Guidelines for the installation of Luxalon® Linear Ceilings.

In general a linear ceiling consists of four basic ceiling-elements:

panels, carriers, suspension hangers and edge-profiles. Optionally, with certain ceiling types,
the open joints between the panels can be closed with join profiles.

Applicable Types:
•75-150-225C
•84R
•84B
•84C
•30-80-130-180B
•30BD
•70U
•185U

Step 1. Checking the necessary components and tools

Check whether all delivered components comply with the original order and the shipping
documents. Check if all packages are in good order and not damaged.
Check whether the on-site measurements correspond with the installation drawing.
Check whether all tools required for the installation are available. For reference see the
chapter ”tools”.

Step 2. Marking the suspension points and ceiling level

Mark the position of the suspension

points (‘X’) on the structural ceiling
with a suitable tool (chalkline or laser).
Derive the measurements from the
installation drawing.

Step 4. Fixing the suspension points

There are two options for the fixing of the suspension points:
suspension height - 55mm

hole 60x6,5mm
rod hanger =
suspension height

Suspension rods plus adjustable springs Rigid suspension: Suspension element plus
threaded rods M5/M6

The suspensions have to be fixed to the structural ceiling with an appropriate fixing
method, using plugs and screws or bolts. The fixing method has to be approved by the
general contractor.

Step 5. Suspending the carriers

The first carrier has to be cut to the required

length, depending on the determined width of
the adaptor-panel along the ”starting” wall.

;@
!

Attach the carriers to the suspension-adjust- module size

ment spring (or to the threaded rod, using multipanel = 100 mm
a nut both on top and below the carrier). 12.5 mm
Bring the carrier roughly to the required level
by adjusting the suspensions.
Use only these 8 mm holes with
Luxalon® suspension adjustment spring

When the room is longer than 5,00 m

(= standard carrier-length), the consecutive
carriers have to be connected with a carrier-
splice. The carriersplice clicks on top of the
carriers and takes care of the continuation
of the carrier module.

point

300 max.

The last carrier (of the first line) is cut off in the same way as the first.

Consecutive lines of carriers are then suspended, in accordance with the installation
drawing (check for possible extra carriers in case of panel splicing).
Requirements for correct carrier suspension

The carriers have to hang parallel to each

other, while the prongs of the carriers have
to be aligned with each other.

90˚

To align the carriers: click-on some

panels (ca. 1,-m c.o.c.) and check the
angle between carriers and panels.
The angle should be 90˚.
90˚

@;;@
;@;@ The orientation of the suspension holes on
top of the carrier should correspond with
the calculation of the construction see

;@;@
picture in example on page 5) and be
the same for each line of carriers.

The carriers have to hang level.

To level the construction use a
spiritlevel, a clear ”gardenhose”
filled with water or laser-
equipment with a rotating head.

Step 6. Integrating installations

If applicable, bring in possible installations (e.g. lightfixtures, air-conditioning grilles etc.).

Most of the manufacturers provide their fluorescent
fixing bracket lamps with brackets to rest the fixtures on the carriers
of the ceiling.

fixing bracket

Lamp parallel to panels Lamp perpendicular to panels

To take up the weight of the lamps, the carriers next to the lamps require additional
suspension points. See chapter “Lighting” for more info.

Step 7. Installing the panels (and join profiles)

Panels are normally supplied made to length, but on site cutting of panels is required
in case of:
• tolerances in the construction
• columns or other building construction parts obstructing the run of the panels
• cutting around lightfixtures, airgrilles and other installations.

Incidental cutting of the panels can be done as follows:

scratch the backside of the panel

bottom with a sharp knife, cut the
cut
panelsides (when cutting in width)
and break off the excessive part
of the panel.

cut

In case of more cutting work, one can consider using

either a pair of electrical nibbling scissors or a circular
saw fitted with a fine teethed blade suited to cut
aluminium.
Clipping the panels on the carriers

Open ceilings:The panels are clipped on

the carriers by hooking the panel
around one prong and then pressing
the panel home with a rotating
movement.

Closed ceiling:The panels are clipped

on the carrier by laying the panel
against one prong and then pressing
the panel home between the prongs
with a rotating movement.

Note:
• Each panel is printed on the inside with a branding (ca. 1,-m ¢ to ¢), consisting
of the following elements:

brand name production codes

• Applying the “installation direction” arrow is very relevant in case of 75-150-225C

closed ceilings (to arrange for neat joint lines) and in case of special finishes
(e.g. brushed, metal) to avoid differences in panel appearances.

Panelsplicing

The maximum standard panellength is 6000 mm. It is possible to produce longer panels but
for reasons of handling, this is not common practice. In case of lenghts > 6 m panels are
usually spliced. Splicing is done by inserting a connecting piece in panelends.

splice

panel

* Only factory-made panel-ends are spliced

Note:
The function of the panel splice is to bring the two panel ends in line with each other.
The panel splice is not a physical connection, so normal cantilever spans apply and carriers
have to be placed on max. 150 mm from both panelends joints.

Splicing can be done in one or two patterns:

carriers are limited.

Note:
In case of 75-150-225C Closed Ceiling the preferred splicing is with staggered joints.
Inserting join profiles

There are four different join profiles

The V-shaped recessed join profiles are inserted

before the panels.

The U-shaped recessed join profiles as well as the

Flush join profile can only be inserted after the panels
are installed.

The ”Softwave” join profiles can only be inserted after

the panels are installed.

Insert the leading end of the join profile with a slight

angle into the joint between the panels.
Then by applying pressure on the opposite edge press
the join profile home into the joint. Repeat the operation
along the whole length of the join profile.

Adaptor panels

hold-down clip

”Wall-to-wall” installation

The ”adaptor”- panels on both ends of the room go on the edge cover profile with the cut
end. Fixing clips are used to lock partial outer panels. To prevent an upward movement of
the panels, sufficient hold-down clips has to be inserted in the edge cover profiles.
