Supporting Statement

Further details in support of your Application

Skills and Experience
When I was at primary school I loved the feel of community. When my daughter began nursery I increasingly became involved at
the school. I spent my days off from my job helping in the classroom. I volunteered at PTA events, alongside teachers and parents.
I’ve always been creative, having my own ideas and really enjoyed helping the children create Easter chicks. Watching and helping
a child achieve something is so rewarding. The smile on their face when they had finished their art work filled me with happiness
and my desire to teach them more.
I began research into teaching; I read an article which increased my passion. The article claims ‘90%-95% of brain growth happens
in the first 5 years’, making these the most crucial years of a child’s learning. I find this so important for a child to have the right
start in life and I believe I would give my all for each and every child in my class. I want to be the one to encourage these
developments, through creativity learning, role play through different scenarios and team building. I also want to play a part in the
children’s desire to learn and to enjoy learning. I’ve learnt how each age group develops with age and experience in learning to
understand new concepts and keeping them interested with refreshing topics. I leant children learn when they enjoy the topic. This
can be extended from a simple game through taking turns keeping the game fresh and interesting maintains interest and the brain
developing.
Having personally struggled with learning, as I am dyslexic, I can relate to how a child with learning difficulties may feel and
understand their struggle. When playing a counting game one on one, I came across a few children who really found the game
difficult. I found them unable to count up to ten, as many of the others did. I simply broke down the game into steps i.e. reading
through the numbers first to help them recognise each number. Then repeated the numbers over and over to help the child recognise
the sounds of numbers in two stages for example 1-5 then 6-10. I found this encouraged the child and for the game to be less
overwhelming.
I feel responsibility is important in keeping order within the classroom ensuring all children are behaving and on task. Children need
to respect each other and the staff. Over the years through working in different environments with many different individuals, I’ve
gained skill in communication. I can modify my approach to suit the circumstances. I completely understand not all children
communicate in the same way. I’ve learnt to work with the individual on a one to one basis to find a way to help them understand.
A school teacher I have observed has a great method of attracting all the children’s attention. Through simply clapping her hands in
a rhythm, the children stop and clap the same rhythm back. I found this very effective when applied in her classroom.
I would excel in producing a good relationship with parents to encourage the direction of the child’s learning. I would also be united
with parents to help manage behavioural concerns.
Over the years I've learnt how to plan, record and monitor progression to achieve objectives. I can factor in an ever-changing
environment. In teaching I would hope these skills would help to manage a child’s development and ensure I reflect for each their
needs throughout the year. I believe I will be a credit to the teaching department and aspire to achieve my high potential in
practising quality teaching in providing care, support and fun.
