Safety Signs and Statements
This manual uses three types of safety signs and
statements. Each is defined below.
! WARNING
Indicates a potentially hazardous
situation, which, if not avoided, could
result in death or serious injury.
! CAUTION
Indicates a potentially hazardous
situation, which, if not avoided, may
result in minor or moderate injury. It may
also be used to alert against unsafe
practices.
NOTE
Note tells you information that will make
operating easier or better.

Safety Signs and Statements
Models Covered
This manual covers Models LCR55 and LCS55
versions, Raymond Hand Pallet Trucks.
Delivery Inspection
Visually inspect the hand pallet truck frame
components and hydraulic unit for damage during
shipment by the carrier. If damage is evident, notify
the delivering carrier immediately and file the
necessary claims. Test the hand pallet truck pump
for proper operation. If the hydraulic pump does not
respond to movement of the handle, an air lock may
have developed during shipping. To remedy this, go
to the user friendly “Troubleshooting” guide on
page 12 in this manual.

Safety First
Safe Use of This Hand Pallet Lift Truck is
Your Responsibility
Before you use this hand pallet lift truck, read this
manual completely. Make sure that you understand
all of the content. If you do not understand any part
of this manual, tell your supervisor.
Any equipment can be hazardous if not used
properly, including this hand pallet lift truck.
Operate this hand pallet lift truck only if you are
authorized and trained to do so.
We built this hand pallet lift truck for one job — to
handle and transport material. Use it for nothing
else.
Operate this hand pallet lift truck responsibly. If you
fail to follow the safety rules while using this hand
pallet lift truck, you could hurt yourself or someone
else, or damage equipment.

Safety Equipment
To avoid personal injury, always wear required
personal protective equipment that includes the
following:
• Safety shoes
• Safety glasses
• Heavy-duty gloves
Safety Rules
Follow these safety rules:
• Only handle loads on flat level surfaces.
Do not use a loaded truck on inclines or
declines.
• Do not operate this hand pallet lift truck unless
you are authorized and trained to do so.
• Read and obey all warnings and instructions
contained in this manual.
• Do not use the hand pallet lift truck if it is
damaged or has any faults that might affect
either its safety or its safe use.

• Do not use the hand pallet lift truck if it has
been repaired, modified, or adjusted, unless it
has been checked and approved by your
supervisor or another authorized person.
• Always operate the hand pallet lift truck with
care and good judgement. Be responsible.
• Do not operate the hand pallet lift truck with
oily hands or oily shoes, due to the risk of
slipping.
• Floors should be strong enough to handle the
heaviest allowed load being transported.
• Use extreme care around objects that stick out
from racks, shelves, or walls. These objects can
cause bodily injury or damage to the hand
pallet lift truck.
• Never carry passengers.
• Never overload your hand pallet truck. Stay
within the rated capacity.
• Distribute the load evenly on the forks. Do not
concentrate loads at one point or load one fork
more than the other.
• Never allow anyone to stand on or near the
hand pallet lift truck’s forks.

Safety Rules
• Never put your feet, hands, or any other body
part under the frame assembly.
• Use the hand pallet lift truck only to transport
loads.
• Do not allow your hand pallet truck to drop
from one level to another. Even a drop of
1 in. (25 mm) more than doubles the effected
load momentarily and results in a “shock” that
can bend or break components.
• Never allow anyone to stand in front of or
immediately near a loaded hand pallet lift
truck.
• Do not use in cold storage, salty, or other
corrosive environments.
• Horseplay is dangerous to personnel and
equipment, and is not permitted.
• Do not run while operating this hand pallet lift
truck.
• Always make sure that the load is stable before
moving to eliminate the opportunity for load
shift.
• Always yield the right-of-way to pedestrians.
• Be aware of other lift trucks in the area;
operate the hand pallet lift truck cautiously.

fast a speed could cause a hand pallet lift truck
to tip. If loaded, the load could shift and fall.
• When the load impairs visibility, the hand
pallet lift truck should be pulled and not
pushed.
• Come to a stop gently and carefully to prevent
the load from slipping off of the load carriers.
• Always keep a safe distance from the edges of
loading bays and loading ramps. Be attentive to
marked risk areas.
• Before operating a hand pallet lift truck over a
loading ramp, make sure that the loading ramp
is correctly secured and has the necessary load
bearing capacity. Operate the hand pallet lift
truck slowly and carefully across the ramp.
• Securely set the brakes and block the wheels of
highway trucks, trailers, and railroad cars
before you load or unload them. Check the
highway truck/trailer/railroad car doorway
clearance. Make sure floors of highway trucks,
trailers, and railroad cars will support the

weight of the loaded hand pallet truck. Cross
railroad tracks only at approved floor grade
crossings. Do not park hand pallet trucks
within 8 ft. (2.4 m) of railroad tracks. Ask local
railroad authorities or your supervisor which
warning devices to use.
• When parking a hand pallet lift truck on
another vehicle, make sure that the parking
brake, if equipped, has been applied and/or a
parking rack, if available, is used.
• Stop when approaching crossing aisles, when
exiting an aisle, or when visibility is obstructed.
• Before operating or moving a hand pallet lift
truck into an elevator, make sure that the
elevator is approved for total weight of the hand
pallet lift truck, the load, the operator, and any
other passenger in the elevator. When entering
the elevator, the load must enter first—not the
operator. No other person should be in the
elevator when the load or hand pallet lift truck
enters or leaves.
• When not is use, lower the forks completely to
avoid injury.

Report all accidents—personal, damage to buildings
or equipment—to your supervisor immediately. All
unsafe conditions on the hand pallet lift truck
should also be reported.
Lifting the Hand Pallet Lift Truck
To lift a hand pallet lift truck either by hand or with
lifting equipment, follow these warning instructions.
! WARNING
Use extreme caution when lifting a hand
pallet lift truck by hand.

Hand Pallet Lift Truck Rating
The weight of the load must be within the hand
pallet lift truck’s permitted lifting capacity. For load
weight and lifting capacity rate, see the specification
plate on the truck and Figure 1.
NOTE
If any plate and/or decal becomes
unreadable, it must be replaced. Contact
your supervisor or local authorized
Raymond Sales and Service Center for a
replacement.

Injury may occur when lifting the

hydraulic end of the hand pallet lift truck.
Cuts may occur when lifting the forks and
end-plate.

When lifting a hand pallet lift truck, using

lifting equipment, it is recommended to
use a hand pallet lift truck equipped with
a lifting eye.

Keep your body clear of the pallet truck

and nearby objects and your hands on
the control handle while walking with a 2
hand pallet truck.

Your head, arms, hands, legs, or feet can

be seriously injured if they strike objects
while the hand pallet truck is moving. 3

For maximum operating efficiency, follow these

instructions: (See Figure 2.)

1. To lift the load, push down on the lift/lower
lever. Pump the handle to lift the load from the
floor.
2. To lower the load, pull up on the lift/lower
lever.
3. For free handle movement, place the lift/lower
lever in the neutral position.

NOTE
The neutral position disengages the pump
from the lifting mechanism. This frees the
handle, which makes pulling loads much
easier. Also, the pump is not being
subjected to shock pressures while the
hand pallet lift truck is in motion.

Maintenance
Lubrication
All pivot points are equipped with permanently
lubricated bushings and bearings. To increase
bearing life, it is recommended that a few drops of
light machine oil be applied at each pivot point every
6 months. The thrust plate is equipped with three
grease fittings. Apply grease under normal
conditions every 6 months.
Push Bar Linkage Adjustment
If the forks do not rise evenly at the tips, or the roller
levers begin to drag on the floor, adjust following
these steps for that model:
LCR55 Model
1. Turn the hand pallet truck over so that the
underside of the forks are accessible. Refer to
Figure 5 on page 28.
2. Remove one split pin (Item 7) with a
3/16 in. punch.

4. Adjust the eyebolts (Item 11). Turn
counterclockwise to raise the fork tips and
clockwise to lower the fork tips.
5. Replace pin (Item 6) through the eyebolt and
replace split pin (Item 7).
6. When adjusted properly, the top of the forks
should be 3 in. (76.2 mm) from ground level
when in the lowered position.
LCS55 Model
1. Turn the hand pallet truck over so that the
underside of the forks are accessible. Refer to
Figure 6 on page 32.
2. Remove one split pin (Item 32) with a
3/16 in. punch.
3. Remove pin (Item 33) from the bracket.
4. Adjust the eyebolts (Item 35). Turn
counterclockwise to raise the fork tips and
clockwise to lower the fork tips.
5. Replace pin (Item 33) through the eyebolt and
replace split pin (Item 32).

add hydraulic oil unless there is, or has been, a
leak. Use Premium HVI hydraulic oil or equal. Other 2-3/4 in. 4.4

system. If you suspect additional oil is required,
follow these steps:

! CAUTION
It is extremely important that step 5 is
performed. Otherwise, air in the pump can
force out the wiper seal (Item 24). Take care
when adding oil not to introduce impurities
into the hydraulic system.
6. Tighten the screw (Item 29) fully and return
the truck upright.

! WARNING
Before welding or grinding on painted
surfaces always sandblast (remove) at
least 4-6 in. (102-152 mm) of paint.
Heated paint gives off harmful gases.

when carrying out repairs. A badly
supported hand pallet lift truck could
cause injury.
Safe maintenance practices conform with the
following general guidelines:
• Always keep the area where you work clean.
Oil and/or water make the floor slippery.
• Never wear loose fitting objects or jewelry.
• Properly store or dispose of used oil. Follow the
manufacturer’s instructions.
• Properly dispose of used solvents and all other
cleaning/washing chemicals. Do not flush
down drains. Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions for proper disposal.

Troubleshooting

Use the troubleshooting procedures shown in

Table 2 as a guide only. Do not try to service this lift
truck. Contact your Service Department or your
local authorized Raymond Sales and Service Center
listed on the back of this manual.

well as the date of purchase to your local authorized

Hand Pallet Truck Warranty hardware.

The Raymond Corporation reserves the right to make changes

The Raymond Hand Pallet Trucks, Models LCR55 and LCS55
versions, are warranted against defects in materials and
workmanship for a period of two (2) years for the hydraulic pump,
one (1) year for the truck chassis, and six (6) months for wearable
components. All periods begin from date of installation.
Wearable Components include but are not limited to:
• Wheels, Rollers, and Bearings
• Oilite Bearings and Bushings
Components found to be defective by an authorized Raymond
Sales and Service Center during the warranty period will be
replaced or repaired as indicated above. Replacement
components installed during the defined period set forth above,
are warranted for the balance of the applicable truck warranty
period, or 90 days, whichever is longer. Additionally, freight
charges for parts involved in the replacement or repair of a
defective component will be paid by Raymond, provided that the
replacement or repair is made by an authorized Raymond Sales
and Service Center. Labor or miscellaneous costs involved in the
replacement of any components determined to be defective are
not covered. Local taxes, if any, are excluded.

warranty is expressly voided without any further notice if any
modification is made to the Raymond equipment, or if additional
components or devices are added to the Raymond equipment,

THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES,
EXPRESSED, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. THERE ARE NO
WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE. In no event shall The Raymond
Corporation be liable for incidental, special, or consequential
damages.

This warranty is void in the event of defects or damage caused by

misuse, abuse, or accident. Any truck used under adverse
conditions, such as fish, meat or poultry processing plants,
tanneries, freezer applications, or any other application where the
unit is operating in water or subjected to fluid or chemicals is
NOT covered under any warranty.

Selected OSHA Regulations for Lift Trucks
Note: Some or all of the following may not be applicable to
your hand pallet lift truck.
The use of forklift trucks in the workplace is governed by various
regulations. In the United States, the Federal Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued regulations which
cover the majority of workplaces.
In addition, several states have implemented regulations which
apply instead of the Federal regulations.
Check with your local OSHA office or provincial Labor Bureau to
confirm which regulations govern your workplace.
Because of their wide applicability, this section of your manual
lists several parts of the Federal OSHA regulations that might be
of particular importance to your workplace.
The full text of the Federal regulations can be found in the Code
of Federal Regulations at 29 CFR Section 1910.178.
The following citations are followed by a reference to the
appropriate subparagraph of the regulations.
• Modifications and additions which affect capacity and safe
operation shall not be performed by the customer or user
without manufacturers prior written approval. Capacity,
operation and maintenance instruction plates, tags or decals
shall be changed accordingly. (a) (3)
• The user shall see that all nameplates and markings are in
place and are maintained in a legible condition. (a) (6)

• The employer shall ensure that each powered industrial
truck operator is competent to operate a powered industrial
truck safely, as demonstrated by the successful completion
of the training and evaluation specified in this paragraph. (l)
(1) (i)
• Prior to permitting an employee to operate a powered
industrial truck (except for training purposes), the employer
shall ensure that each operator has successfully completed
the training required by this paragraph. (l) (1) (ii)
• Trainees may operate a powered industrial truck only under
the direct supervision of persons who have the knowledge,
training, and experience to train operators and evaluate their
competence and where such operation does not endanger the
trainee or other employees. (l) (2) (i) (A) (B)
• Training shall consist of a combination of formal instruction
(e.g. lecture, discussion, interactive computer learning,
videotape, written material), practical training
(demonstrations performed by the trainer and practical
exercises performed by the trainee), and evaluation of the
operator’s performance in the workplace. (l) (2) (B) (ii)
[Editorial Note: For required training program content, refer
to (l) (3) (i) (A-M) and (l) (3) (ii) (A-I).]
• Refresher training, including an evaluation of the
effectiveness of that training, shall be conducted as required
by paragraph (l) (4) (ii) to ensure that the operator has the
knowledge and skills needed to operate the powered
industrial truck safely. (l) (4) (i)
