How to transfer electricity bill in your name without agent or bribe

Step 1
Get your NOC from the builder. It should look something like this: Note * : If youve bought your apartment from a previous owner, then you need the builder NOC as well as NOC from the previous owner .

Step 2
Get a copy of your sale deed. This would have to be submitted along with your application. There are 2 options: Option 1 Go to your bank from where you took the loan and ask them for a attested copy of your sale deed. Or take a photocopy of your sale deed and get it notarized by the notary, this can be done from the Mahadevpura Registrar office where we all went for the registry. Option 2 If by chance while getting your registry done, you have asked for a copy attested by the registrar then you can just take a photo copy of this along with the original attested copy. In the BESCOM office after seeing your attested copy theyll accept the photocopy. This was the case with me .

Step 3
Getting the forms -> Indemnity Bond & Power supply agreement. These you would be able to get from the KEB office in K R Puram. As soon as you enter the premises, there would be guy sitting with a small table and stool. You can ask for the above 2 forms and hell charge you Rs. 335/- . Indemnity bond is frisked with Rs 100/- and Power supply form with Rs 200/-. The guy promptly returned me back change of Rs. 5 (actually insisted me too take it ). To Reach KEB Office: From Grandeur move towards Old Madras Road and then take a U turn at Reebok to get onto the Hanging Bridge (Sudhir Weighbridge) KR Puram. Go to the 2nd Floor and get the main form from the officer sitting right in front when you enter the office. Also you need to carry the following information with you : 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Latest Electricity bill Electric meter current reading. Make of the meter (Generally Landis) Serial No. of the meter (8 digit no written on front of the meter) Capacity of the meter (5 20A)

Also go to the stationary shop just across the road from the office and buy a cheap office file (Rs 5/-) to organize all papers. Arrange the papers as below in the file : 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) Electricity bill (current /latest) Main Form Indemnity Bond Power supply agreement Sale Deed NOC

Fill the Main form as shown: If you jointly own the house you can mention both yours wife and your name in the form.

On the reverse do not fill any details but just keep the details with you. Go to the 1 floor to the office of Jr. Eng with the file and ask him to fill the form and sign it and tell him you have all the details needed.

Step 5
Youre done now. Deposit fee of Rs 100/- at the cash counter for name transfer. Hell give you a receipt. Then take the file + reciept back to the officer you collected your main form and youre done. The name would get transferred in 3 days. You can visit the same officer after 3 days and hell change the name and address right in front of you on his computer so you can rule out any mistakes.

Things to keep in mind : 1) 2) 3) 4) The timings of the office, do not go during lunch hour (avoid 12 - 2 pm if you can). If youve a friend who speaks Kannada or if you can then itll be much easier. All the people in the BESCOM office are helpful. Take change with you.
