Pre-Installation 34° Unpacking At delivery, examine the exterior for physical damage while the carrier's reprosentative is present. If exterior damage is present, carefully unpack and inspect the unit and all accessories for damage. {fthere is no exterior damage, unpack and inspect the equipment ‘within five days of delivery. Ifyou find any damage, keep the packing materials and immediately report the damage tothe carrier. Use thin sheets of metal to level units equipped with casters 4.4 Shelves and Drawers Plasma freezers come standard with drawers. All other freezers ‘come standard with wire shelves.-20°C enzyme freezers come standard with wire shelves which have a call at the front. ‘Additional drawers and/or shelves are offered as availabe options, For safety in shipping, the shelves are packaged and secured inside the cabinet, Inert the shelf support hangers (included with the shelves) into the built-in shelf supports (located on the inside walls ofthe cabinet interior) atthe desired locations, Position the shelves on the Mat supports (Cefer to Figure 1). Note: The number of shelves supplied per cabinet varies ‘according to type of unit and size of cabinet. Figure 1. Shelf Support Hanger 48 Door Seal ‘Door seal integrity is critical for freezers. A loose fling gasket allows moist air to be drawn into the cabinet, resulting in quicker {rost buildup on the evaporator coil, longer running time, poor {emperature maintenance, and inereased operation cost. ‘To check the door seal, complete the following steps: 1. Open the door. 2. Insert a strip of paper (a couple of inches wide) between the door gasket and the cabinet flange and close the doo. 3. Ne 5.4 Service Mode Parameters “The service parameters are displayed after the alarm setpoints described in Section $3 above. To enter Service Mode, pess ti and hold for bout 5 seconds (this can be done from any program mode when the alarms are not enabled). The display will go blank, then display “SEP withthe service wrench icon illuminated. Inset the key in te switch and turn the power on, turning the key switch to position 1. The compressor and the evaporator fans should stan imamediacely. 3. REvcO 5 wh UALUMU AM BAM DAK A x Installation and Operation ‘C and -30°C Freezers 8 Alarm Systems 8.1 Operating the Alarm "The alarm system is designed to provide visual and audio _waming signals for both power failure and rise in temperature. ‘The alarm is equipped with a battery backup. “The alarm is activated when the freezer is operating andthe key swith is tuned to the third postion (see Figure 2 on page 3). ‘When the alarm system is activated, there fs a Ringhack feature: the audible alarm sounds approximately every six minutes until {he alarm condition is corected or the user resets. [Refer to pages 3 and for descriptions of alarm functions and splays. 8.2. Remote Alarm Terminals ‘When you order an optional freestanding alarm package with the cabinet, remote alarm terminals are provided. These terminals ‘are located atthe rear of the machine compartment. The terminals are: Common, Normally Closed, and Normally Open, 8.3. Installing the Remote Alarm 1. The remote alarm system has two keyhole slots on the back tohang the alarm system on the wall. Recorders ae availabe as optional accessories for all Iaboratory and enzyme freezers. ‘9:1 Sot Up and Operation "To prepare the recorder to function properly, complete the following steps: 1. Open the recorder door to acces the recorder. 2, Connect the nine volt DC battery located atthe secorder's ‘upper right comer. This battery provides backup power. 3. Install clean chart paper (refer to Section 9.3 below). 4. Remove the plastic eap from the pen stylus and close the recorder door. ‘Recorder operation begins when the system is powered on.The secorder may not respond until the sysiem reaches temperatures within the recordor's range. over Baty 9.2 Power Supply ‘The recorder normally uses AC power when the system is ‘operating. I AC power fais, the LED indicator flashes to alert ‘you o a power failure. The recorder continues sensing cabinet ‘temperature and the chart continues turning for approximately ‘2A hours with back-up power provided by the nine-vol battery. ‘The LED indicator glows continuously when main power is {functioning and the battery is charged. ‘When the battery is low, the LED flashes fo indicate thatthe battery needs to bi changed, 9.3 Changing Chart Paper ‘To change the chart paper, complete the following steps 1. Locate the pressure sensitive buttons atthe front, upper left ‘of the recorder panel. 2. Press and hotd the Change Chat button (#3) for one second. ‘The pen will move off the scale. 3. Unsere the center nu, remove the old chart paper, and ‘natal! new chart paper. Carefully align the day and time with {the reference mark (a small groove on the left side ofthe secorder pane!) 4, Replace the center nut and hand tighten. Press the Change (Chart button again to resume temperature recording. 8.4 Calibration Adjustment ‘This recorder has been accurately calibrated atthe factory and. relains calibration even during power interruptions. Ifrequired, however, adjustments ean be made as follows: 3. Run the unit continuously atthe control setpoint temperature. Continue steady operation for at least (wo hours to provide adequate time for recorder response. ‘2. Measure cabinet center solution temperature with a calibrated temperature monitor. Pall the drawer toward you until the sides are fully extended. 2. Lift the back ofthe drawer to disengage the mounting tabs from the slots on the slides. Note: The drawers ft snugly benween the slides. Push the back of the drawer from wulemeath to remove the drawer. 3. Raise the back ofthe drawer almost a vertical position and sisengage the front mounting lips from the slides. Figure 4. Drawer Removal 10.2 Reinstalling the Drawers ‘To reinstall the drawers, complete the following steps ef to Figure 4): 1, Poll both drawer slides toward you until the slides are fully extended. 2, Position the drawer between the slides and insert the front ‘outing clips into the lots on front ofthe slides. 3, Pash the back ofthe drawer down between the slides and ‘insert the drawer tabs into the back slots, 9: The drawers ft saugly between the slides. Push on the back of the drawer from the inside to insert the dranver Jabs completely into the slots. Make sure both drawer tabs are aligned with the slots on the slides before ‘pushing the drawer down betwoen the slides. 10,3 Changing Drawer Silde Position “The drawer slides are adjustable. You can position these slides in the vertical slots which are spaced at one-inch intervals Drawer slides have a small wite safety clip atthe front shelf support which provents the slides from falling when the drawers ‘are femoyed. Tb change the position of the drawer slides, complete the following steps: 1. Locate the safety clip. 2 Slip your fingesnail or a small screwdriver under the bottom ‘of the wie clip and pry the clip out toward the inside of the ftoorer. 3. Liftup the slide a the front. The slide is free to move from tho front shelf support. 4, The drawer slide must be removed from the ear shelf support at approximately a 45 degree angle toward the center of the cabinet. 5. Pall the slide foward the front of the cabinet Note: Drawer slides do not require lubrication. Additional lubricant could impede moverent ofthe drawers when the lubricant is cold 11 Cleaning 41.4 Cleaning the Drawers or Shelv “To clean the drawers or shelves, use a solution of water and a rild detergent. These instructions are provided to assist ‘with the installation, initial setup, operation and ‘general maintenance of the recorder. 2 Installation ‘The chart recorder should be placed close enough to the unit to accommodate the length of the sensor provided. One convenient location for the recorder is on top of the control housing, Most refrigerators and freezers have an access port one inch in diameter, located in the rear of the cabinet. If your unit has an access port, use it to install the chart recorder sensor as follows: 1, Shut off the unit and let the temperature stabilize, ar room temperature. 2, Remove the plastic outer cap on the access port and the insolation. 3. Remove any shelves or drawers that impede access to the existing sensor. 4, Remove the inside access port cap. Save both the inner and outer caps; they will be reinstalled later. 5. Install the sensor probe through the access port and route it to the existing sensor inside the cabinet Mount the chart recorder sensor to the sensor bracket (or bottle, depending on the type of unit). 6. Cut splits into the two caps just large enough to slip over the chart recorder sensor wire. 7. Reinstall the inner and outer caps und the insulation, running the sensor wire through the splits in the caps. 8. Reinstall the shelves or drawers and restart the omit. If an access port has not been provided with your unit, locate the existing sensor and install the chart recorder probe at that location. 3 Setup And Operation ‘The recorder will start operating automatically when ‘the system is powered on. To prepare the recorder to function properly, you should perform the following steps: 1. Review Figure 1 on page 3 to become familiar with recorder features, 2, Open the recorder door to access the recorder. 3. For back-up power, connect the 9 volt DC battery located at the recorder’s upper right hand corner. 4.Tnstall clean chast paper (refer to Section 4.2 below). 5. Remove the plastic cap from the pen stylus. 6. Close the recorder door. After these steps the recorder will be ready for operation, Note that when you turn the power on for your unit, the recorder may not respond until the. system reaches temperatures within the recorder’s range. One package of pressure-sensitive.chart paper is provided with your recorder. During normal operation, a flashing LED indicates that either the main or battery backup power supply has been interrupted. In the event of an AC power failure, the recorder will continue sensing cabinet temperature and the chart will continue turning for approximately 24 hours with backup power provided by the 9-volt battery. Both the battery and main power are O.K. when the LED indicator glows continuously. 4.2 Changing Chart Paper To change the chart paper: 1. Locate the pressure-sensitive buttons at the front, upper left of the recorder panel. 2, Press and hold the change chart button (#3) for one second. The pen will move off the scale. 3. Unsorew the center nut, remove the old chart paper, and install the new chart paper. Carefully align the day and time with the reference mark on the recorder panel. 4, Replace the center nut and hand tighten, 5. Press the change chart button (#3) again to resume temperature recording. 4.3 Changing Temperature Range Program ‘This recorder is capable of operating in mutiple pre-programmed temperature ranges. The correct temperature range program was selected upon factory installation and will be retained even during power interruptions. If the temperature range is, wrong for any reason, it can be easily reprogrammed as follows: 1. Press change chart button #3. The pen arm will ‘move off the scale and the LED will glow continuously. 2. Pres and hold bution #1 for S seconds. The LED indicator will begin flashing. 3.
