Styles Set #59: “Ballroom Dancing”
Styles for Band-in-a-Box ®
Introduction and Overview
Please note: Some features found in these styles require Band-in-a-Box 2006 or later. The styles will play fine on previous
versions but the “instrument change in the ‘b’ section” feature will be unavailable.
Thank you for purchasing Styles Set #59, with 20 great new “Ballroom Dancing” styles for Band-in-a-Box.
You might have noticed that Ballroom Dancing has recently had quite a resurgence – as indicated by the popularity of
network TV shows like Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and others. It seems like many people of all
ages are interested in reviving this elegant pastime and learning some dance steps.
With this in mind, we thought that now would be a great time to bring you a Styles Set devoted exclusively to Ballroom
Dancing styles. Some of the dance styles and rhythm feels we’ve included are Foxtrot, Cha Cha, East Coast Groove, Jive,
Lindy Hop, Mambo, Paso Doble, Rumba, Quickstep, Samba, Tango, Polka, Texas 2-Step, Slow Waltz, Viennese Waltz and
more.
You’ll find rhythm feels like bouncy 4/4 Swing dance feel, fast 3/4, medium even 8ths Cuban-Latin, funky Boogaloo ,
up-tempo Jive swing, Boogie piano, cut-time Samba, slow 3/4, even 8ths Country etc. – with style names like; ASTAIRE1,
CHAGUIRO, ECST_GRV, FOXTROT1, SAMBA7, GUITCHA, JIVE4, LINDY1, MAMBO7, PASODOB2, WLZVIENA,
SAMBAGIT, QWIKSTEP, RUMBABOL, SAMBAFST, TANGO7, TEX2STEP, WLZSOFT and more.
All of these styles have at least 5 instruments and most of them use the “instrument change in the ‘b’ section” feature.
For this feature, Styles Set #59 requires Band-in-a-Box 2006 or later. The styles will play fine on previous versions but the
“instrument change in the ‘b’ section” feature will be unavailable. In most cases the instrument changes are subtle and are used
to brighten up, or slightly change, the ‘b’ section. For example, a clean electric guitar at ‘a’ might change to a muted guitar
at ‘b.’
As a reminder, effects like reverb, chorus, and panning are not embedded in a style so these settings should be set
and saved with the tune from the main song page (Alt+F2). The demo tunes for these styles follow the same naming
convention as the styles themselves. For example, the DEMO song for ASTAIRE1.STY is ASTAIRE1.MGU.
Here is an easy way to check out these new styles and demos. Open any style in the Styles59 folder, and then use the
Jukebox to audition the demos and styles. (Tip: uncheck “Change Melody Instrument.”) Here’s another way to check out the
styles; press the [Style…] button to get to the Select Style window. In the “Only show styles disk #” drop-down list select
“#59 Ballroom Dancing,” then highlight the individual styles and press the [Load Song Demo] button. It’s a good idea to
uncheck “Auto Change Melody/Soloist patch” so that you’ll hear the correct demo melody instrument. You will also find
these styles listed under the different general musical category names like Jazz or Pop/Rock. More detailed information about
each style is available by pressing the [Memo] button of the demo tune.
At our PG Music home page, www.pgmusic.com, you’ll find lots of interesting downloads, demos, streaming videos,
magazine and customer reviews, streaming audio-visual program tutorials, and more. Review your favorite products or stop
by the Styles Wish List page, where you can request specific styles or leave feedback and suggestions - that’s how we stay in
touch with you. Or you can listen to the style demo songs for all of our Style Sets. And remember, if you would like even
more of these Ballroom Dancing styles, that’s the place to let us know. So drop in and check it out.
We hope you enjoy these “Ballroom Dancing” styles. Have fun.
