1.This question paper contains five sections A, B, C, D and E. Each section is
compulsory.
2. Section - A carries 20 marks weightage, Section - B carries 10 marks weightage, section - C
carries 18 marks weightage, section – D carries 20 marks weightage and section – E
carries 3 case-based with total weightage of 12 marks.
Section – A:
3. It comprises of 20 MCQs of 1 mark each.
Section – B:
4. It comprises of 5 VSA type questions of 2 marks each.
Section – C:
5. It comprises of 6 SA type of questions of 3 marks each.
Section – D:
6. It comprises of 4 LA type of questions of 5 marks each.
Section – E:
7. It has 3 case studies. Each case study comprises of 3 case-based questions,
where 2 VSA type questions are of 1 mark each and 1 SA type question is of
2 marks. Internal choice is provided in 2 marks question in each case-study.

Section – C, 2 questions in Section - D. You have to attempt only one of the

7.00 per package on bolts. He operates his machines for at the most 12 hours a day. Formulate
the linear programming problem to maximise his profit.

much should be deposited quarterly in a sinking fund carrying 12% per annum compounded 3

34 One kind of cake requires 300 g of flour and 15 g of fat, another kind of cake requires 150 g
of flour and 30g of fat. Find the maximum number of cakes which can be made from 7.5 kg of
flour and 600 g of fat, assuming that there is no shortage of the other ingredients used in 5
making the cakes. Make it an L.P.P. and solve it graphically.

35 The production manager of a company plans to include 180 sq.cm of actual printed matter in
each page of a book under production. Each page should have a 2.5 cm wide margin along the
top and bottom and 2 cm wide margin along the sides. What are the most economical
dimensions of each printed page?

A given rectangular area is to be fenced off in a field whose length lies along a straight river. If
no fencing is needed along the river, show that the least amount of fencing will be required
when the length of the field is twice its breadth.

36 CASE STUDY – I
An overhead water tank has three pipes A, B and C attached to it. A and B fill the tank in 12
minutes and 15 minutes respectively when operated independently. Pipe C can empty the full
tank in 20 minutes .
Based on the above information, answer the following questions. Show steps to support your
answers.
a) How much water will be filled by pipe A and pipe B in 5 minutes? 1
b) How long will it take for the empty tank to fill completely, if all the three pipes are opened
simultaneously. 1
c) If the pipe C is opened 5 minutes after the pipes A and B are opened, find when the tank

The following data shows the percentage of rural Indians who have a high speed internet
connection at home.

a) By taking 2003 as origin, use method of least squares to find the best- fit trend line

3-years moving average. Also draw the trend line.
b) What is the forecast for the year 2006 for rural Indians using trend equation? 1

38 CASE STUDY – III


Let X be a random variable which count the number of hours a student of class XII studies.
X has a probability distribution P(X) of the following form.
