THE INFLUENCE OF PRINCIPAL’S LEADERSHIP STYLE ON THE TEACHER’S

PERFORMANCE
A. Below is an excerpt of the conceptual framework reflecting the Title of the
study.
1. Build/fabricate a paragraph that establishes the connection of
principal’s leadership to the teacher’s performance

Educational leadership has been a great aspect in having an effective and

efficient quality education. Basically, in every successful endeavor comes from a
great leadership. Most especially in school organization, the positive outlook of every
teaching staff, community, students and stakeholders reflects the kind of school
head one institution have. Principals' leadership styles are usually visible in their
actions and interactions with teachers, students, parents, and other school
personnel. A positive school climate can be achieved if the principal has an effective
leadership style. Teachers, students, staff, and parents will all feel more at ease and
satisfied with their children's education.

The school principal plays a vital role in promoting the school's goals and
objectives. Providing effective leadership is one of these tasks, and it helps teachers
perform better on the job. Such functions include the personnel development and
facilitation, responsible delegation and team empowerment, communication and
rapport, facilitation of instruction, and management. The principals' main challenges,
however, are to create and encourage a conducive environment for teaching and
learning. And in schools, the delegation of responsibilities is regarded as the most
important factor in determining an employee's success in the context of the broader
school environment.

Due to the various techniques used in their administration process, successful

school principals have been taught to be. The principal's leadership style has an
impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of the teachers' work in the classroom.
The act of performing or executing a specific assignment could be regarded
as a teacher's performance. It also refers to the responsibilities that a teacher has at
a given time in the school system in order to achieve educational objectives. This
refers to a teacher's capacity to blend relevant information in order to improve
teaching and learning processes. However, teacher’s performance is determined by
the worker’s level of participation in the day to day running of the organization.
The principal's primary responsibility is to establish an environment in which
teachers can achieve desired changes in students and so work well under various
leadership styles. As a result, the principal was supposed to support their teachers'
successful performance by identifying and satisfying or meeting their needs. As a
result, the purpose of this research was to describe the principal's leadership styles
and how they affect teacher performance in terms of planning, organizing,
monitoring, and evaluation, classroom climate and discipline, and leadership.

2. Make a Research Objectives (reflecting the indicators of the variables,

correlation and regression analysis statement)

The main thrust of the study was to find out the influence of principal’s leadership
style and the teachers’ performance of the high schools in Dujali District, Davao del
Norte.
More particularly, this sought answers to the following questions:
1. What is the extent of influence of principal’s leadership style of high schools
in Dujali District in terms of:
1.1 . directive leadership style;
1.2 . supportive;
1.3 . participative; and
1.4 . achievement-oriented?
2.What is the level of influence of teachers’ performance of high schools in Dujali
District in terms of:
2.1. planning;
2.2. organizing;
2.3. monitoring and evaluation;
2.4. classroom atmosphere and discipline; and
2.5. leadership?
3. Is there a significant relationship between the influence of principal’s
leadership style and the teachers’ performance?
4. Does the extent of influence of principal’s leadership style significantly predict
the teachers’ performance?

3. Construct the null hypothesis

The following hypotheses were tested at α = 0.05 level of significance:

1. There is no significant relationship between the influence of principal’s
leadership style and teachers’ performance.
2. There is no domain in the influence of principal’s leadership style that
significantly predicts the teachers’ performance in Dujali District.

4. Make a conceptual model.

Independent Variable Dependent Variable

- Directive leadership - Planning
style - Organizing
- Supportive - Monitoring and
- Participative evaluation
- Achievement-oriented - Classroom atmosphere
and discipline
- leadership

Conceptual Model of the Study

5. State the significance of the study (DepEd personnel, School
Administrator/Principal and Teachers)

Significance of the Study

The result of the study is beneficial to the certain groups of individuals. Firstly,

to the administration of UM Tagum College, the result of this research will give the

administration the idea of providing guidance in enhancing the different leadership

style of their hired teaching and administrative personnel. Secondly, to the

Department of Education (DepEd) personnel of Davao del Norte – Dujali District

through the Schools Division Superintendent, this research will give them the idea

about the influence of principal’s leadership style on the teachers’ performance.

Thirdly, to the different School Administrator/ Principal, this research will help them

determine what leadership style influences most to the teachers which will eventually

help them identify the necessary measures to enhance the teachers’ performance.

Further, this research will aid all the teachers to know their responsibility on planning,

organizing, monitoring and evaluation, classroom atmosphere and discipline, and

leadership. Finally, to the researcher, it will help the researcher realizes if principal’s

leadership style has significant relationship to the performance of the teachers.

B. Research Design/Methodological Approach

1. Describe the specific research design/methodological approach you

propose to utilize and why it is an appropriate choice given your research
questions. Cite sources that help you explain the critical features of the
design and your reasons for using that approach.

RESEARCH DESIGN
The quantitative non-experimental design using casual-correlation approach
was used in this study since the main objective of the study was to predict and
describe the relationship between two variables. Casual- correlation determines
whether one variable influences or causes the change in the other variable
( Cochran,2000). It was used to predict the influence of principal’s leadership
style of high schools in Dujali District.

2. Population, Sample and/or Setting:

Identify the overall population to be studied within your research, any

sampling that is to be done from this overall population, and your rationale
for choosing this population and sample to address your research
questions. Explain how you can gain access to this population and/or
sample. Include the exact type and number of participants you plan to
involve, and the specific criteria to qualify as a participant for this study. In
addition, if the population and sample are coming from a particular setting
(e.g., state, region, organization), also describe the characteristics of this
setting and why it was chosen.

Research Subject
The research subject was conducted at the four schools of Dujali District,
Davao del Norte Division. These schools are located at Municipality of Dujali. The
respondents involved were High School Teachers in each school Distribution of
respondents is reflected in Table 1. As shown, the respondents are grouped
according to school. There are nine hundred twenty-five (925) total population of
teachers in Dujali District. There are two hundred eighty-seven (287) total sample
that were selected in random sampling to the total population to guarantee that each
school is equitably represented.

Dujali National High School has fifty-three (53) respondents. In Alejal National High
School has sixty-one (61) total respondents.

Research Instrument
The researcher formulated a researcher-made questionnaire as instrument of
this study. The first part of the questionnaire was to determine the influence of
principal’s leadership style. The indicators are the quality, access and timeliness.
There were five (5) statements made per indicator. The questionnaire was answered
through the use of Likert Scale. Its option was 5- Very High, 4-High, 3- Moderate, 2-
Low and 1- Very Low. The questionnaire was checked, validated and approved by
the researcher’s adviser and by the panel of examiners.

3. Data Collection Procedures: Provide a detailed description of the methods

and procedures you will use to carry out your research design.

Data Collection Procedures

In order to gather the necessary data for the research, the following

steps were considered:

A letter of permission to conduct the research was requested by the

researcher from the Dean of the Graduate School and a Certification as

proof that this research was officially recognized by the UM Tagum College.

After which, the said letter and certification were given to the Schools

Division Superintendent of the Department of Education (DepEd) Davao del

Norte – Dujali District. Upon the approval of the Schools Division

Superintendent, the researcher personally administered the distribution of

questionnaire to the two hundred eighty-seven (287) respondents to ensure

the one hundred percent accuracy in the answering and retrieval of

questionnaires.

The researcher personally gave an orientation to the respondents on

the purpose of the study and gave them further instruction on how to go

along with the research instruments (questionnaires).

The gathered data was tabulated, analyzed and interpreted with the

aid of the prescribed tools in treating them.

4. Data Analysis: Describe the analysis procedure(s) you would use to analyze
your data. Describe the statistical procedure(s) would you use for each
research question, and why they are appropriate to address your research
questions and data.

Statistical Tools

The following statistical tools were used in interpreting the data collected:
Mean. It was used to describe the extent of the influence of principal’s

leadership style and the level of teachers’ performance.

Pearson-r. It was used to determine the significance of the relationship

between the influence of principal’s leadership style and the teachers’ performance.

Regression. It was used to find out what domain in the influence of principal’s

leadership style that significantly predicts the teachers’ performance in Dujali District.
