GOAL

The clarify the types of RMAN backups that require NOAC option for NFS mounts.

SOLUTION

Please note NOAC check is done while creating backup for some file types and is skipped for others.

The following is the list of file types for which NOAC mount option is skipped:

datafile backup piece,

datafile incremental backup piece,
archivelog backup piece,
autobackup,
datafile copy,
data pump dump file

The NOAC option is needed for the rest of the backup types.

Side Note:

Reference Bug : Bug 8482162 : SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE STILL NEED NOAC ON NFS MOUNT POINT

RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM AUTOBACKUP doesn't need NOAC.

We can add the fact that NOAC check will be needed for CONTROLFILE/SNAPSHOT backups as it is not in the skip list.

If the controlfile/snapshot controlfile resides on NFS, then NOAC is required. However, if the controlfile/snapshot controlfile
resides on a local disk and the backups will reside on NFS then NOAC is not required. This is confirmed by the list of file
types which skip the check for NOAC.

If the CONTROL_FILE parameter points to an NFS device, then NOAC must be used. If the controlfile and snapshot
controlfile are not on NFS then NOAC should not be used. If set, there can be performance impact on the backup being
written to NFS. NFS checks occur during the backup operation when the controlfile and/or snapshot controlfile exist/point
to an NFS location.
