Safety information

Classification of the safety information

WARNING! The WARNING! safety indication refers to a risk of personal injury.

CAUTION! The CAUTION! safety indication refers to a risk of damage to prop-

erty.

ATTENTION! The ATTENTION! safety indication refers to a risk which can cause
equipment to become unserviceable.

IMPORTANT! The IMPORTANT! designation indicates application information

and other particularly important information.

Knowledge of the User Manual

The User Manual for this unit constitutes an integral part of this Ser-
vice Manual. For performing servicing activities it is assumed that the
Art.-Nr.: 80116-901

reader has knowledge of the User Manual, especially procedures for

installation, putting into operation, and handling.
11.07

Protection from the risk of electric shock

WARNING! The supply voltage must match the voltage specified on the rating
plate. Connect the unit / the equipment cart to a properly installed
grounded outlet. Only use the ERBE power cord or an equivalent
power cord for this purpose. The power cord must bear the
national test symbol.

For safety reasons, multiple outlets and extension cords should

not be used. If their use is unavoidable, they also must be provided
with proper grounding.

WARNING! Unplug the power cord from the outlet before exchanging parts of
the unit or cleaning it.

WARNING! Do not plug a wet power cord into the unit or into an outlet.

WARNING! Do not touch any unprotected wires or conductive surfaces while

the unit is opened and under voltage.

7 / 48
1 • Safety information

WARNING! Blown line fuses may only be replaced by a competent technician.

Only replacement fuses of the rating specified on the unit's name
plate may be used. Before resuming operation the unit must be
subjected to a performance test by a competent technician.

Electrostatically sensitive components

CAUTION! This unit contains electrostatically sensitive components. Work at
an anti-static workplace while repairing the unit. Wear a grounding
armband while working with electrostatically sensitive compo-
nents. Hold the circuit boards by their non-conducting corners.
Use an anti-static container for transporting electrostatically sensi-
tive components and the circuit boards.

Liability and warranty

ATTENTION! Adjustments, technical tests, modifications, maintenance and
repair work may only be performed by ERBE or persons trained by
ERBE. If the work is not performed by trained persons, ERBE
accepts no liability and warranty rights become void.

ATTENTION! Only use ERBE spare parts. The manufacturer accepts no liability
and the warranty claim becomes void if original spare parts are not
used.

Description of the various assemblies

Line input and power supply

The ERBEJET 2 is equipped with an AC/DC converter with interna-
tional input voltage range. There is therefore no need to switch over
for different power supply voltages. However, it must be ensured that
the value of the power supply fuse corresponding to the data on the
rating plate.

WARNING! Make sure you observe the safety regulations when using line volt-
age!

The AC/DC converter has an output voltage of 24 V. This serves as

a supply voltage for all connected assemblies. Output signals indicat-
ing the proper status of the assembly can also be picked off.

Mainboard
The central control processor is located on the mainboard. It operates
the user interface and assumes the communication with other mod-
ules connected to the ERBE Communication Bus (ECB). It also reg-
ulates the pump functioning by controlling the two drive motors.
The 24 V supply voltage is fed to the mainboard. A DC/DC converter
generates the operating voltage of 5 Volt necessary for the electron-
ics from this.
Art.-Nr.: 80116-901

The 24 V are then looped to the drives via a current measuring device
whose measured values are evaluated for redundancy purposes.
11.07

The drives are connected to the (internal) CAN bus via a further con-
nection.

Control panel
The control panel consists of an LCD display with a resolution of 240
x 128 pixels and a membrane keypad with 6 keys.

Drives
The stepper motors are supply via a connection to the 24 V operating
voltage.
They receive their control commands via a second connection. Com-
munication is via a CAN-based interface (CANopen). This enables
autonomous processing of movement commands. All travel move-
ments are controlled and monitored by the CANopen Master module,
which is realized as software on the processor.
The current position and speed values, and also further parameters
(e.g. temperature), can be called up via this interface. The traveling
speed is kept constant by the integrated control.
The use of two drive trains makes it possible to generate an uninter-
rupted, constant jet of water at the applicator. The sum of the forward
traveling speeds of the two drives must be kept constant at every time

11 / 48
2 • Circuit Descriptions

point for this. As soon as a side of the drive has come close to the
front end of the travel path, this undergoes a controlled braking. The
second side is accelerated to the same extent. While this then moves
forward, the first side is moved back. It then waits until the second
side has come close to the front limit stop etc.
The mechanical retention of the pump unit in the pump shaft, as well
as engagement of the plungers with the corresponding catches, is
achieved with mechanical sliders and rockers as well as suitable trav-
el movements. In other words, there are no additional actuators for
the engagement. The disengagement also occurs in this manner.

CAN Board
Connection to the (external) CAN interface (ECB). An ERBEJET 2
footswitch can be connected.
Two ECB connections, for connecting the (optional) ESM 2 suction
module and for connecting to the VIO system are also provided.

Sensor
A bifurcated photoelectric sensor is mounted in the pump shaft. It is
interrupted by a plastic part mounted on the pump unit. This enables
the system to detect whether a pump unit is completely pushed into
the shaft.
This is particularly important when inserting the pump unit, as the

Art.-Nr.: 80116-901
coupling process cam only be started then.

Switch

11.07
A microswitch is also installed in the pump shaft. It is pressed as soon
as a pump unit has been pushed into the pump shaft, also if only par-
tially pushed in. In other words, the microswitch is used to detect
whether the pump unit has been completely removed from the shaft
e.g. when demobilizing the instrument.

Test programs

Call up Test program mode

1. Call up the "Settings" window and select the "Program/Setup"

menu item.
Art.-Nr.: 80116-901
11.07

2. Select the "SERVICE" menu item. The unit switches to the "Key-
word entry" window.

3. Enter keyword JET2:

– Select the first letter using the right up and down buttons.
– Confirm the selected letter with the left, center selection but-
ton. The unit automatically jumps to the entry for the next let-
ter.
– Repeat the process until the entire keyword has been entered.

13 / 48

4. Confirm keyword with "OK". The device switches to the Service

level. From V 1.1.x on, the following Service settings are avail-
able in English only – regardless of the language setting selected
on the device.

5. Scroll to the Test program setting using the up and down buttons.

Art.-Nr.: 80116-901
11.07
6. Call up Test program mode with "OK".

7. The required test program can now be selected using the up and
down buttons and confirmed with "OK".

Exit Test program mode

1. Keep pressing the selection button beside the "return" menu item
until the unit returns to the "Settings" window.

Description of Test programs

TP Homing
The reference position for drive 1 and 2 is determined with this Test
program.
The Test program can start a movement to the mechanical limit stop.
At the same time, the drive moves backwards until the blockade po-
sition is reached. This position is then set to zero and serves as a ref-
erence point for each further movement of the drives.

IMPORTANT! A referencing is carried out each time the unit is switched on, if no
pump unit is in the shaft.

TP Movement
Drives 1 and 2 are moved manually with this Test program.

ATTENTION! It is necessary to successfully perform a referencing beforehand

with the test program "TP Homing" if the Test program is to func-
tion without error. Without a correct reference position, a manual
movement of the drives can damage the unit!
