Voltage Range: -38.0 to -58.5 V DC
- Non-destructive Range: 0 to -60 V DC

Fuse and Circuit Breaker Recommendations

The recommended fuse rating is 15/16 A for all the AIR units.

The recommendations given in this section are based on peak power consumption, and
they give no information on power consumption during normal operation.

The recommended melting fuse type is am-gL-gG, according to IEC 60269-1. Circuit
breakers must comply with at least Curve 3 tripping characteristics, according to IEC 609
34.

The AIR unit has a built-in Class 1 (Type 1) Surge Protection Device (SPD) to protect the
equipment in case of lightning and network transients. The recommended fuse or circuit
breaker rating is therefore dimensioned to not trip the fuse or circuit breaker in case of most
SPD operation.
