1 Rewrite the following sentences in the reported speech. Revise:

I said it was impossible to eradicate discrimination for good.
b. “I have asked them to apologise to the migrant,” claimed Ross.
Ross claimed that he had asked them to apologise to the
migrant.
c. “I met the guest worker yesterday,” he told me.

d. “I will not take part in this conspiracy,” said Mary.
Mary said that she would not take part in that conspiracy.

2 Change the following sentences from indirect to direct speech.


a. The migrant admitted that he had never worked in a factory.
“I have never worked in a factory,” admitted the migrant.
b. They told us they would solve the hate crime incident the following day.
“We will solve the hate crime incident tomorrow ,” they told us.
c. We told the tourists that we were meeting them in Manhattan.

3 Change the following sentences from direct to indirect speech.

b. “Will you apply for the green card when you arrive in the US?”
Sonya asked Martin if we would apply for the green card when he arrived in the US
c. “Don’t stand here and pretend you didn’t witness that racist incident.”
Melanie told Tom not to stand there and pretend he hadn´t witnessed that racist incident.
