TRANSPLANTING OF SEEDLINGS (April 25, 2024)

 It is now Day 10 – The pechay ssedlings are now ready

for transplanting. In this project, we are going to use
Self-watering containers made out of soda bottles and 3
medium seedling bags.

 For easy extraction, place the container with seedlings

on top of another container filled with water (water
should be leveled with the soil of the container with
seedlings.

 Extract the seedlings with a stick to avoid damaging the

roots of the pechay seedlings. Then replant them in the
self-watering containers (make sure that the seedlings
are planted just below their crown, or below the 2 true
leaves) for the seedlings to grow upright and proper
roots development.
 After transplanting, water the seedlings at once, and
until water drips down to the bottom of the containers.

 Within 3 days, place the newly transplanted seedlings

under the morning and afternoon sunlight only. Avoid
placing them under the high noon sunlight to avoid the
seedlings from wilting away. This will give time for the
roots of the seedlings to recover.

 After 3 days, we can place them under the full sun when
roots have already recovered.
TIPS IN TRANSPLANTING THE SEEDLINGS

1. Since we’re going to plant these seedlings in pet bottle

containers only, it is important that the soil is loose and
well-draining, and with complete nutrients. Here, we
are using a combination of loose soil (loamy soil) – for
healthy and increased root growth; carbonized rice hull
– as a good soil conditioner and fertilizer and serves as a
pest repellant; coco peat – that makes the soil loose,
and has a high retention capacity; vermicast/compost –
contains macro and micronutrients which serve as food
of the seedlings, plus microbes that give good soil
structure (see picture above).
