TheWorldAdvancing
TheIndustrialRevolutionbeganin Englandandtechnologybeganto produceevenmoreandmore.More andMoreinventionswerebeing createdeverydaychangingtheway peoplelived,worked,andtravelled. SteamenginesandBoatswerecreated foreasytravelandcargocarry. TheIndustrializationIdeasoonbegan tospreadtoallcountriesinEurope andtotheUnitedStates.Soon enough,thewholeworldwasmore advancedintechnologyand manufacturing.Societybeganto improvebutevenso,pollution,poor people,andunhealthyliving conditionsdidaswell.

Industrialization made many new factories pop up all along the countries creating new jobs, and new manufactured goods.

ThereweremanynewIdeas Industrial revolution 1 presentedduringtheIndustrial Revolution.ThethreebigIdeaswere

SocialismandCommunism.Adam smithwasapopularwriterwho U S I N D defendedtheideasofCapitalism. Otherreformistswentagainstitwith theideaofSocialism,andKarlMarx introducedhisownideaof CommunismthroughtheCommunist Manifesto,apamphlethewrote.

The Problem
Inaplaceoftheoldbourgeoissociety,withitsclassesandclassantagonisms, weshallhaveanassociationwhichthefreedevelopmentofeachisthecondition TheproblemthatKarlMarxis facingisthegovernment.The forthefreedevelopmentofall CapitalistthinkersofSmith,
MalthusandRicardoopposed governmenteffortstohelp poorworkers.Theythought thatitwouldonlyupsetthe freemarketsystemand undermineproductionof wealthinsociety.Thesetwo beliefsbroughtthesocietys underclassdownintothe gutterwhilethebigcompany ownersandupperclasswas sittinggainingevenmore money,nothelpingthepoor.

Theamountofthe populationinthevery beginningoftheBritish parliamentwasonly5%of thewholepopulation.This wasaverysmallpercentage andamountofthe population.Peoplestill wantedmore representationandwere gettingmadatthe government. Becausethegovernment Reform 2 wasnotabidingwiththe

andmorebegantorise againstit,Emmeline Pankhurstwasawoman whofoughtforwomans suffrage,shehadformed theWSPUthatpeacefully foughtforwomensrights. TheWSPUbecamethemost militantorganizationfor womansrightsandwasthe biggestinfluenceforgetting reforminthenation.

TheGoal
TheWomensSocialandPolitical Union(theWSPU)wastheleading militantorganizationcampaigningfor WomenssuffrageinEngland.Their memberswereknownassuffragettes. TheWSPUwasformedbyEmmeline PankhurstonOctober10,1903bysix womenwhobecamethegroup leaders.Itwasawomenonly organizationthatcampaignedfor socialreformsandforanextensionof womenssuffrage.Theybelievedin sexualequality. Theyhadasloganthatbetter describedtheirmilitantbehaviorthat wasdeedsnotwords.Atfirstthe WSPUonlyhadpeacefulcampaigns inthebeginning,beingpartofthe nonmilitantNationalUnionof WomensSuffrageSocieties.The membersofthisgrouphoweverbroke apartintotheWSPUinorderto becomemoremilitantandgetmoreof areactionfromthegovernment.At firsttheyhadalackofsuccessby whattheyweredoingbypersuading politiciansthroughmeetings.

Thisbillhoweverwasquicklytalked outandignored.Thepublicityofit greatlyincreasedthegrowthofthe groupleadingtobemorepopular, powerfulandinfluentialintheirfight togainWomenssuffrage.

TheEvents
Inordertogainmoresignificancein theirfightforsuffrage,theWSPUled byEmmelinePankhursthadtofight fortheirrights.Theybeganaseriesof demonstrationsinlobbiesof Parliamentcausingmultiplearrestsof thegrowingnumbersofthegroup. Theymostlyfocusedonattacking whichpoliticalpartythatwasin governmentandrefusedtosupport legislation. Therewasasplitinthegroupwhich causedtheWomensFreedomLeague toform.Afterthesplitanew newspaperforthegroupwasmade, VotesforWomenwhichwasthe groupssownnewspaper. Thesuffragettesbecameevenmore militantinleaderyearsbringingthe protestsintoprisoneven.Their protestsalsoincludedbreakingof windowsofshopsandbuildingsin ordertogainmoreattention.They alsohadmultiplepublicspeakings fromEmmelinePankhurstandother WSPUleadersinordertogetmore attentiononwomenssuffrage. Theorganizationsufferedsomesplits Anewsuffrageactwasintroducedin causingdisorganizationforprotests. 1910butthisjustledtoevenmore TheeditorsofVotesforWomenwere destructioninpublicareasbecauseit expelledin1912causingtheWSPUto wasdelayedinitspurpose.Thisledto launchanewjournal.Anothergroup Reform 4 burningofstatelyhomesand oftheWSPUtheEastLondon bombingofpublicbuildings,alsoto

Mostofthememberssupportedthe efforttofightinthewarbutasmall amountstartedtheSuffragettesofthe WomensSocialPoliticalUnionand theIndependentWomensSocialand PoliticalUnion.Thesesgroups however,werelessinfluentialintheir fightforwomenssuffrageanddidnt havemuchsayinit. TheWSPUlostpublicattentionand wasdissolvedin1917,andChristabel andEmmelinePankhurstfoundedthe WomensParty.Whichwasaminor politicalpartyintheUK.Thisgroup claimedthatthefightfortheWorld Warwasmoreimportantthanthe fightforwomanssuffrageatthetime. Notuntilafterthewaswomens suffragerecognized.Inmost countries,fulluniversalsuffrage withtheinclusionofwoman followeduniversalmalesuffrageby tentotwentyyearsintheearly1900s.
