THE ESSENE COMMUNIONS:

THEIR PURPOSE AND MEANING

Hear me, Sons of Light, for I will impart to you the gift of tongues, that by speaking to your Earthly Mother in the morning, and to your Heavenly Father in the evening, you may go closer and loser to oneness with the kingdoms of earth and heaven, that oneness for which the Son of Man is destined from the beginning of the times. ~Essene Gospel of Peace

The symbolic Tree of Life enabled the Essenes to understand how they were surrounded by forces, or angels, from the visible world of nature and the invisible cosmic world. The Communions show how each of these forces is utilized in man's body and consciousness. The Communions are said to have been originated by Enoch, or Enoch, and were again brought forth by Moses to Israel, the elect of the people, on the two stone tablets he first brought down from Mount Sinai. The second set of tablets he brought down contained the Ten Commandments, the outer teaching, which he gave to the rest of the people, Israel. But the small minority, Israel, or the Essenes, from that time on, held their communions morning and evening, to the earthly and heavenly forces, regulating their lives according to the inspiration received from them. The Communions three immediate objectives The first is to make man conscious of the activities of the different forces and forms of energy which surround him and perpetually flow toward him from nature and the cosmos. The second is to make him aware of the organs and centers within his being which can receive these currents of energy. The third is to establish a connection between the organs and centers and their, corresponding forces so as to absorb, control and utilize each current. The Essenes knew that man has different bodily systems to absorb the different energies from food, air, water, solar radiation and so on; and they knew that each individual must control and utilize these powers for himself though his own conscious efforts and that no one could do it for him. The Communions were practiced each morning and evening, a different earthly force being meditated upon each morning upon arising, and a different heavenly force each evening before retiring, each day of the week. This made a total of fourteen communions during each seven day period. At each of the Communions the designated force was concentrated upon, contemplated and meditated upon so that its power could be absorbed and then consciously utilized.

The Morning Communions

The Earthly Mother - Saturday Morning. The purpose of this Communion is to establish unity between man's physical organism and the nutritive forces of the earth. The Angel of Earth - Sunday Morning. The purpose of the Communion was to transform the generative powers in life into the regeneration of the human body. The Angel Of Life - Monday Morning. This Communion was dedicated to the life, health and vitality of the human organism and that of the whole planet and brought about a dynamic unity between them. The Angel of Joy - Tuesday Morning. All forms of beauty were joyously contemplated in this Communion in order to make man conscious of the beauties of nature and the joy within himself in every part of his being. The Angel of the Sun - Wednesday Morning. The purpose of this Communion was to become receptive to the solar energies and establish a perfect unity between the self and the sun and distribute its power throughout the body. The Angel of Water - Thursday Morning. In this Communion all forms of water were contemplated, rivers, creeks, rain, the sap in trees and plants and so on, establishing as a living reality the unity between the waters of the body and the waters of the planet. The Angel of Air - Friday Morning. The purpose of this Communion was to make man conscious of the dynamic unity between air and life and that respiration is the link between the organism and the cosmos.

The Evening Communions

In the same way that the seven mornings of the week were devoted to the forces of the visible world, the seven evenings were given to the powers of the invisible realms, or the Angels of the Heavenly Father. The Angel of Eternal Life - Saturday Evening. This Communion was the Essenes' central communion, dedicated to the totality of cosmic laws and to the realization that the universe is a process of continuous creation in which man must take his part. The Angel of Creative Work - Sunday Evening. The purpose of the Communion was to teach the importance of creative work and its paramount role in the individual's evolution. The Angel of Peace - Monday Evening. The Communion with the Angel of Peace was dedicated to man's deep inner intuition of peace within himself and with all the infinite universe. The Angel of Power - Tuesday Evening. The Essenes conceived of the whole universe as a cosmic ocean of life in which currents of cosmic power are continually uniting all forms of life on all planets and connecting man with all other organisms. The Angel of Love - Wednesday Evening. Love was considered by the Essenes to be the highest creative feeling and they held that a cosmic ocean of love exists everywhere uniting all forms of life and, that life itself is an expression of love. The Angel of Wisdom - Thursday Evening. Thought was held by the Essenes to be both a cosmic and a physical function. They considered the cosmic ocean of thought pervading all space, containing all thoughts, as the highest and most powerful of all energies. It never diminishes and is never lost. The Heavenly Father - Friday Evening. This Communion with the Heavenly Father, was the Essenes' central communion, dedicated to the totality of cosmic laws and to the realization that the universe is a process of continuous creation in which man must take his part.

The Essene Daily Communion For SUNDAY

THE DEEPENING: Spend time outside. Hold in your hands a stone and explore it intently. Know that the Earth and all that dwells therein is but a reflection of the Heavenly Father. MORNING COMMUNION: Angel of EARTH I invoke thee; for the Lord hath created this world to be a garden, where the magic of herbs and the secrets of plants nourish and heal the bodies of men. And as I regenerate my body, I regenerate my soul, and as each morning comes, I shall embrace thee. MEDITATION: I feel my body become one with the earth. From the richness of the soil springs the fruits that you share...... and I am the rock. My center belongs to that which was kindled long ago. Bring that consciousness back to me now. NOON CONTEMPLATION: Peace with the EARTHLY MOTHER: Blessed is the Child of Light who knoweth the Earthly Mother and brings peace unto her. Know that thy Mother is in thee and thou art in her, for she is the giver of life. EVENING COMMUNION: Angel of CREATIVE WORK I invoke thee; for he who walks with the Angel of work has within him a field always fertile, where healing herbs and beautiful flowers blossom and grow. The mind that is idle is full of the weeds of discontentment, but he who has found his task shall not be in want of other blessings. And as each evening comes, I shall embrace thee. THE BLESSING: The table in my house is full and I have much to share. I gather in the fruits of my labors. I work with the talents I have. In the labor of right livelihood, I find the greatest joys of life, and my cupboard overflows with its blessings.

The Daily Essene Communion For MONDAY

THE DEEPENING: God so made life and ALL living things that they, by the living word, would teach the laws of the Heavenly Father and the Earthly Mother, to the sons and the daughters of men MORNING COMMUNION: Angel of LIFE I invoke thee; for in everything that has life is the Holy Law written. In the grass, in the flowers, in the forest and in the trees. In the animals, and the birds and the fishes in the seas. All life speaks to us and if we listen, we can understand the tongue and the will of the living God. MEDITATION: The life-force within me cries out. That which I am longs for experience and to know and to understand. May I gain the wisdom of the connectedness with all that there is, for I am the one, and I am the many. NOON CONTEMPLATION: Peace with CULTURE. Though thy brothers be of different origin, we all do toil in the vineyard of the Earthly Mother. We all lift our voices in praise of the Heavenly Father, and together, we all break the bread of wisdom and share in the Holy feast. EVENING COMMUNION: Angel of PEACE I invoke thee. Cast your blessings to the peoples of the world and to all that are weary or do suffer. And as long as the sun and moon endure, and throughout all the generations to come, may peace prevail over the earth as the waters cover the sea. And in remembrance of thee, I shall ever greet my brother by your name, and as each evening comes, I shall embrace thee. Peace be with you. THE BLESSING: The whispering of a flame invokes the peace within me. Reminding me of my task and of my journey. I have been given a peaceful heart and my path is before me. I joyfully take up the task, to reach the center, and to realize that I am a channel for peace.

The Essene Daily Communion For TUESDAY

THE DEEPENING: The heavens smile and the earth celebrates as the children of light sing the songs of life; and the bodily world of thy Earthly Mother, and the celestial worlds of thy Heavenly Father, give praise to the joyous voices. MORNING COMMUNION: Angel of JOY I invoke thee. I come before you with the voice of the wind for thy Holy Law is within me. Descend upon this Earth and spread your blessings to ALL living beings. Touch those who walk in darkness so they may see the light, and partake in the Holy Communions, and eat of the fruits of your blessings; And as each morning comes, I shall embrace thee. MEDITATION: Meditate on the image of a newborn child, seeing the world for the very first time. Experience the newness, be the child. NOON CONTEMPLATION: Peace with Humanity, Social Peace. Let thy love be as the Sun which shines on ALL creatures of the earth, and does not favor even one blade of grass for another. EVENING COMMUNION: Angel of POWER I invoke thee; descend upon my body and help me to direct my thoughts, my actions, my words and my deeds; And as each evening comes, I shall embrace thee. THE BLESSING: Within me lives the meditating Monk. The builder of the temple. In this season of inner reflection I shall discover the center for I am guided by the light from within.

The Essene Daily Communion For WEDNESDAY

THE DEEPENING: Let thy love be as the Angel of Sun which shines upon ALL the creatures of the earth, and does not favor even one blade of grass for another. MORNING COMMUNION: Angel of SUN I invoke thee. Thou art the fountain of light that warms our days and lights our path. It is by your glory that man is born to live the words of the Holy Law, and as each morning comes, I shall embrace thee. MEDITATION: This day brings to the world the divine blessings of the glorious Sun and its radiant gifts of warmth and of light. How mindlessly we go about our days shielded from your nourishment and unable the receive your blessed gifts. Without fail, I shall find time this day to take the gift of your light into my soul, so that my own light may shine unto others with the same power and glory that you have given unto me. NOON CONTEMPLATION: Peace with the FAMILY. He who hath found peace with his brother hath entered the kingdom of love and shall experience the Oneness of God. The Heavenly Father knoweth the hearts and the minds of his Children, and their inheritance shall forever be Peace. EVENING COMMUNION: Angel of LOVE I invoke thee; for love is the first blessing of the Heavenly Father. Yea, it was said in the days of old, thou shalt love thy brother as thyself; and to every one who loveth another is born of the Heavenly Order, and shall drink from the well of eternity. And as each evening comes, I shall embrace thee. THE BLESSING: The warmth of this day has filled me. How natural it is to feel this blessing and to radiate it back into the world. I look into the eyes of another and see only shared divinity. The boundaries have disappeared. You are no longer a stranger to my heart.

The Essene Daily Communion For THURSDAY

THE DEEPENING: Hold a bowl of water as you commune with the Angel this day. When finished drink the water in deep reverence and feel it, like a rushing current of a river, fill your body and soul. MORNING COMMUNION: Angel of WATER I invoke thee; whether lake or stream or water of the well, enter my body and become my blood. Give unto me the gift that sustains all life. Your blessings hath cleansed my spirit and quenched the thirst of my soul and as each morning comes, I shall embrace thee. MEDITATION: As the wave of natures glory reaches its crest and then flows on, I have gained perspective. The waters that rage in the rivers and the rains that fall from the sky are the same as the blood that flows in the veins of my body. The Earth and I are one. NOON CONTEMPLATION: Peace with the MIND. Evil thoughts cannot abide in a mind filled with the Light of the Law. He who hath found Peace with the Mind, hath learned to soar beyond the realm of the Angels; For I tell you truly, the lightning that cleaves the mighty oak, or the quaking that opens great cracks in the earth are as the play of children compared with the powers of thought. EVENING COMMUNION: Angel of WISDOM I invoke thee; for only through the wisdom of the holy law doth the Angels guide the children of light. Descend upon my thinking body and enlighten my thoughts, my mind, my intentions and my deeds. To follow the holy law is the root of your blessings, and as each evening comes, I shall embrace thee. THE BLESSING: When at first a fledgling bird tries to fly, his wings cannot support him, and he falls again and again to the earth. But he tries again and one day he soars aloft, leaving the earth and his nest far behind. And so is it with the thoughts and intentions of the Sons of Men. The longer one walks with the angels and keeps their Law, the stronger ones thoughts shall become in Holy Wisdom. The day will come when the thoughts of men will overcome even the kingdom of death and then shall he soar to everlasting life in the kingdoms of the Heavenly Father.

Essene Daily Communion For Friday

Sabbath and Fasting begins at sundown.

THE DEEPENING: In the gentle breeze of the forests and in the winds of the fields, thou shalt find the Angel of Air. Breath long and deeply, for the rhythm of thy breath is the key of knowledge which will unlock the secrets of the Holy Law. MORNING COMMUNION: Angel of AIR, I invoke thee; for no man may come before the face of God whom the Angel of Air hath not passed. For thy body must breath the air of the Earthly Mother before thy spirit may breath the Holy Law of the Heavenly Father. And as each morning comes, I shall embrace thee. MEDITATION: This morning brings a different breeze. The winds of inner change and reflection. These winds blow strong as I unfurl my sails and set a course for yet another journey. May the wind be my guide, and the calmness of the truth lead my way. NOON CONTEMPLATION: Peace with the BODY: As thou movest the air with thy breath, movest thy body with thy soul. Eat of the blessed fruits from the Earthly Mother, and walk in the light of the Holy Law; for he who hath found peace with the body, hath built a holy temple wherein may forever dwell the spirit of God. EVENING COMMUNION: The HEAVENLY FATHER and I are One; Thou hast made known unto me the deepest of mysteries. By thy fourteen fruits of the Tree of Life thou hast directed my heart, and guided my steps, that I may walk in your presence and dwell eternally in the essence of the divine. THE BLESSING: What is man, that thou art be so mindful of he? Thou hast made a covenant with the Children of Light, and thou hast given unto all the Holy Law. To some it has been lost, and to some it is forgotten. But to some it is lived, and those whom walk with thy Holy Angels shall dwell forever in the kingdoms of God.

The Essene Daily Communion For SATURDAY

The Sabbath (Ends at Sundown)

THE DEEPENING: Fasting is the first principle. Fast from negative thoughts, words and deeds. Fast from ego, pride and desire. Fast from all physical ills and Ye shall behold the strength and the wisdom of the spirit. MORNING COMMUNION: The EARTHLY MOTHER and I are one. Blessed is the child who knoweth the Earthy Mother, for she is the provider and the sustainer of life. Her harvest becomes thy body, her waters become thy blood, her winds will carry thy spirit, and as each morning comes, I shall embrace her. MEDITATION: The richness of the Mother's garden surrounds us. The forces of nature toil unendingly for the benefit of all. For this we are blessed. The kingdom which guides and nurtures the plants and the forests is yet another manifestation of the Mother's love for us, and we within this kingdom must return her blessings with respect, with caring, and with love. NOON CONTEMPLATION: Peace with the HEAVENLY FATHER: Ye that love thy Heavenly Father do Ye then his bidding; Walk Ye with his Holy Angels and you shall find peace within his Holy Law. EVENING COMMUNION: Angel of ETERNAL LIFE I invoke thee; descend upon my soul and bless my spirit with the splendor and the knowledge of eternal life. And as each evening comes, I shall embrace thee. THE BLESSING: The food upon my table shares its life with me. And as this life nourishes my body, one day my body shall nourish this earth. And until that time shall pass, I shall return her blessings with kindness, with respect, and with my love.

Invocations, Meditations and Brachot (Blessings/Prayers)before performing the Great Work:

Kabbalistic Rituals to be done before Tikkun Chatzos (Devotions during Dawn such as Torah Study and meditations) and Midnight Avodah (Worship/Service) for the Invocation of the Divine Presence (Shekhinah HaKodesh) of Blessed Infinite One, its Angelic Hosts and all the Souls of the Tzaddikim (Righteous) and the Chassidim (Pious) for spiritual guidance, support and illumination especially when performing theurgical works such as Meditations of the ShemHaMeforash/HaShem Ayin-Beth (Seventy-Two Letter Names of Angels) and Hisbodedus (Meditations).

Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Kochav (Pentacle): This ritual is performed by all advanced students and masters of the Kabbalah and is to be found in within the domain of Practical Kabbalah (higher teachings of Theurgy or Divine Magic) which was passed down by Moshe to Aharon to which he passed it to the Kohanim for the succeeding generations until this ritual became known to King Solomon (who utilized it in order to lay the Foundation Stone of the Beit HaMikdash or Holy Temple). It is used to establish a Circle or a Point wherein the Shechinah (Divine Presence) of the Holy One, Blessed Be He, may dwell. It sets the four cardinal Angels (Raphael, Michael, Gavriel and Auriel) in its place so that it may serve as guardians which will protect and shield the practitioner from negative influences during the Great Work. It also heightens Spiritual Consciousness and uplifts the levels of the Soul in order to establish a successful Channeling of Divine Light from the Upper Worlds. The Four Cardinals Points are invoked in order for it to serve as a Merkabah (Chariot) for the practitioner which leads and guides him to the domain of the PaRDeS.

Take an athame (ritual sword) in the right hand (or use the index finger instead). Face EAST.
Perform the Kabbalistic Cross as follows: Imagine, at the first word intoned, a brilliant white Light descend from above. This symbolizes the Light of the Sfirah of Tiferet

Touch the forehead and vibrate ATAH (Unto You) Imagine that same brilliant white light form a 6 inch diameter sphere just above the crown of your head. Touch the middle of the solar plexus and vibrate MALKUTH (Kingdom) Imagine a shaft of light descending from the Crown Sphere and descend to the feet where another 6 inch sphere expands just under your feet.

Touch the right shoulder and vibrate VE-GEVURAH (and Power) Imagine a 6 inch sphere of brilliant white light appear just next to the right shoulder.

Touch the left shoulder and vibrate VE-GEDULAH (and Glory) Imagine a shaft of light emerge from the right Sphere and cross your breast to expand and form another Sphere at your left shoulder.

Clasp the hands before you and vibrate LE-OLAHM (for ever) At this point imagine clearly the cross of light as it extends through your body.

Hands as before, with the dagger between fingers, point up, vibrate AMEN Note: Any image or figure traced in the air with the finger, dagger or other magical instrument, is to be imagined in brilliant scintillating white Light. In more advanced working, other colors may be used. Make sure that all images drawn are correct, as brilliant as possible, and complete. The beginning and end of a drawn Pentagram must come completely together.

Draw, in the air facing EAST, a banishing Earth Pentagram as shown in the diagram, and bringing the point of the dagger to the center of the Pentagram, vibrate the Name Y H V H and mentally vibrate the three invocations of protection HELION, MELION, TETRAGRAMMATON YHVH (pronounced YUD HEI VAV HEI)

Imagine that your voice carries forward to the LIMITS of the UNIVERSE.

11. Without moving the dagger in any other direction, trace a semicircle before you as you turn toward the SOUTH. Again trace the Pentagram, bring the dagger to the center of it, and vibrate the Name ADONAI and mentally vibrate the three invocations of protection, (pronounced AH-DON-NAY)

12. Again, trace the semicircle with the dagger to the WEST, trace the Penta- gram, bringing the dagger to the center, and vibrate the Name EHYEH and mentally vibrate the three invocations of protection, (pronounced EHYEH)

13. Then, turn towards the NORTH, while tracing the circle, trace the Pentagram, bring the point of the dagger to the center and vibrate the Name AGLA and mentally vibrate the three invocations of protection, (pronounced either AH-GAH-LAH or ATAH GIBOR LE-OLAM ADONAI)

Return to the EAST, completing tracing the circle of brilliant white Light, bringing the dagger point to the center of the EAST Pentagram and now, vocally vibrate the three invocations of protection. 15. Extend the arms in the form of a cross, say: BEFORE ME (then vibrate) RFAEL (pronounced RAH-PHYEEHL) Imagine a scintillating brilliant white Archangel in front of you and facing you. In his/her right hand is a magical Sword held with the point upright. The background is a pale, pure, bright yellow. Cherubs can be imagined near the Archangel. Imagine a gentle, refreshing breeze, cleansing and purifying the air.

16. Then, say: BEHIND ME (then vibrate) GAVRIEL (pronounced GAH-BREE-EHL) Imagine a scintillating brilliant white Archangel behind you and facing you, holding in their right hand an exquisite silver Chalice. He/she is standing on a Cerulean-blue ocean and dolphins or mermaids are nearby. Imagine feeling the mist and cool spray of the ocean breeze.

17. Then, say: AT MY RIGHT HAND (then vibrate) MIKAEL (pronounced MEE-CHYE-EHL) Imagine a scintillating brilliant white Archangel at your right, facing you, and holding in their right hand a transparent scarlet red Wand with a scintillate pure diamond top. Waves of scarlet, red-orange and orange fire in the background. Also, SEKHMET, with a scarlet disk above her head, emerald green Uraeus, scarlet dress from just below breasts, tight-fitting, down to her ankles, is in the flames. She holds, in her left hand, a scarlet-red lotus wand. In her right hand, she holds an emerald-green ankh. Small black salamanders can be seen moving among the flames. Imagine you feel the heat and power emanating from the SOUTH.

18. Then, say: AT MY LEFT HAND (then vibrate) OHRIEL (pronounced AWE-REE-EHL) Imagine a scintillating brilliant white Archangel at your left, facing you, and holding between their hands a Disk with a scintillating white Pentagram in the center. The ground is russet-brown, the leaves of the trees are olivegreen, there are black shadows from the trees in a number of places, and the light is citrine (light yellow-green.) Feel the solidity of the Earth, and imagine the odor of the leaves and muskiness of the ground.

19. Now, say: ABOUT ME FLAMES THE KOCHAV AND IN THE COLUMN SHINES THE MAGEN DAVID.

Imagine the complete circle of brilliant white light at whose quadrants are the 4 Pentagrams. At the center is the Kabbalistic Cross of Light extended through one's body.

20. Repeat the Kabbalistic cross, and, according to some occultists, stamp your right foot at the conclusion of the complete operation. The Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram is performed preliminary to any magical operation and precedes the Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram.
