Sex Education

What is sex education?

Sex education is broad term used to describe education about human sexual anatomy, sexual reproduction, sexual intercourse, reproductive health, emotional relations, reproductive rights and responsibilities, abstinence, contraception, and other aspects of human sexual behavior. According to Evelina Z. Almedejar sex education in the United States and other European countries as well as in some Asian countries does not meet any opposition from the government of any sector of society. This is because it is considered necessary in controlling overpopulation as well as preventing the spread of sexual disease. In the Philippines, however, sex education in elementary and high school levels has been scrapped by the government because it has met opposition from the Catholic church s stand in its to pro-life campaign. The church frowns at the artificial birth control methods which the government promotes, such as the use of pills, IUD, condom and many others. The only method allowed by the church is the natural method and abstinence. The church teaches that the human sexuality is a gift from God, a part of his creation that he saw as being very good when he created man and women in his image and likeness. And like him, man is called to love and to self-giving in the unity of body spirit. And seen in the very mystery of creation, sexuality is not only the source of fruitfulness and procreation but includes the capacity of expressing love. From this context, the church teaches that the home should be the first school of sexuality where the parents are the teachers of the children. Through the sacrament of matrimony, the parents are given the grace to carry out the mission of teaching the children that man is called to live in truth and love and everyone finds fulfillment through the sincere gift of self. Parents should be the perfect models for their children though which they can win their children s confidence and thus talk openly about sensitive issue like human sexuality especially its sanctity. They must teach them good values such as self-respect for others and love. In this respect, the church is correct in its teachings. But it cannot be denied that many of Filipino parents are not true to their faith and many of them are negligent in educating their children of the right values. Does this mean that the school has the right to usurp parent s rights to educate their children about human sexuality? Can it be said that school teachers are better qualified to teach about sex? The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) still opposed the DepED s proposed program to introduce the

artificial birth control methods to the students. Instead of teaching the young people to respect sex, the church argues that it right led them to abuse sex because they will not think about unwanted pregnancies anymore.

Importance of sex education for teens

y Youngster usually derive information on sex and related subjects from sources like friends, books, the media comprising advertising, television, magazines and the Internet. The problem is that these sources may or may not really provide them correct and accurate information. As such, sex education will help in authentic info and in the process also correct any misinformation that they may have apart from adding to their already existing knowledge. Sex education imparted through schools can prove to be a significant and effective method of bettering the youngster s sex-related knowledge, attitude and behavior. Sex education in school is important because many parents are shy about talking/teaching their children on this subject. Educating children on sex related issues also requires one to know how to breach the subject, what information to impart and what to hold back. All these can be carefully handled by a trained sex educator. It is a fact that more teen s days are engaging into premarital sex. This further underscores the need for sex education to students. This will help them make better informed decisions about their personal sexual activities. Many argue that sex education also helps lessen risk behaviors in teenagers like engaging in unprotected sex which result in unwanted pregnancies and STDs.

Conclusion:
In my point of view sex education much more important to teach in secondary school than grade-school because we cannot deny the fact that at the early age of 15 the teens are starting to engage in premarital sex without even knowing on how to handle their responsibility. In addition I disagree the proposal of DepEd about teaching the gradestudent about sex education because it gives curiosity to their mind. Add up to that, implementing sex education could actually send the wrong signals to the children about the sensitive topics involving their sexuality.

DepEd: No Assignment

What is homework?
Homework is defined as tasks assigned to students by school teachers that are intended to be carried out during nonschool hours. This definition excludes in school guided study (although homework is often worked on during school), home study courses, and extracurricular activities such as sports teams and clubs.

Purpose
The most common purpose of homework is to have students practice material already presented in class so as to reinforce learning and facilitate mastery of specific skills. Preparation assignments introduce the material that will be presented in future lessons. These assignments aim to help students obtain the maximum benefit when the new material is covered in class. Extension homework involves the transfer of previously learned skills to new situations. For example, students might learn in class about factors that lead the French Revolution and then be asked as homework to apply them to the American Revolution. Finally, integration homework requires the student to apply separately learned skills to produce a single product, such as book reports, science projects, or creative writing.

DEPED MEMO NO. 392: NO ASSIGNMENT ON WEEKENDS

Department of education issued memorandum No. 392 which is ordera teachers not to give homework s on Fridays for the students to have quality time with their families on weekends. DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro justified the said memorandum as it will allow pupils to enjoy their weekends by playing with their friends and have bonding moments with their parents and other members of the family.

Is it okay that no assignment during weekend?

No homework? Those the DepEd really think about it helpful having no assignment? Where those this speculation come from? An idea being made to think earnestly or not? We are not questioning the idea of new DepEd secretary but think of it if could help a lot of pupils. They must not suppose to concentrate on what those it take for a child what need to do during week end. What they must need to concentrate on is on how to those child will learn during weekend? study habit is already lost that is why we have this very low performer child in school and then teachers are being blamed that they are not teaching well. In behalf of teachers in public, they are very eager to teach these children but

the mere fact is educational equipment like books or reference are not available, well if it is available it is already obsolete. DepEd secretary must do something on how to improve the study habit of this children do not focus in not giving assignment during week end. It will not help you are making and developing students with poor study habit we need to develop a new program that will fit the mind set of this new generation. Let us use these technologies; there is lots of it technologies that will be the source of information not destruction to our children s future.

The Positive and Negative Effects of Homework

The most direct positive effect of homework is that it can improve retention and understanding. More indirectly, homework can improve students study skills and attitudes toward school, and teach students that learning can take place anywhere, not just in school buildings. The non-academic benefits of homework include fostering independence and responsibility. Finally, homework can involve parents in the school process, enhancing their appreciation of education, and allowing them to express positive attitudes toward the value of school success. Conversely, educators and parents worry that students will grow bored if they are required to spend too much time on academic material. Homework can deny access to leisure time and community activities that also teach important life skills. Parent involvement in homework can turn into parent inference. For example, parents can confuse children if the instructional techniques they use differ from those used by teachers. Homework can actually lead to the acquisition of undesirable character traits if it promotes cheating, either through the copying of assignments or help with homework that goes beyond tutoring. Finally, homework could accentuate existing social inequities. Children from disadvantaged homes may have more difficulty completing assignments than their middle-class counterparts.

Conclusion:
I conclude that having assignment during weekend is really important as a student because it give us more knowledge to learn about something all you have to do is time management for you to relax for the rest time. Having no assignment during weekend is such a difficult thing for the student because they might be hard to understand the lesson during in their class hours.

The President Elite Force

What is Elite Force?

Special Forces are versatile and agile military assets capable of providing discreet reconnaissance, surveillance and capacity building to other states security forces. They are suited to operating against informally structured, irregular and asymmetric forces and capable of operating independently, or in direct support of either conventional military forces or other government departmental requirements. They are high value assets, commanded at the strategic levels that deliver effects disproportionately to their size.

Because of the tragedy last August 23 the government will train an elite national security force capable of responding to any eventuality such as the unfortunate hostagetaking incident at the Quirino Grandstand last August 23. In a panel interview by television news anchors Mel Tiangco (GMA7), Ted Failon (ABS-CBN) and Paolo Bediones (TV5) at the Kalayaan Hall of Malacanang Thursday, the President said the creation of the elite unit will beef up the capability of the police and military units in responding to crisis situations. With tourism being one of the growth drivers of the economy, the President found it odd that not even a tourist police was stationed during the hostage taking incident last month. The President said the training and maintenance of the elite force will be patterned after the Special Air Service (SAS), a Special Forces regiment of the British Army that has served as a model for the elite forces of other countries. He said the 200 to 400 man elite force will be a composite unit from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP). We will copy to a degree the formation of that national unit while the PNP and the AFP are fully integrated. They will be somewhere between 200 and 400 capable of responding anywhere in the country, given any threat be it air, sea or land, the President said. The government, according to the Chief Executive, has already organized three units both from the AFP and PNP for a demonstration Thursday and Friday to assess their capabilities. (PNA).

Philippine President Benigno Aquino said he will form an elite force based on Britain s SAS to handle future hostage incidents, after a bungled rescue left eight Hong Kong tourists dead. He said he decided to create the force after seeing local police commandos take almost an hour to assault a tourist bus hijacked by a sacked policeman on August 23. Eight Hong Kong residents and the gunman died in the botched rescue attempt. The training and maintenance of these elite forces is expensive. England, for all wealth, has only 200 people in their SAS, who are trained to that level, Aquino said in a live television interview. We will copy to a degree the formation of that national unit, he added. Britain s Special Air Service has been called one of the world s toughest antiterrorist units and has provided advice to other governments on handling hostage rescue situations.

Cause and Effect

Because of the hostage crisis here in the Philippines people in other countries or the tourist will no longer stay here in our country for a vacation because they think of what will happen to them, as what they have seen the incident last August 23. As effect in our country and society those Filipinos who worked in Hong Kong will discriminate and criticize by the Chinese because of what they saw in television during the Hostage taking in the Philippines, the OFW in Hong Kong will be jobless because they thought that Filipinos are the same and aside from it we might be lose of investors.

CONCLUSION:
I agree the decision of the President to form elite force based on Britain s SAS so that our country will be protected during the some brutal incidents. And because of that our country would be lessen the criminal case.
